One of the Town of Cutler Bay’s most popular annual events, the ‘Halloween Spooktacular,’ which took place on Oct. 24 and 25, once again drew a large crowd of participants and spectators, according to Maria Herrera Mendoza, events and programs manager. Overcast skies were not enough to deter people from attending each night’s acativities.

“We had approximately 3,000 to 4,000 attendees each day, with a combined total of about 6,000 over both days,” Herrera Mendoza said. “On Saturday, we had 311 golf carts line up at our West Soccer Field, with 233 returning to participate in the festivities, which included a screening of Monsters, Inc.”

Monsters, Inc. is an animated comedy film produced by Pixar Animation studio featuring the hairy “Sully” and his one-eyed partner and friend “Mike,” who are employed at Monsters, Incorporated, which produces energy by scaring children. But when a little girl, “Boo,” accidentally enters their world, it’s a disaster. The movie was chosen by an online vote of residents before the event.

Costumes ranged from the macabre and scary, like the clown monster from Stephen King’s It, to the whimsical, such as a family of Smurfs, or Ghostbusters or even food items. The event is expected to return next year.
