Hey guys, welcome back to Modern Golf. Hope you’re having a great day and even better week. Today, unfortunately, we’re talking about the end of the golf season for a lot of us. So, how do you survive playing in awfully cold weather uh from leaves to cold weather to snow to sleet terrain, we’re going to cover it all and how to survive the next several months of golfing. Let’s talk about clothing first. And let’s first get into base layers. What are our three favorite kind of base layers um that you can wear that really don’t make you sweat to death. Uh cuz that’s an awful experience as well. U but also keeps you warm. So there’s three that I really like. Uh the first one, and I’ll put the pictures up, REI makes a marino under layer that you can wear uh literally they have tops as well as tights. I know some of you guys refuse to wear tights, but that’s fine. um used to be called long underwear or long johns, but anyway, so they’ve kind of manded up a little bit. They’ve they’ve uh made it a little more masculine, but I love these uh by REI. They’re fantastic. Uh not inexpensive, but again, I have found these to breathe extremely well, but also kept me very warm uh as we play during the golf season. Two other ones I like, Under Armour with their cold gear, and they used to have all different numbers, 2.0, 3.0. These are the ones I like and I’ll put pictures up of the two different ones I like and I’ll put everything in the description as we go. But I really like the Under Armour. One for price point, two uh really for the quality regarding the value of it. Uh there’s I don’t want to spend $200 for like a Patagonia R1 Kapalene that I’m going to wear once a year, right? So I don’t mind spending 60 bucks on something that’s going to last me a number of seasons, but I don’t want to go crazy uh with it either. So these are a good sweet spot. The other one I like, and I haven’t worn their tights, but I’ve worn their top a lot for those guys who hate wearing hoodies or vests or what have you, but want to wear compression. I like Fjoys a lot. Uh, and I’ll put pictures up of all theirs as well. I really like what Fjoy has done. Uh, they’re very comfortable. Again, if you want to be the guy who’s still wearing a polo, um, but you want to wear something underneath to keep you a little warmer, that’s the one I like the most. Now, let’s talk about mid layers. So, hoodies, vests, uh long sleeve golf shirts. Yes, there is it’s a thing. Um, who are our favorites? So, let’s get into vests first. So, some of my favorite vests, and I’m a vest guy. You guys will see me probably from what’s it, October? Probably another month till April, uh, I’ll be wearing some type of vest. So, some of my favorites, uh, that I’ve worn and tested and really have abused. Uh, this one is from Fjoy. I think this is called their denim. I believe this is one still available. It was on clearance when I looked last time. Uh for vests for Fjoy, just for sizing references, I’m a medium in their polos. I go to a large in their vest because I usually layer them up. But love this one. This one is from their Tempo series. Super lightweight. Really enjoy it. Like the light blue. Um as you guys know, we’ve done a lot of their rain gear as well. But love this. I’ve worn this for a lot of things. Cuz the only thing I will say I don’t love about what Fjoy does for some of these, they don’t make a double zipper and and I like to kind of unzip the bottom so when I bend over it doesn’t kind of blouse up. Um, but these are okay. This one’s a lighter weight one but cuts the wind which I absolutely love. And the other brand that I love and I wear all the time and you guys see me in them all the time is G4. And so G4 has a double zipper uh which I like. Again, a little more price point. You can pick these up to be honest with you. Very inexpensive. uh secondhand or like on eBay. Believe it or not, uh like this vest may go for two something you can pick up for like 80 bucks brand new. Again, I love Peter Mar. I also like G4, but really a fan of what G4 styles are. Uh zipper pockets. It’s a great vest. U it’s also like as you guys can see here, a little different color on the back. But I love what G4 does. I think it’s very cool. Again, it’s kind of what I like. I like that kind of preppy punky look. um but still looks sophisticated and still looks kind of appropriate in all really work office um golfing and everything in between. So quarter zips are probably the number one sold thing I would say in the golf industry for men. Uh I don’t know I’m wearing one. I don’t know how many I own, but God knows it’s a ton of them. Three of my absolute favorite. Um this one is by Under Armour. Love it. It’s a lighter weight one which I love. I did a deal on this one a couple months ago. I told you guys about this was on sale for $24. Uh they also have it navy which I picked up. Unfortunately, I bought them when they weren’t on sale but now they’re on sale. These are some other ones that I really like. This one is also brand new for Under Armour. Again, this kind of came out with the Rider Cup size side of things. U this is the European color. Uh has a little reflective logo here. I’m not going to gush about how much I love Under Armour. told you guys on and on and on, but love the fit and again I think the bang for your buck with Under Armour. It’s fantastic. I love what they’re doing. Have no issues with it. The other one I like, and this is more of a jacket. Um, and I’ve worn this a few times now, and this is by Galway Bay. And what I like about Gway Bay is it’s a lot of their stuff is waterproof. Um, it fits really good. I’ll maybe I’ll put this on or I’ll show you guys pictures of of how somebody had it on. This is an extra large. So, what I’m going to tell you, what I like about Gway Bay is it’s very trim fitting. What I’m going to tell you is you’re going to have to go up a size unless you’re like shaped like a pencil. Um, I have a 42 in chest. I had to go to an extra large. Fits good. Um, but literally had to go to an extra large in these. So, I love Gway Bas products. Super soft hand. Love the pockets. Love everything about this. Uh, and again, a lot of their products are waterproof. I tell you one of the things I really like about this and I don’t know if you guys can see it has a longer back um to kind of cover your butt when it’s cold out. So love what Gway Bay is doing and I think my staple hoodie uh that I wear besides quarter zips. This is the Under Armour one. Uh this happens to be like a kind of a heathered navy. I like this one because it doesn’t have pockets. And so if you’re a guy who wants pockets in your hoodies, I totally get it. I don’t love having h pockets all the time in my hoodies. It’s it blouses them out. doesn’t look right. This gives a little more trimmer look. I go to a large in my Under Armour stuff and it fits me fantastic. And this is the UA drive hoodie. I have this. You guys have seen me wear it in light blue, dark blue. I got it in black. Um my favorite from the UA line was the one we saw uh at the PG. I’ll put pictures up of it with the camouflage. And this camouflage isn’t like this camouflage. This camouflage, it’s an $85 hoodie. It looks like a cashmere sweater when you get it. It’s fantastic. But those are our favorite kind of mid layers. And we if we get into True Rain, we talked about Gway Bay. We really like their products. Um I’m a huge fan of Fjoy. If you haven’t seen our full review of how we torture tested their three really the industry, I think the industry is three of the top five selling raincoats. Uh the half sleeve, their tour one, and their hydro, the light one, and how fantastic they are. Um check that out. But we love those. We also I’m a huge fan. I’m a huge fan of zero restriction as well. Um, so those are three we really, really like for raincoats. One thing I’ll say about raincoats is make sure for me they have pit zips. Uh, and two, they have a double zipper. So again, when you bend over to putt, you’re not eating your jacket. So let’s talk about shoes real quick. And timing is everything in life. So literally why I’m planning this video, these shoes come out from True Linksear. This is their OG3 Pro. And I’ll put pictures up and we’ll do a full review of this as we go. But this is the OG 3 Pro High. And this shoe is, I think, one of the coolest golf shoes I’ve ever seen. I’ll put pictures up, but you can see the spikes. I have not worn these yet. Uh, we will test these as we go. This is a bone colorway. 100% waterproof. Very cool how the the laces actually wrap around to snug this up. This is actually a way more comfortable boot than I would have anticipated. It looks like a clunky boot. I mean, to some of you guys, it may look clunky, but it’s super soft, super pliable, very comfortable. Uh, I was testing this out in the other room hitting golf balls. Very comfortable shoe. Again, we’ve talked about the the zero drop technology and all that with uh True Linksear. Very cool shoe. They also make this in black. This is the ultimate fall and winter golf boot. The other one we really like, and I’ll put pictures up of this Nike. Uh, this I don’t know if it’s a retread of last year, but they show it’s new, so I don’t really know, but Nike, it’s kind of that ACG looking shoe. Very cool golf shoe. Love um this style. I don’t know how much you wear something like this, you know, for a few months maybe or a couple months. Um, but very cool. So, let’s talk about some accessories that you need, then we’ll kind of keep this list moving. So, gloves. I love winter gloves. Uh, Fjoy makes a great pair. Footy also makes a stay soft winter pair, and I’ll put pictures up. I had never seen these before until I just ran into them uh not too long ago, a few months ago, and I was really surprised that they even made those. So, very cool. I’m also a big fan of rain gloves. And so, we’ve been testing these from Red Rooster. Uh and these are fantastic. Uh I actually had poured water on these uh yesterday to see how they would do. And I actually got the plane a little bit of rain last week with these, but literally fantastic. Um you know, will I say it’s the best rain glove? I will say we’ll continue to test. I think they’re one of the best that I’ve ever tried. Really, really good. The, you know, like with all rain gloves, the more wet they get, the better they are. But the one thing I will say that I love more than anything else about Red Rooster is they’re true to size. And when I am a medium in their gloves, I’m a medium. I don’t have 10 different gloves from from Red Rooster that fit differently. They all fit identical, which I love and really appreciate it. The other thing we really like are mittens. Now, Ping makes them, Tylus makes them. There’s a I don’t care what brand you buy. But I love mittens for the golf course. Um, wear them. You get to your ball, take them off, put them on, you’re good to go. Winter hats, uh, I am kind of one of two ways. I will wear an earband around, uh, my ears if I’m wearing a hat like this, or I’ll wear a winter hat. Uh, the only thing I will tell you is look for a winter hat that covers part of your ear, if not have ear flaps, uh, like Elmer Fud. The other thing I will say is make sure it’s washable. Uh I am always blown away when I’m looking at hats that how so many you can’t wash them. And if you wash them, they are literally destroyed. Like I had a certain brand, I won’t tell you who it was, a couple years ago. I wore it once. It was like one of these days where it’s 50, but you’re still kind of sweating and went to go wash it. It was destroyed. Literally destroy. I put it in a a laundry bag type thing on delicate and the thing literally came apart. So, pay attention to really what hats you like. These are two we like. One from Patagonia that has kind of a wool blend and this is the other one we like and you guys can see. Uh, but those are two of our favorite winter hats for the golf season. Another thing that I absolutely love um and I saw this years ago, Martin uh I Martin Kimer or somebody years ago on the P European PJ tour had one of these and this is a neckator. Uh, I will say if you’ve never worn a neckator, go get yourself one. They’re not expensive. REI has them for 20 bucks and even less. Um, you’ll be shocked on what a difference this crazy looking thing does for you. You literally just I think some people call them a snood. I know they have some that go over. This is literally just a neckator that covers your neck. Warm your neck. You’d be shocked on what difference it makes uh while you’re golfing in cooler and cold weather. Pants. We’re going to talk about pants real quick. Three styles that I love. Uh the first one is not a traditional looking golf pant. Uh it is the 10,000 interval pants. And if you’ve worn 10,000 products, they are like bulletproof. Um I like the interval pants because it’s got um zippers that slide up and down both the pockets as well as to get them on and off. So if you like more of a wider leg uh look, they’re great. If you wanted to zip them up, they look more like joggers. I am not a jogger guy. Um, but they also have a drawstring waist. Very stretchable, very comfortable. I love golfing in these. Um, and again, helps cut that wind a little bit. Veri makes these Meta pants. We talked about the Meta shorts earlier in the year. Uh, absolutely in really enjoy these pants because they’re kind of a true midweight. They’re not super heavyweight where you’re like sweating your, you know, what’s off when you’re playing around. Um, but a nice midweight. Has a lot of stretch to them. Has a neat blend quality to them. I really have enjoyed these pants. I also have them in a cargo uh version and I’ll put pictures up of these. Super enjoyable pants to wear. Again, can wear them on and off the golf course. Again, it’s one of our favorite things uh with a lot of golf clothing these days is how you can wear this on or off. The other one I’m going to put up is G4. Uh we love G4’s pants. Um with G4, definitely go your true waist size. If you’re 33, get a 33 and 34 go your 34. Um for the 10,000 it go small, medium, large, extra large, double XX. Uh my waist is 34, 33, 34, uh depending on how many cookies I eat. So I go to a large. They’re a little big, but it’s better than if I get a medium, they look like I’m wearing tights. Not a good look. Same thing with sizing with Vuertic. Go true to size. If you’re 33, get a 33. So next things up, let’s talk about some tech things that really make life easier when you’re out there freezing your whatoff. Um hand warmers. You can buy electric rechargeable ones, which are fantastic. like we did it last year as one of our best things for Christmas. You can get them for under 20 bucks. This is the time to get them before they sell out. You can also buy those uh ones you just kind of crack open, use for the day. Also great for toes and your feet and you throw them out when you’re done. Love those. One of my favorite products that we’ve tested in a long time is this device. And this cools your neck. Uh it was one of our things to beat the heat and also warms your neck. So, it’s something you’re not obviously going to play in the whole time you’re playing, but in between shots, you put this thing on your neck and it literally will warm your neck. It’s fantastic. I haven’t used this with this, but be interesting. Maybe I’ll try that when it gets cold out. Um, but absolutely love it. Again, these range from $30 on up to $300. Really, depending on what your budget, I love this. I think it’s a very cool gift. I think it’s a very cool thing to have. And I think if you’re using one or have used one, they’re fantastic. You really won’t look back uh at how to stay warm or cold. uh depending on where you want in the year uh with this device. So, some other things, cart warmers. Uh they have these propane tanks you can buy. Uh they also now make uh like electrical and I’ll put pictures up. Heaters for your golf cart. If you’re a walker, um I am at times in the winter. I actually prefer to walk when it’s cold out cuz I stay warm while everyone else is freezing in their cart, but it’s a whole another story. Um but for carts, they have the cart surround that obviously obviously will help keep your cart warm. And again, the propane heaters, I don’t love the propane heaters because I taste it. I’m like, I I’m I’m eating this propane. So, a lot of the new technology has it where they’re these temporary ones you can put in, they run off electric, has a battery pack. Very cool products. Those are more what I’m looking for. But, so that’ll help you stay warm in the cart. The other tech thing that a lot of you told us last year that you use is a little leaf blower. So, as the leaves come down, um, you actually bring a little electric leaf blower to blow the leaves either off a green or off a tea box or a fairway. I think there’s nothing more frustrating than when you’re playing in the fall and you hit a great shot and it goes to leaves and you’re like, no idea where it is. So, that leads us to golf balls. So, this is not the time of the year to play your premium provash. Uh, leave those at home. I love playing a bright golf ball. One of my absolute favorites is the Wilson Duo. It’s a softball. Does not sting, does not hurt your hands. Um, but one of the things we really enjoy uh when we playing in the fall and winter is the Wilson Duo golf balls. There’s some lot there’s a lot of great golf balls, but we really enjoy the bright colors as well as the soft feel for the fall and winter. So lastly, one last thing I want to tell you guys this time of year, what I think is great for it’s time to it’s time to replace those grips. So if you’ve got worn grips and they hurt and your hands aren’t feeling good and they’re and again they’re slick, uh time for new grips. I don’t necessarily care what grips you get. We’ve been testing I’ll just give you example. These are dragon skins. And the reason I’ve been trying these, and I have them on a couple of my clubs now, is they’re a softer, but they’re tacky, so I don’t feel like I have to really give it a death grip. Um, but really good. These are 360, so they’re all the way around. We’re going to test these fully as we go. But again, another kind of cool product. And if it’s time to replace some grips, this is the time to do it. Uh, you can also do it in the spring. Uh, but I love doing it right before fall as it becomes rainy and cold. This is the time of the year I like to have fresh grips. So, that’s all I have for this. If you have any tips, again, get at us. Let me know. What do you do to stay warm and comfortable when it’s in the midst of, you know, 50° and under? Uh, I will play normally till it’s almost unbearable. I am that guy. I will play till high30s, low 40s and think nothing of it. I actually really enjoy golf in the fall. Unfortunately, it can end abruptly. like I’m in it’s you know October now by early November I could be done. Um so we try to hang on as much as we can to warm weather but then I do enjoy um fall golf. I think it’s the best personally. Um but you know each his own. So anyway guys I hope you enjoyed. If there’s anything you guys suggest certainly let us know. And again we will catch up with you next time. Thanks guys.

  1. As a former Minnesotan, I survive playing in cold weather by moving my happy golfing self to the Hilton Head area. It does get cold here though, so Johnnie-O Talon hoodie is awesome on the course. Southern Tide brr performance hoodie is a fantastic fall layer. Rhoback Helsi hoodie is another great option. Haven’t worn a quarter zip in a couple years, strictly super lightweight flexible hoodies. Add a vest if it’s really cold, zero restriction our club stocked last year. Easy to wear, not noticeable you even have it on.

  2. The G-Tech heated hand warmers were the best thing I’ve ever bought for winter golf. I can easily play down into the high 20s with that thing.

  3. Hey man I am really enjoying your videos, they are not only very helpful but informing. Thank you and I hope your fall/winter season is good!
