For those that know, it's hurts. For those that don't? That's a tarp, used to cover the greens for the winter.

I’m east coast in Canada and going this afternoon. My course is the last one open (closing after today) and it’ll be my second November round with a winter hat and then gloves for between shots 🥶

  2. Breaks my heart for you. That’s not even on my radar here in SoCal.

My local course does a thing where they close but they leave a mailbox out and say anybody who wants to walk can drop in $10 of cash and go play.
Well I went out yesterday again, and saw the tarps out. It’s supposed to be 36° today so I’m scared that next time I go back I won’t be able to play…. Fuck the winter lol

Not just a northern thing. Texas is about to get an arctic blast. Courses have been scrambling all week moving tarps into position in anticipation of the first frost warning of the season.

  5. I feel ya. Spent the first few decades of my life in that zone.

First sizable snowfall last night here my Sunday tee times are no more : /

Already have snow here. We’ve hit the 5th stage of grief already.

Just to rub it in from the UK, we are on as high of a latitude as Canada and our golf courses don’t have to close for winter

Clean course man. Hardly any leaves. Wish maintenance would be as good at my home club in germany… is it always like this?

  10. Live in a cold climate but in a part of a valley that doesn’t get much snow, so consequently I’ve golfed even in January at the one course in my small town. Yet now they’ve installed newfangled screen golf in the clubhouse and are pushing that and closed and tarped around Halloween even though it’s dry and in the 50s or 40s every day. They’ll probably course correct (pun moderately intended) when they realize simulators don’t really scratch the itch and give us our fall golf back in the coming years.

Does it have to get REALLY cold before places use tarps? I haven’t seen this near Seattle, but we’ll get days in the 20s during a cold snap. Anyone know?

I live in Canada and I can live with it. As much as I love golf I’ve come to love the winter just as much now, I’ll put my golf clubs away and grab my ice fishing gear and I’ll be happy for the rest of the winter till it’s time to golf again in the spring

Yup , everything around us closes this week (5 inches of snow forecast today) , time to head to the indoor sims , where the 8ft gimmes are awesome and the overinflated backspin makes you think you’ve conquered your short game 😀.

I just booked an indoor tennis course for the next 5 weeks because I need a replacement for golf. Hard to accept that it’s over for a couple months.

Played last round yesterday, tarps going on this week and snowing today.

If you haven’t had to break ice balls off your cleats to putt. You don’t know winter golf.

  18. Same here in Finland. My local course closed today.

One thing I like now is that even though it’s almost the end of golfing on the course, a lot of driving ranges here in the north and I’m referring to Connecticut where I live, for example where they have a live driving ranges with heated bays in addition to so many places, you can utilize indoor golf with the various simulators as well while also studying and replicating all these indoor drills, you can do at your house or even in your yard. You know before the snow starts that help you to keep yourself in that game improvement and practice mindset as you go along and keep your game on track and better it even in the winter months as well. There’s so much out there that make it so you can keep track of it and keep focused untilearly spring when the golf course is open up plus there’s so many good things you could watch Golf related on YouTube and otherwise!

Been done here for a month now. (North central sask)

Greens covers. Also sad for those installing with gale force wind chills in the teens.

  22. Northern California golfer here. We played in shorts yesterday. Sorry for your loss.

That, and when they mow short a 10′ x 5′ rectangle in the rough between the regular tees and the fairway on each hole.
