WATCH: Kai Trump Makes LPGA Debut Amid Struggles in The Annika Tournament | AD1B

US President Donald Trump’s eldest granddaughter, Kai Trump, made her LPGA debut at Pelican Golf Club in Bair, Florida, but struggled against elite competition, finishing with the day’s highest score. The 18-year-old amateur playing in the Anakah on a sponsor’s exemption opened with a 13 overpower 83, placing her at the bottom of a field stacked with some of the world’s top golfers. The event marked by far the biggest stage of her young career. Kai Trump began her round on the back nine paired with Japan’s Hinako Shibuno and Germany’s Olivia Cowan. She received applause at the par 410th as she was introduced and again after finding the fairway with her opening T-shot, but early momentum quickly slipped away. She bogeied her first four holes before finally settling for a par at the par 514th. Across the remainder of her opening nine, Trump mixed two bogeies with two pars, including an impressive up and down save at the 16th, reaching the turn with a 6 over 41. Her struggles continued on the front side where she immediately dropped a shot, then carded two double bogeies over the next four holes. She closed her round with two additional bogeies across her final three holes. Despite Thursday’s difficult performance, Trump has built a strong presence in Florida’s top junior golf circuit. Her participation came just one day after the University of Miami announced she had committed to join its golf program for the 2026 to 27 season. At the top of the leaderboard, South Korea’s Ryu Hyan finished the first round with a six underpass 64, giving her a oneshot lead over Australia’s Grace Kim. American Jennifer Kupcho sat two strokes back while world number six Charlie Hull was part of a group of four players another shot behind.
