Japanese rising star Ryo Hisatsune stayed cool in the Bermuda winds with a 4-under round to start strong at the Butterfield Bermuda Championship. Known for his precision ball-striking, Hisatsune explains how he handled the gusts, nerves, and early tee time at Port Royal.

💬 “Especially today was really windy — I’m happy to make 4-under.”
💬 “I like to control the ball more, so today was really good for that.”
💬 “Actually I hit it good on 18, but it went 50 yards right — I got lucky.”
💬 “To be honest, horrible putting this year… but I want to win, so I keep grinding.”

Hisatsune — currently around No. 92 in the FedExCup Fall standings — admits he’s feeling the pressure but remains positive and determined to finish the season strong.

Okay, let’s do the same in English. Yeah, we are some like talking some Japanese. Easy, easy questions. Um, what did you do well today? Uh, yeah, especially today very windy day. So, like more focus, you know, some find the fairway and hit and shot like really well. So, yeah, I’m happy to making 400. Yeah. Are you comfortable playing in windy conditions? Yeah, especially like kind of I like some like kind of more control. So especially is it today going to is a really controlled some find the ball so get a little lucky. You you’ve played well here before um some good rounds uh previous year. Um what what do you like about the golf course? I had a yeah last year experience some like kind of the windy go like more stay low then like kind of more keep it compact some swing. So yeah good help in the last year in my experience. So yeah, it’s three more round. Yeah. Given your position in the FedEx Cup fall, how important is this weekend next week for you? Yeah, unfortunately like a 90 92 something like that. It’s close to the some standings. So yeah, bit nervous in is yeah bit actually a little bit nervous but uh more just playing the goal so like kind of keep keeping keeping golf. So yeah. Do you feel like you handle the nerves pretty well? Yeah. Yeah, a little bit. But uh it’s okay. Like I just Yeah. tough to survive in on tour. So like I do my best. Yeah. Do you have anything on on 18 there? I know your T-shot kind of went a little bit far right. What did you have to do to kind of settle back in and and get in for a par? Oh yeah, actually I didn’t hit it really is a good hit, but uh B was I didn’t saw that. So like an end of like know 50 alpha, right? So it’s it’s actually really surprised but it’s really good angle then 85 yards but it’s narrow green like this angle it’s very scary but I just get lucky then getting the slope then close to the body like it’s at 10 feet some like making body part but little miss it but uh yeah yeah it’s a very lucky sound like very first player off this morning do you enjoy being in that spot kind of the first player to hit the first T- shot. Oh yeah. Yeah. It’s stay in some the highlight. It’s windy in still 7 a.m. still windy. So yeah, very enjoyable. Yeah. Especially in the Tuesday in the practice land like it’s more windy. So like Yeah. When you’re off at 7:00 and first what what time do you get up to start your preparation? Uh but uh like kind of 550 something like an hour. It’s 10 minutes before but uh is still is windy then getting bit cold so yeah a bit tougher. Yeah. What what would you say is the best part of your game? Uh I just like ball striking some like kind of find a fairway some like iron shot. So yeah I to be honest like I horrible putting right in in this year. So like going to make did have some win. So yeah. Aside from the horrible putting this year. Yeah. Have you enjoyed the experience this year playing on the PG tour? Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Sound like kind of Yeah. Getting well especially I had a four top 10 this year like a really good season but uh unfortunately like in a middle of season like kind of it just met a cut then didn’t get some like a top 10 or like go to some win but uh yeah I I keeping keep head up then like kind of more I want to hang up like a more I want to win so like yeah more stay grind. Yep.
