What Makes the Datrek DG Lite III Cart Bag Different?
There’s nothing that really jumps out as groundbreaking here — but that’s not necessarily a bad thing. The 14-way top with full-length dividers is the standout feature. It keeps every club separated and protected, and the larger, rubber-lined putter well is a nice touch. The Top Lok system is another plus if you’re rolling with a Bag Boy push cart.
Datrek bags are usually pared-down versions of Bag Boy’s own models, and the DG Lite III fits that mold. It’s well-built and functional, but without the extra bells and whistles you get from higher-end models like the Revolver XP.
On the usability side, the rubber top handles make it easy to grab, lift, and reposition — a simple but underrated detail. My only gripe is the lack of medium side pockets, which limits storage for small accessories and gloves.
If I had to give it a label: a solid mid-tier option — dependable and practical, but priced like the big boys.
DG Lite 3 Looks
I tested the Green/Black/Charcoal version of the DG Lite III. Out of the box, it’s solid but unspectacular — exactly what you’d expect from a workmanlike golf bag that’s built more for function than flash.
Materials and stitching feel sturdy, and overall construction looks dependable. It’s not trying to turn heads, but it doesn’t need to. On a cart or sitting beside your clubs, it looks clean and confident.
Logos, color blocking, and overall design are restrained — practical rather than flashy. If I had to sum it up: clean and functional.
Club Storage – 14-Way Full-Length Dividers with External Putter Well
The DG Lite III gives you 14 full-length dividers, and they do their job well. Clubs slide in and out easily with no snagging or friction — exactly what you want from a bag built around clean organization.
The putter well sits right up front where it should. It’s big enough for any grip you’re running, and the rubber-lined top is a small detail that doesn’t necessarily add performance but feels solid and premium enough.
The middle rows are slightly offset, which isn’t my favorite layout. It makes club organization a bit less intuitive and not as visually tidy as perfectly aligned tops.
Still, the 14-way full-length dividers are a strong point, even if the alignment keeps it from being perfect.
Other Storage & Organization – Seven Pockets
The DG Lite III comes with seven pockets — three on the front and two on each side.
The middle front pocket doubles as an insulated cooler pocket, which is handy for keeping a drink or two cold on hot days.
Each side has one small pocket and one larger apparel pocket.
Pocket placement is good when the bag’s on a cart; everything stays accessible and nothing gets blocked.
Still, I miss having medium-sized side pockets — the kind I usually use for storing gloves.
The large bottom pocket up front is great for rangefinders, GPS units, sunscreen, or an extra pair of sunglasses, but it’s not a replacement for a good glove pocket.
Overall, storage is okay and easy to work around, but the lack of those medium glove pockets is a miss in my book.
Weight & Portability
At 4.6 lbs, the DG Lite III is plenty light — right in line with other cart bags I’ve tested, and maybe even a touch lighter. Nothing crazy, but definitely easy to handle.
It’s simple to lift in and out of the car or onto a cart. Truth is, even the heavier bags I’ve tested only weigh a couple pounds more. What really adds up is what you load into them.
Handles are well placed for quick movement, and the strap works fine for carrying from the trunk to the cart. No complaints there.
Does it live up to the name? Yep, it’s lite.
Overall: a solid performer if shaving every last ounce matters to you — but plenty of bags in this class weigh about the same, so it’s not a game-changer.
Cart Compatible – Works with All Carts
On a riding cart, the DG Lite III is stable and stays secure and straps in easily. No surprises here.
Like every other bag I’ve used or tested, it can loosen a touch over the course of a round — nothing unusual.
On a push cart, especially with the Top Lok system, it fits like a glove. That setup locks it in place perfectly, no shifting or twisting.
It’s got the strap pass-through too, so you can secure it cleanly without blocking pocket access.
Overall: normal cart fit — solid and predictable, exactly what you’d expect.
Build Quality & Durability – Quality Materials Throughout
The DG Lite III’s fit and finish are great. Zipper pulls have loops that make them easy to grab, and nothing feels loose, flimsy, or out of place. The seams, stitching, and overall structure are tidy and well done.
It’s exactly what I’ve come to expect from Datrek bags — solid and unspectacular, in a good way. Nothing fancy, just dependable workmanship.
I’d call the build mid-range to premium, but definitely closer to mid-range. Everything feels like it’s built to last a good while.
Overall: solid build quality — this bag should be around for you for a long time.
Rain Protection
Yes, the DG Lite III comes with a rain hood, and it fits fine. It opens toward the back — which always feels a little odd to me unless you’re using a push cart. In that case, it actually makes sense.
Didn’t get to test it in the rain — we’ve been in a dry spell here in Houston — but based on design and materials, I’d call it average at best. There aren’t any waterproof zippers or drainage features, and it doesn’t seem like much effort went into this part of the design.
Value
The Datrek DG Lite III retails around $189, which puts it below most comparable Bag Boy models — sometimes by a wide margin.
I haven’t tested other Datrek cart bags, but this one sits in a nice sweet spot for price versus performance.
If you’re willing to give up a bit of functionality and convenience, it’s probably a better choice than several higher-priced models I’ve tested.
The Bag Boy CB100 (at about $199) is its closest in-house competitor, but you’re not missing much by saving a few bucks with the DG Lite III.
Given its features, build quality, and overall design, I’d say it’s worth the price.
It’s best suited for golfers who like 14-way full-length dividers, want a solid, no-fuss bag, and aren’t chasing the latest gadgetry.
Overall: a fine value compared to the competition.
