All right, welcome back Sheamus Power, a place uh where you’ve had success in 22 winning the Butterfield Bermuda Championship. Um what’s it like when you come back to this tournament? Uh it’s always amazing for me, you know, ever since the first time I came here in 2019. I always just I really like being on the island. Made a lot of good friends here and then obviously having the win in 22. So really nothing but positive and kind of good memories. So it’s great to be back and I’d take any excuse really to come to Bermuda. I think anyone would love coming back to a place where I’ve made the most birdies in tournament history. 28 when you won. What What was your secret uh that week to to making that many? You know, we grew up like it’s obviously it’s going to be windy for the most part and we grew up playing and putting in wind. And I think that’s that’s the key. You know, putting in wind is not the same. It changes things. You know, you’ve left or right putt, but right to left wind, and it can be hard to trust it, but obviously having the advantage of growing up playing that sort of like links golf and having to play for the wind and putting I think helps here. Um, and yeah, I think because of that, it has always been as comfortable as you can be, I guess, when it when the wind really gets going and I think that’s helped over the years here. You played the proam this morning, nine holes. Uh, how’s the course look and what do you have you noticed any changes or uh didn’t notice any changes, but of course in great condition. Um, obviously with the wind or wind and storms yesterday, I wasn’t sure, but I mean the bunkers were were fantastic, which kind of was a surprise after the storms have hit here recently. And um, greens are kind of I feel like they’re always kind of the same. You can’t really cut them down too much. are going to be slightly slower just with the wet with the wind and then the Larissa of course in great conditions. So I think it’s going to be a good test. Obviously the forecast is for plenty of wind really I think almost every day. So it’s you know it’s going to be a lot about managing your mind and managing your game as best you can in in pretty tough conditions. Number 16 is the signature hole here. Par three. It’s spectacular. But you’ve got a you’ve got a unique record there. The year that you won you made three birdies in the four rounds and nobody’s ever done that before. what what’s you know can you describe that hole to people and just the difficulty of it? It’s tough. You know obviously we play at different distances and they move it up and down but for the most part it feels like it plays in off the left and it’s just you have to aim almost into the ocean and trust that it’s going to come back which is very very tough. It’s it’s easier done today than it is obviously on Sunday. Um and I think that that’s the big thing. It’s just trust and that’s always going to be the case in the wind because you’re going to be aiming a long ways away from certain pins here and the wind’s going to be moving it. So just letting it go and trusting that you’ve picked the right target and and the wind is going to move it back I think is is the hardest part definitely on 16 because I mean I hit today and I’m aiming at the left edge of the left bunker and it’s not it’s not as windy today but today it was like 230 something yards so it’s I a feeling we probably won’t play it that long during the tournament but that’s kind of what you get back there and you know it’s coming and 15 I think is 15 is just as tough in a different way but yeah 16 is it’s just intimidating and just trusting yourself to hit it out left and trusted the conditions are going to bring it back. I actually lipped out on the on Sunday too for the fourth two. I missed the one coming back, but I did lip out. How long was that part when you lifted it out? Oh, the first one was from like 60 ft and it was blowing really hard. So, it was kind of a funny one. But were you thinking about at the time when you I think on this I think on the Saturday was the first time because I have friends here and they’re like like you made two twos and you know you’re you’re not really thinking about it because you’re trying to get really trying to get through 16 rather than if you pick one up there it’s a bonus. you’re thinking about maybe getting one in 17, but it’s a huge bonus because it’s going to play over par and to be able to pick up three was massive. I I didn’t realize I was the only one to have done that. So, you know, hopefully do something similar this year and that’s kind of usually what it takes something special. How would you assess your form coming into this week? How have you been playing lately the last few weeks? Last week was much better. It’s been okay. like I struggled with like some injury issues early in the season into the summer and it kind of confidence was down a little bit and stuff and you’re kind of struggling to make cuts and Annie will tell you then that it’s just hard it’s harder to play good golf when you’re kind of playing feeling like that but that it’s it’s been much better in the fall. I really feel like body’s healthy again and finding like my my swing and my comfort level again and then last week I know everyone obviously a lot of birdies but for me seeing some putts going in last week was was very encouraging. Um, it’s always been a strength of my game and really like all year and back end of last year it wasn’t which was kind of unusual for me but I finally found something in it and I feel like it’s uh it’s something that could be good here for the last couple weeks. Do you speaking two weeks to go here in RSM next week given your situation you’re 133rd in the FedEx Cup standings in the fall. Um you do you feel that confidence and feel comfortable in the situation that you’re in given the circumstances? I’m obviously not not where I want to be obviously, but I do have confidence. Yes. Like there are two courses I’m fortunate like I’ve played well here and I’ve played well in Georgia multiple times. So I do have that kind of up my sleeve I feel like. But also just like just seeing my game kind of going in the right direction I think is the most encouraging thing. That’s I think that’s the part where really gets you down on the golf course where you just you’re just struggling and you’re hitting shots. You don’t know where what where they’re coming from. you’re not making putts and you’re just you’re not really going anywhere where I feel like the last couple of weeks with practice and then going into last week I feel like I finally have like my direction back. So like that’s very encouraging and you know you still have to go do it. Um and this is unusual season obviously with the changes too where obviously top 100 but there’s a cut off at 10 as well and a cut off at 25 and obviously the cut off at 50. So, it’s it’s unusual and I I’m not really one to look too much at it, but I do know I mean I got to play I got to pick pick up a big chunk of points, but the weird thing with golf is if I win with the next two weeks, it’s going to be a great season. So, that that’s kind of what I I try focus on. And obviously, you’d love to win Sony or or Maui at the start of the year and just eat breeze through the season. But, you know, it didn’t go that way. But, you know, great stories can be can be uh can come from kind of tough situations. So, that’s going to be what what I’m going to be focus on next two weeks. 100% correct. What um what do you love about Bermuda when you come here? Is there something that you try and do every year or something that you learn each year about Bermuda? Uh it’s more probably for me it’s more so the people to be honest. Even last night we had like a very fun kind of poker and kind of pizza night with a big group of friends just there’s a lot of obviously Irish and and British people here and I got to know them. The first year I played in the proam, Michael V and he like he works with Butterfield. So it’s it’s kind of a cool connection and uh he was in the proam and we became friends and that’s you know 2019 and I I’ve renewed my like US work visa here a couple times which kind of extra couple trips and you know I’ve spent a lot of time here and just got to meet people and they’re really really nice people and you know like Simon I’ve always really enjoyed here and and Casey loves coming here now too but I think it’s just more so the people the the place is beautiful you know some of the beaches and stuff are amazing obviously probably won’t get to enjoy this week but just the people and the atmosphere down there in town is is fantastic and you know, it’s one of the best commutes. Obviously, we don’t have the boat anymore, but even in the bus, like you’re getting a great view of some beautiful sites along the way, and it’s just the whole vibe. It’s small. You don’t have too far to go. And it’s just I I just like the feeling here. It’s it’s it’s a very pretty place. The buildings are I mean, the buildings are beautiful. All the white roofs and all that kind of stuff. And I think it’s just uh it’s a very unique place. I’ve never been anywhere like it. And I just uh but I mean, it’s like anywhere. I think it’s the people that make it really. I can’t let you go before um talking about the rugby game that you and I have discussed. Uh did you end up going to the game? I actually didn’t. I had to get like a melanoma thing taken off my forehead and kind of ruined my um my off week there. So, but I didn’t but I I watched it obviously. It was a pity. Um you know, we looked good for a while. still complained about that that sending off in the early on but you know it was it was a good game and I suppose that’s all you would for those autumn internationals and we’re obviously get Ireland a little bit of a transition period but you know anytime you get a chance to to play the All backs in Soldier Field you’re going to going to give it your best and it was kind of cool to watch it. Do you have any interest in watching the All Blacks play England on Saturday? I will. Yeah, I I know what I know Liverp Ireland Australia’s at 4. I don’t know what time is the England’s at 11. Hopefully I’ll be hopefully I won’t be able to watch it, but definitely definitely catch your eye afterwards. True. Thanks, Sheamus. Appreciate it. Thank you very much. Cheers. Thanks for this.
