Andy Murray has made it clear that his wife Kim Spears does not mind him playing golf regularly. The 38-year-old has taken up the sport since retiring from tennis and has already reached a high level which has seen him compete at a number of big tournaments.
His latest outing came at the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship Pro-Am – back in October – where the two-time Wimbledon champion put in an impressive performance to reflect his handicap of two.
Murray was paired with professional golfer Eddie Pepperell in his native Scotland and was selected to be in the same group as Tyrell Hatton.
It was stated that Murray even out-drove one of Team Europe’s Ryder Cup heroes on some holes with the former sending a clear message to Instagram after the tournament.
“What a great week up in Scotland for my first @dunhilllinks. Eddie Pepperell was not only a brilliant golfer, he was a brilliant partner to play with so huge thanks to Eddie for putting up with me and my rubbish golf.
“Cheers to everyone who came out to support a great event and braved the brutal weather! And finally I want to say a huge thanks to everyone on social media for not sharing my mishap in the bunker the other day. The empathy and sympathy you all showed me was really touching. Horrible b******s!”
Having retired from his professional sport back in May 2024, Murray is spending plenty of time on the course, with the Scotsman asked on The Romesh Ranganathan Show how his wife Kim feels about that.
“I don’t think she wants me in the house all day bothering her, to be honest,” he admitted. “So, yeah, she’s fine with it, so long as I help drop-off and pick-up [the kids to and from school].
“I don’t think she massively wants to see me during the day, [at least] that’s what I think.”
Despite having shown off his golfing abilities alongside the ambition he has to compete at The Open over the next few years, Murray is open to taking up a different role in golf that would see him on the professional circuit.

“I’m considering becoming a golf caddie, hopefully for a professional golfer at some stage,” he also stated on The Romesh Ranganathan Show. “I love golf and if you love that sport, it would be a great job.
“If you are working with a top golfer and being there when they have a great moment on the course, and feeling like you can help a little bit with decisions and things like that, I think it would be a brilliant job.”
However, Murray is seemingly intent on first of all at playing at a high level. “I want to try and play in the regional qualifying [of The Open] at some stage,” he said recently.
“A couple of my friends have done it, and it would just be a fun thing to do if you got to the level where you’re able to do that, I would do it, but I certainly don’t think I would have any chance of qualifying for The Open.
“I’m fully aware of how good the players that play in those events are and how good the pros are in comparison to amateurs. Even guys that play off +2, 3 [handicap] are miles off what these guys are.”
