Just when you thought the Los Cabos luxury scene couldn’t get any more impressive, it’s doubling down. For decades, Cabo has been the undisputed golf capital of Latin America—a “desert Disneyland for golfers,” as the legendary Jack Nicklaus (who designed the first course here in 1993) famously joked.

But for a destination that already boasts over 20 world-class courses, “good enough” is never part of the plan.

Los Cabos Golf Scene Set to Explode With New Courses From Tiger Woods and Ernie ElsLos Cabos Golf Scene Set to Explode With New Courses From Tiger Woods and Ernie Els

Here at The Cabo Sun, we’ve got the insider’s look at the startling new wave of development that is solidifying Cabo’s reign as the world’s premier golf-and-luxury getaway. The biggest names in the sport are planting their flags here, and it’s a trend that will benefit every traveler.

The “Tiger Effect” is in Full Swing 🐅

The biggest news is that Tiger Woods is tripling down on Los Cabos. Having already designed the acclaimed El Cardonal course (which just hosted the PGA Tour’s World Wide Technology Championship) and the Oasis Short Course, Tiger is now deep into designing his third masterpiece at Diamante: the Legacy Club.

This isn’t just another course; it’s a statement. The Legacy Club is set to be an “ultra-exclusive” 250-member private club, described as an “oasis in the desert” full of lush, non-native vegetation. It’s so exclusive, in fact, that a private home is being built on-site for Tiger himself.

This new course is already making waves. Developers are hoping that The Legacy Club will take over as the new host of the PGA Tour event beginning in 2027. Securing another long-term PGA Tour stop is a massive stamp of approval that beams the “Los Cabos” brand into millions of homes worldwide.

An A-List Roster of New Courses

But it’s not just the Tiger effect. A new “big three” of golf’s most sought-after architects are all in the process of opening new projects, with a projected 25 courses to be operating in Cabo by 2030.

David McLay Kidd: The visionary architect behind Bandon Dunes is opening his first-ever Cabo course, Baja Bay Club, on the East Cape in 2026. This sprawling 2,400-acre development will feature three holes that play directly on the beach sands of the Sea of Cortez.

Ernie Els: The South African golf legend is opening his design, Oleada Golf Links Los Cabos, in early 2026, located just a short distance from the Diamante complex.

This infusion of A-list talent is a clear sign that the world’s top developers see Los Cabos as the undisputed king of luxury golf.

The Insider’s Reality: Not Without Challenges

Of course, this is Cabo, and building paradise in the middle of the desert isn’t always a smooth ride. We’ve learned that these ambitious projects have faced their share of challenges.

The developers of the Tiger Woods course, for example, had to navigate a lengthy and complex approval process just to be able to legally grow Zoysia grass, which isn’t native to Mexico. Furthermore, heavy rains this fall caused a breach in one of the new lakes being built, forcing crews to re-do nearly four months’ worth of work. While the goal is to open in 2026, developers are joking that it might be “on December 31st.”

What This Means For You (Even if You Don’t Golf)

So, why should the average traveler, who may not know a 9-iron from a wedge, care about a few new golf courses?

As one developer put it, “a rising tide lifts all boats.”

This massive, multi-billion dollar investment in ultra-luxury golf is a huge vote of confidence in the destination. It brings more “eyes on the area,” attracts a high-spending clientele, and, most importantly for every single traveler, it spurs demand for more flights.

This boom in luxury infrastructure is what convinces airlines to add new, year-round, non-stop routes, ultimately making it easier and more competitive for everyone to get to paradise. The golf boom is a powerful engine that helps solidify Los Cabos as the safest, most desirable, and most accessible luxury destination in Mexico.
