Michael Kim roared to the top of the leaderboard on Day 1 of the DP World Tour Championship, outplaying everyone from Rory McIlroy to Tommy Fleetwood. And after, the 32-year-old wasn’t even sure if he’d ever been in this position.

Which is exactly why he’s No. 1 in the hearts of many on Golf Twitter.

Kim opened with an eight-under-par 64 in Dubai on Thursday to grab the early lead at Jumeirah Golf Estates’ Earth Course. Which caused him to pose the following question after:

“I don’t remember the last time I had the solo first round lead… honestly might be my first as a pro?” We’re guessing it is then, because that seems like the sort of thing you’d remember!

But it’s certainly not the first time the Golf Twitter darling has finished a round in first place as a pro. The guy just just won the DP World Tour’s French Open—and took on a giant bottle of Champagne—in September. And he won the PGA Tour’s John Deere Classic in 2018.

So, it certainly isn’t a shock to see Kim’s name up there—especially during the best year of his pro career. And while we wait to see how this week plays out, there’s one thing we can count on: Kim’s candid takes on whatever happens.
