What happens to a professional athlete’s heart rate when you terrify them at 200mph?? We put career grand slam winner Rory McIlroy in a racing car around the famous Yas Marina Circuit, home of the Abu Dhabi F1 Grand Prix on Yas Island, ahead of the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship, the first event in the DP World Tour Play-Offs.

Being driven by racing driver Francesca Pardini, McIlroy’s heart rate, stress and strain were being captured by his WHOOP as we see whether the man who manages to keep his cool so well on the course can remain composed under pressure of a totally different sort.

I’m Roy Moy and today I’m going to have the living daylight scared out of me. part of a line with a champion. Ain’t even trying. If you got a problem, I’m the answer. Unbelievable. I ain’t going to stop. Um, we are going to get you miked up in a suit probably. Well, we’ll need your hat off in the helmet. I got to sign the waiver. Go. Five hours of sleep. Jet lag. Not good. Yeah. But still 83% recovery. There you go. Letting go. Okay. Okay. Let’s do the lines. Let’s do this. Very cool. It’s pretty sweet. Yeah, I’m excited for this. This is going to be good. This is pretty cool. That’s really cool. That’s unbelievable. I can’t cannot wait. Hi. How are you? How are you? Nice to meet you, Francesca. How you doing? I’m good. You? Yeah. Great. Ready to jump on the track. Excited for this. Amazing. Amazing. So, let me give you your helmet. Thank you. Yep. Okay. Let’s strap you in. Okay. And Okay. Jump to the car. Yeah. The leg up. Oh, there we go. Okay. Patrick Patrick will come to take distance from you here again. Okay. All right. You’re under pressure. I’m usually pretty good. You sure? H and this is the famous latit. Okay. So now then we go for the two. So that was just the warm up. It was the warm up. Okay, good. It’s a little bit hot here. That is good. Good sound. It’s a free sound. Thank you. You’re welcome. Good. Yeah. Holy. Oh, was good. Oh, was it? That was unbeliev It was amazing. I mean, it was a little scary, but I think you can do better. I want to go out again. You will see now. Yeah, we’ll see. That’s amazing. That’s unbelievable. Let’s go for the second round. It’s close. Yep. Good. Heat. Heat. Heat. Heat. Heat. Heat. Woohoo! Thank you so much. I got up there. Got up over 100. That was all right. Only 100. 103. That was fine. I thought I might be higher than that. Me, too. Because I saw your face. I know. Yeah, the face seemed like higher than that. I guess I’ I’ve learned how to control my heart rate. Okay. Yeah, good. Yeah. That was really cool though. I’m exhausted. I don’t know about you. That was absolutely incredible. Um just the acceleration, you know, I thought the first lap was like the lap and then all of a sudden you’re like, well, no, there’s a lot more this car has. You think you can drive, okay, and then you get in there with like a real driver and it’s it’s completely different. It’s it’s really cool. Well, it’s like your body awareness. You’re like, you realize you just collapse into the side of the car, you’re like, “No, I got to like, you know, and then your neck’s like all over. You’re like, you’re fighting it the whole time.” Like, like you think about those guys that do like 70 70 laps in a Grand Prix, right? And what they’re going through and the Grand Prix F1 car is way quicker than that. You would like to think your heart rate’s not going to get too high as a professional athlete. And yeah, I mean it got up over 100. I’m buzzing after that, by the way. That was really cool. Yeah, I got out of the car and I was buzzing and I still am buzzing. Like it’s such a cool experience. And yeah, like a little bit of adrenaline, I guess. Yeah. To watch another DP World Tour video, click here. And to subscribe, click here.

  1. I took a lap with a racing driver and he's right. You think you can drive fast but a professional is a different amimal. The way their feet dance around on the pedals is something to see in itself. Great video.
