Not every unforgettable moment in a golfer’s journey happens on the fairway. Some of the most meaningful ones unfold away from the greens through time spent with family, friends, and community. For many players, giving back has become the truest measure of success. Golf legends like Gary Player and his late wife Viven set that example decades ago with the Gary and Vivian Player Foundation, which has supported underprivileged children through education, housing, and healthcare. Likewise, Jordan Speif and his wife Annie have championed charitable work through the Jordan Speed Family Foundation, focusing on four causes close to their hearts. Now, another beloved figure on the PGA tour, Joel Domenin, has joined that noble tradition by launching his own charitable initiative, the Domen Family Foundation. Domen shared the news in heartwarming fashion, reposting the foundation’s first ever Instagram announcement to his story. Something close to Lona and I, and excited to kick it off after a few years of growth and giving to what matters, he wrote. The foundation’s debut post featured a touching family portrait. Joel, his wife Lona, their son Rigs, and their dog with a caption, “On behalf of Joel and Lona, Rigs, too, of course. We are excited to start this journey of helping families and kids across the country achieve things they didn’t think they could. Thanks for joining us along the way, and we can’t wait to share what goes on behind the scenes at the DFF.” The announcement also revealed that Joel and Lona are expecting their second child, making this new chapter even more special. According to Domin’s official website, the Domen Family Foundation will focus on two main pillars: supporting cancer patients and their families and empowering smalltown golf communities. These causes hold deep personal meaning for the 37year-old golfer. Back in 2011, Domin was diagnosed with testicular cancer, a moment that changed his life forever. He caught the disease early, partly because his brother Zach had gone through the same diagnosis just two years earlier. Writing for the players tribune, Domin reflected, “I knew right away what it was. My brother Zach was diagnosed with testicular cancer two years earlier, and I remember he had a similar experience. Tragically, cancer struck his family again when his mother was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, a battle she eventually lost. Those painful experiences shaped Domin’s perspective and inspired his mission to help families facing similar challenges. While Domin is now channeling his heart into philanthropy, his professional journey in golf hasn’t been without setbacks. The 2025 PGA Tour season was a mixed bag. Despite competing in 26 events, he came up just short of a win. His best finish being AT2 at the Corales Pontana Championship, highlighted by stunning rounds of 62 and 66. He also earned top 10 finishes at both the Mexico Open and Farmers Insurance Open. But inconsistency plagued his year. Domin missed the cut 15 times, including a brutal six event stretch between the Zurich Classic in April and the Rocket Mortgage Classic in June. Those struggles forced him to make one of the toughest calls of his career to in July 2025. Domin parted ways with his longtime caddy Gino Bonnelly, ending a partnership that spanned more than a decade from the corn ferry tour to PGA tour success. While the two remain close friends, Domin said the decision was about accountability and self-improvement. I needed to take ownership of what I was doing. He explained it was my mentality. So, a way for me to do it was as simple as just playing golf on my own a little bit. After the split, Diamond’s longtime swing coach, Rob Relle, temporarily took over catty duties. Michelle, who has coached Domin for nearly nine years, stepped in as the golfer focused on regaining his rhythm and securing his PGA tour car during one of the most competitive seasons in recent memory. Meanwhile, Gino Bonnelly has since joined Isaiah Celinda’s Bag and continues to be a fan favorite thanks to his appearances on Netflix’s Full Swing. Despite the ups and downs of professional golf, Joel Diamond’s story is one of resilience, gratitude, and giving. The launch of the Domin Family Foundation marks a new chapter for him and his family. One where his legacy extends far beyond scorecards and leaderboards.
