[Applause] welcome back to the channel guys in today’s video we’re going to be talking hybrid clubs why hybrid clubs well we’re moving into the winter in the UK and one of the biggest bag changes I make is I always take my driving iron out and replace it with a hybrid now I’ve been working for masterfit at Sam Smith and I’ve I’ve learned a lot about hybrid clubs and how they can be utilized and one of the biggest points of today’s video is to make you aware of something that I didn’t know until working with Sam Smith so first things first we’re going to start off by hitting a couple of shots with this 18 Dee driving iron as I would call it to see what sort of carry distance we’re getting what potential distance we could get this winter and then we’re going to compare it with a low spinning hybrid and then more of a oversized forgiving hybrid because I think there’s an important message here if you’re buying a hybrid just for the tea and this message it’s more for the mid to handicappers who maybe wouldn’t have that confidence to buy lower spinning hybrid right so these are a couple of shots just on up on screen I’ve it earlier when I warming up let’s just get a couple of fre IRS out there cuz it’s not going to they’re not going to roll very far when they land and that’s a really good strike I’m not going to hit a better strike than that and carry distance just at 200 yards I mean usually I’d expect this in in dry conditions to be sort of chasing two 23 up to 240 yards and that’s why I like to keep this in the bag through the summer there’s absolutely no chance that I can do that in Winter conditions and that’s why it comes out of the bag again a lovely strike what we got again it’s going to be around about 200 pretty much an identical shot right so next up I’ve got the 18° oversized Del 2 Hybrid Club which I think most mid handicappers and high handicappers would sort of you know fit the self into self fit theel into that club because they’re thinking of all round forgiveness now let’s have a look how far this carries in particular because it’s going to be a little bit more High spinning than a obviously a lower spinning hybrid so it’s a very high ball flight which is great you know obviously it helps you get the ball up in the air it’s nice and easy to launch but carry distance is only 89 yards it’s actually less than my free in so I could think that or you might think you’re doing yourself a favor obviously switching a a longer iron into a hybrid for winter conditions but in fact you might actually lose Distance by doing so and that’s just because it’s launching you know know so high and you getting the ball in the air almost too much lovely strike again and that time a little bit more 206 so there is that potential but am I really gaining a great deal you know from a from a free would it be worth me switching me free out for an extra probably five yards there I wouldn’t say so just H another one that’s another good strike just looks a very high trajectory so again 203 so yeah we could s we’ve increased that carry by three yards which obviously would help but could I justify switching mine out for three yards probably not now the main message of today is to just sort of bring awareness that even as a mid handicapper if you’re buying a hybrid just for the tea do not be scared of testing a tow Hybrid Club that’s a little bit lower spinning to get you a bit more of a stronger ball flat obviously this is going to be off a te so I’m sure you’ll be able to obviously strike it and and and get it in the air because you’re not playing it off the deck but it just means that you’ll get that more penetrating flight that should give you a little bit more carry and you know the characteristics you’d probably get more more with a driver than a you know obviously a hybrid you know really good swing and straight away you know that’s when now I could justify you know putting a harbor in the bag because we’ve gained probably 12 yards on a a driving iron so 23 yards extra distance off the te and that’s just by getting a hybrid that creates a little bit better launch when using it as a you know obviously a club for off the tea so I think it’s already quite clear to see and especially that last one at 225 carrier we’ve got three clubs that are all 18 degree loss but all performing very differently due to the profile of the club and I think you know for you mid to handicap golfers if you’re looking for a Hybrid Club specifically off the te I don’t think there’s any danger in you’re trying a tour or a lower spinning Hybrid Club because you’re not you don’t need that forgiveness you don’t need that extra help launching it up in the air because you potentially going to be using a t but what you do need is a guarantee that you know it’s going to be it’s going to be an improvement on the carry you would get with an iron you know so for me personally you know I’m going to be putting a a smaller profile hybri in the club now and I think you know obviously I know a lot of you guys might be thinking of going that down that route into the winter I think it could be really useful because I think sometimes when we’re off forward teas you can bring a lot of trouble into play with driver you know and obviously you want to be landing it in them zones you would normally be landing it in with your driver off the you know tease a further back to to avoid a lot of them bunkers and you know bring a lot of trouble into play so um if you good on that route this winter don’t write off a lower spinning hyri club and test it to see if you get better Performance Off The Tea thanks for watching guys if it’s the first time tuning to the channel make sure you hit the Subscribe button and we’ll 1. I love my hybrids but I tend to hit them with a shallow sweeping swing that sometimes hits just behind the ball. The shape of the club means it glides across the ground and makes a great contact …. in the summer. Now the ground is wet, the club digs in slightly and the contact isn’t as good if I do hit just behind the ball. Consequently my hybrids aren’t as forgiving on muddy ground as they are in the summer. I still think I’m far better than I would be with a long iron however!

  2. Hi Gary. I watched James’ video on the Adams hybrid and I ordered a used 1 on Black Friday for less than $25.00. We don’t have Golf Clubs for Cash in the US. 2nd Swing Golf

  3. Its not just distance for me James, its consistency. I find hybrids are easier to hit and more forgiving than the driving iron. I will look at a lower spinning 2 hybrid to replace my 5 wood now. Thanks.

  4. At that loft, 5 wood is the way to go for me. Amazing tee club and easy off the fairways with some additional forgiveness.

  5. Sim2 4 hydrid is in the bag all year round, can play a handful off different shots with this club, when in doubt is my go to club 🏌️

  6. It's only this season i have started using a driver haha. Until then it was only Hybrid off the tee. Still tempted to go back to it as im so much more accurate and only 20 yards shorter ( if the driver stays in play)

  7. Interesting video, actually low lofted hybrids are a fantastic option off the tee all year round, I play the Cobra Darkspeed 17 degree hybrid and its a missile launcher which produces very fast ball speeds due to its super low spin and low-mid launch plus its much more forgiving compared to driving irons and long irons.

  8. In a Gary Player Clinic YT video he told his class that unless your a professional golfer put your 5i away as you are not good enough to hit it. Go get hybrids and enjoy your golf.

  9. The Cobra King Tec hybrids are excellent with their adjustability. I use the 19 and loft up and down as needed.

  10. I have 2 Cobra F6 hybrids that are fairly compact and lower spinning, and just took delivery of a Adams Pro Mini hybrid. I would say that it's more Tiny than Mini.
