STEPHENVILLE, Texas – Tarleton State Men’s Golf has added Mikkel Bergum-Johansen from Norway on National Signing Day, the Texans announced Wednesday.
Bergum-Johansen, who is currently No. 8 in Norway’s U19 boys rankings, will be the first Texan in the Division I era to come from Norway.
“We’re very excited to have Mikkel join us. He will definitely help keep pushing this program in the right direction,” head coach Chance Cain said. “We will be a deeper team next year and he has proven he can play at a high level after making a run at the Boys Am in August. He’s a very good ball striker that is very consistent and also has the ability to go low.”
Bergum-Johansen has accumulated seven top 10 finishes and one tournament win as an amateur. His title came on the Srixon Tour in the third match play event of the tour in June 2025. His best round score on the international stage is a 5-under-par 67.
The Norwegian will enter his first collegiate season coming off a successful year in 2025. Bergum-Johansen finished in sixth place at the Irish Boys’ Amateur Open Championship. He also collected a top 20 finish at the Boys Amateur Championship earlier this year, finishing in 17th place.
In team competition, Bergum-Johansen has helped his country to success. He won the European Boys Team Championship in 2025 while helping his team to seventh place at the Norwegian Men’s Team Championship. Bergum-Johansen also helped his team to eighth place in the Norwegian Junior Team Championship.
The Texans ended the 2025 Fall season with their first-ever Division I team title at the FAU Invitational back in October. Tarleton State begins the spring portion of its season in the Lone Star State, competing at the Bentwater Intercollegiate in Montgomery, Texas, Feb. 9-10.
