A golfer from Huddersfield has said she is “incredibly proud” to be selected for the England squad.
Lily Hirst, from Huddersfield, has been selected for the England National Women’s Squad for the 2025-2026 campaign. The golfer said she was excited for the new season, and that she is aiming to be part of the Curtis Cup squad.
She started out at Outlane Golf Club aged just three, before moving to Woodsome Hall Golf Club to continue her training. Now a member of Huddersfield Golf Club, Lily is aiming to take her already successful career to new heights.
Lily won the Match in the Desert 2025, helping the University of Kansas to the team event, and helped England win the 2024 Women’s and Men’s Home Internationals, after helping the women win their category in 2024. She also won the 2024 English Women’s Open Stroke Play Championship at Stoneham, represented England in 2024 and in the 2025 European Ladies Championship, and had three top ten finishes in the USA in 2023.
In addition, she won a top ten finish at the 2024 English Under 25 Championship, and made a top ten finish at the 2025 South American Amateur Championship.
Lily said: “I am incredibly proud to have been selected to represent England for another year during the 2026 season, and beyond excited for the new experiences and opportunities this new year will bring as I continue working hard towards turning professional. Every sportsperson dreams of representing their country, and every time I tee it up, I feel so grateful for every opportunity I get to do just that. We’re so fortunate as players to be surrounded in a high performance, professional environment that makes it easier for us to succeed. The coaches and support staff are fully invested in our journeys, supporting us through the highs and the lows, and this commitment is what helps us to perform to the best of our abilities.”
“2026 is shaping to be a fun year, with the opportunity to travel to new countries and play world class golf courses, competing against some of the best amateurs in the world. Every tournament is an opportunity to learn, develop and test myself on big stages, as I prepare to make that next step into pro golf. These earlier fixtures are going to be particularly important for myself as I aim to earn a place in the Curtis Cup squad.””Growing up at Outlane Golf Club has shaped my golfing journey more than I can express. I started playing golf at Outlane at the age of 3, dragging my plastic clubs down the fairways with my dad, and almost 20 years later, I’m still a proud member. I then spent 5 years at Woodsome Hall GC to further develop my game, and my recent move to Huddersfield GC has taken my golf to another level. The course and facilities are top class, helping me prepare to play other golf courses to a high standard.
“I am incredibly grateful for the support I’ve received across the Huddersfield golfing community, and Yorkshire as a whole. Huddersfield has always had a strong golfing profile, and the ongoing encouragement I receive means the world to me. Being able to play a variety of golf courses, in true Yorkshire wind and rain, during my junior years has developed all aspects of my game tenfold and played a huge role in helping me reach a lifelong child dream of representing my country.”
Jenny Henderson, England Golf Women’s Performance Manger, also shared her excitement for the new season. She said: “I know I speak for the entire National Coaching Team when I say we are incredibly excited to work with this talented group of players as the new coaching year begins.
“A new season is a new opportunity — not just to lower scores, but to raise our standards. Every swing, every coaching session, every day, we aim to get a little bit better. This group of players already have some remarkable achievements to be proud of, but we’re not just about chasing trophies — we’re chasing potential.
“The work these players put in ahead of next season will define who they are when the pressure is on. Each player brings unique strengths, and we are looking forward to supporting them with opportunities to grow, compete, and achieve something special. The commitment and energy I’ve already seen gives me great confidence in what’s ahead.
“These squads include exclusively UK-based players. An announcement confirming overseas players will follow later in the coaching year.”
