Aaron Rai’s most endearing part of his gear setup would be the headcovers that adorn his irons. Yes, we’re talking about iron covers, perhaps the most taboo of silly golf-style choices. Iron covers are basically a rarity on the PGA Tour. Rai is likely the only full-time Tour member who uses them week in and week out.
But the Englishman doesn’t donn the major golf faux pas because he doesn’t care about how it looks — which he doesn’t but that’s beside the point. Rai actually has quite an endearing reason for keeping them on his sticks.

He also wears two gloves which is a major faux pas to a large majority of the gatekeepers on here.

I don’t have iron covers but will never understand the hate for them. Why does someone else’s decision to protect their clubs a certain way bother you so damn much?? I just don’t get it.

Tbh I got fitted for clubs irons and spent like $2300 4-LW on them and for about 3 years I used iron covers because of the amount of money I spent on them and I wanted them to last. I only recently took off the iron covers because I have a pretty stable walking cart and my irons don’t clack much. If I ever ride or carry I put them back on. No reason to clack clack clack on stuff that expensive. A nice set of irons can last a very long time if you take care of them

I use headcovers for my irons for the exact same reason I clean the brake dust off my alloys with an alloy cleaning spray instead of fairy liquid . They both cost lots of cash and with just a small amount of care I can have them look like brand new for years.
They would both work exactly the same whatever I do, but for me it’s nice to have nice things
How do you return the time lost to your fellow competitors when the iron cover is left on the last hole? The time it takes around the green to find all of your wedge covers. This is non refundable, and watching someone look for an iron cover maybe one of the most pathetic things you can view on a course.
This take is selfish, protecting your equipment at the expense of my time is not ok.
People always comment how good/unworn my Mizuno MP-67 look and I owe that all to iron covers. My mom is a single parent and I cherish everything she’s gotten for me. The flack I caught for the covers was always hilarious and never bothered me enough to stop using them.
My last bag (which she got me at the same time as the MP-67s) finally blew out and I ended up getting a OGIO silencer bag so now my babied irons can live cover free, I get to see them in their full glory, and I don’t get shit on anymore. So far, the bag’s slots are more of a bitch to manage on the course than head covers lol.
I love my iron covers. I have a bad problem with forgetting clubs, so having iron covers helps me remember to put the club in the bag. If I have the head cover in my pocket and not the iron in hand then I know I forgot it and have to pick it up.
He started using them as a kid…… most of you dorks took the game up as employed adults. Guys or gals with iron covers never get to finger bang cart girls.
