Danthai Boonma is poised to take on the challenge of joining the LIV Golf League, a move that would mark a historic milestone in his career as Thailand’s leading golfer. After an impressive season that saw him rise to the top of The International Series Rankings, Boonma is now on the cusp of becoming the first full-time Thai player to compete in the prestigious LIV Golf League. His consistent performances, including a standout second-place finish at the International Series Morocco, have secured him a spot in key upcoming events like the PIF Saudi International and the LIV Golf Promotions event in January. As he continues to build on his success, Boonma’s determination and strong momentum position him for a groundbreaking breakthrough in the world of golf.
Boonma’s solid performance at the Moutai Singapore Open has demonstrated his consistency and skill. After a four-under-par 68 in the second round, he comfortably made the cut, a crucial step in any tournament. He followed this up with an even-par round on Saturday, maintaining his momentum as the tournament entered its final stages. Though he’s 11 strokes behind the leaders and out of contention for a top finish, his ability to stay grounded and focused on steady progress remains a key strength.
Currently ranked 10th in The International Series Rankings, Boonma has had a standout season, with his second-place finish at the International Series Morocco serving as a major highlight. There, he finished just behind Scott Vincent, a result that saw him rise dramatically in the rankings — from 51st to 5th. This strong performance in Morocco secured him a spot in two prestigious events: the PIF Saudi International powered by SoftBank Investment Advisers and the LIV Golf Promotions event set to take place in January. These events represent significant milestones in his quest to join the LIV Golf League, offering him valuable exposure and the chance to compete at the highest level.
Boonma’s rise in the rankings reflects his growing reputation within the golf world. His impressive form has not only earned him a place among the top players in The International Series but also positioned him as a key figure in Thailand’s golf scene. He is now looking forward to competing alongside some of the best players in the world, including fellow Thai golfers like Poom Saksansin, Pavit Tangkamolprasert, Sarit Suwannarut, Jazz Janewattananond, Sadom Kaewkanjana, Suteepat Prateeptienchai, and Atiruj Winaicharoenchai, all of whom are also in the top 40 of the rankings and are expected to join him in the LIV Golf Promotions event.
“Yes, definitely — LIV Golf is a great opportunity and would be an incredible experience to play on that stage with some of the best players in the world. It would be amazing to be the first full-time Thai player to play on LIV Golf. That would mean a lot to me and to Thai golf. If I keep improving step by step, I believe that opportunity will come at the right time.”
While the Moutai Singapore Open has been a challenging event for Boonma, his overall performance this season has been exceptional, considering the obstacles he has faced. One of the most difficult periods of the year came when his father was hospitalized. Despite the personal strain, Boonma managed to produce one of his best performances at the International Series Morocco. That moment, he says, helped him gain perspective, reminding him of what truly matters and fueling his determination to keep progressing on the course.
“I try not to put too much pressure on myself. I just focus on my own game, keep practising hard, and stay consistent. Every tournament is a new opportunity to improve and gain experience. Of course, the thought of moving up the rankings is there, but I want to enjoy the process rather than stress over it.”
Reflecting on his play this week at Singapore Island Country Club, Boonma said: “Overall, my ball-striking was really solid today. I’m hitting it well at the moment, but my putting has dropped a bit compared to earlier this season. That’s definitely an area I need to spend more time on — improving my putting and short game will make a big difference.”
Looking ahead, Boonma is clear about his goals. While the final round of the Moutai Singapore Open is unlikely to bring him a win, he is focused on the long-term picture — growing his game, improving his ranking, and ultimately earning a spot in the LIV Golf League. As one of Thailand’s most promising golf talents, Boonma’s journey is far from over, and the future looks bright as he continues to take on the world’s best and aim for a groundbreaking achievement in the sport.
“Honestly, that week in Morocco was a bit different for me. My mind wasn’t really on golf — I was just focused on my dad. Maybe that actually helped me relax and take things shot by shot. It reminded me how important it is to stay calm and keep things simple.”
