On November 9, several news outlets reported on Donald Trump’s arrival at the Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach, Florida. Soon after, videos of the incident emerged on social media, including platforms like X (formerly Twitter), where people began to voice their displeasure over what they witnessed.

Trump’s decision to visit a golf course during the ongoing government shutdown has attracted considerable criticism online. While many federal employees are struggling to make ends meet due to not receiving pay during the shutdown, and numerous others face the risk of hunger due to cuts in SNAP benefits, Trump’s actions come across as not only tone-deaf but also cruel.

Having said that, it’s not surprising that Trump retreated to his safe haven after causing significant distress for thousands of Americans and making life in the nation he governs nearly unbearable. This is a pattern he has demonstrated in the past as well. Nevertheless, people are not holding back when it comes to calling his behaviour out regarding this issue. One user on X had some strong words for the current President of the United States, referring to him as:

Scum of the earth!”

Another individual made some compelling observations about the patterns of those in power who ignore the sufferings of those without it, and linked it to Trump’s behaviour in the current circumstances. They remarked:

It always amazes me how politicians can ask for “shared sacrifice” while their weekends look suspiciously like luxury retreats. If the crisis hits hard enough, the people feel it first. The ones who cause it? They’re out of reach, literally and figuratively. If you ever wondered whether rulers actually live under the rules they write, just watch who picks up the tab for their downtime. No one ever votes for a shutdown, but someone always profits from it. Guess who.”

Many others expressed similar sentiments about Donald Trump escaping to a golf resort while Americans struggle to make ends meet.
