Don shouldn't have said all of what he said. I agree with his thoughts on people not wearing poppies, but he was definitely targeting immigrants which was wrong. But the way Ron has handled it has been beyond pathetic. He should have walked with Don, to stand up for his friend. They'd probably have the #1 podcast right now, if he had. All Ron has done since is ruin his own legacy and make most people not watch the HNIC intermissions anymore.

Ron had to put out so many fires for Don. Don’s wonderful wife did that, but sadly died too young. Don was successful because he had confidence in himself about how hockey should be played. What he lacked was understanding of other points of view on how to live a life.

Never much of a fan of Don Cherry but Ron McLean really did kick him under the bus. I remember many many years ago when the network was thinking of firing Maclean Cherry went to bat for him threatening to quit if he was fired.
The issue with Ron's take that I have is why the hell would Don think he would get fired for saying that new Canadians should embrace Canadian history and recognize the sacrifice of our Canadian veterans and wear a poppy?
Gotta hand it to Don. He’s not in the best of health and you can tell it still really bothers him how his career on TV ended, but he’s still willing to sit down and give detailed answers about this situation to some guy with a camera.
