Hi I’m Matt Lockey, welcome to my Coach Lockey YouTube Channel. This YouTube channel is designed to help you play better golf, and to help you enjoy your golf more!
I specialise in golf course vlogs, golf challenges, golf tips, golf lessons, golf club reviews and the odd golf club unboxing. So pretty much everything golf!
I want to help you play better golf by providing coaching videos on all topics about golf. How to fix your slice, fix your hook, help you drive the golf ball longer, hit your irons more pure, hit your irons closer to the hole and help you draw and fade your golf shots.
As well as helping you produce the best long game you can have, I will help you lower your scores by chipping better, stopping duff and thin chips, pitching the ball closer and creating backspin like the tour pros. Finally, I will provide you help to putt better and hole more putts too!

If you struggle to strike your irions pure and are always fatting and thinning your golf shots, I have a simple golf tip for you that could transform your iron play. This simple golf drill will help you understand how to deliver your irons to the ball for better strikes and compression. I don’t know about you, but that’s got me a little bit excited. So, the main reason why golfers struggle with striking their irons, fats, thin shots, you name it, is because they’re not good at delivering the correct dynamic loft at impact. So, your iron has a static loft. It will have around probably 30 to 33° of loft, depending on what clubs you’ve got and manufacturers, those kind of things. But when you deliver the club at at impact, that’s called your dynamic loft. And too many golfers deliver too much loft at impact. If you’re delivering too much loft, you’ll probably see these sorts of breakdown in angles here, these sort of scoopy looks, which really compromises your low point as well. And you need good low point control to make sure you’re striking bull and then turf with your irons. So, how do we go about getting rid of these sorts of looks with irons where you’ve got too much loft on your club at impact? Well, hopefully it’s as simple as having one of these, a club face indicator. These are super cheap off the internet. So go and find yourself one. Or if you don’t have one and you want to do this drill straight away, grab a golf tea, put some cellar tape over it, and just stick it to your club face or a bit of blue tack, something like that. So your tea is sticking off the club face like so. Then grab yourself something as simple as a coffee cup, something like that. Something that’s round that you can pop something into. I’ve grabbed the um used teapot here on the par three at Quint Darago and I’m just going to pop it slightly in front of my golf ball. If I’m someone who is struggling with iron striking, delivering too much loft like we’ve talked about, my club face indicator is going to miss this cup. What we want you to try and achieve is get your club face indicator to go into your cup or whatever it is you’ve popped on the floor. This is going to help you learn how to control loft. Look at what’s happening as I take that loft off. I get a bit of shaft lean. You’ll start to see better impact positions where my handles up towards my lead leg and the club face is more behind my hands getting that shaft lean. And also, this is really good for helping you understand your wrist angles because the main reason why people add loft and have this sort of scoopy look is because as you add loft by twisting the club around the axis. So, I’m adding loft, twisting it, opening the face. To square that club face up again, I have to pull my handle back. So, twist the loft open. It adds loft and opens the face. As I pull my handle back, look, it starts to square the face up towards the target. So, not only will you start to get into these better looking impact positions, you’ll start to get better wrist angles as well, getting rid of these sort of cup looks somewhere in your golf swing. You might add that cup in the back swing and keep it in the down swing. You might be so caught up in stopping to fatting in your irons and thinning them that you’re trying to get rid of this cupping and keep that face closed in the back swing and then you go and add that cup in the down swing. All golfers are different. You need to find out when you need to add that thought of getting rid of that cup in your swing is some people yeah just do it nice and early and they keep it out of their swing throughout. Getting control of this face is so important. You get control of the face, you get control of your dynamic loft, the rest will happen for you. So, I’m setting up to the golf ball just above it, and I’m going to try and get that indicator into that pot here. Now, this is a fairly extreme position. My handle is a long way forward. I wouldn’t expect to see these kind of angles in your actual golf swing. We want to see you sort of aligning up more of this lead side. But overexaggerating it is only going to help you understand how to take loft off of this face. Get these wrists working. Get your forearms rotating a little bit to square that club face up as well. It’s a great tool and makes you so much more aware of what your club face is doing throughout your swing. So once you’ve done a few reps, you can do this on the driving range getting that feel. Move your cup or whatever you put in front to try and get your club face indicator in and then try and do some shots with those feels. You might only a be able to do sort of half swings to keep these feelings in your golf swing and then build it up. But as you build it up, you’ll start to produce those impact positions. That’s going to get you with a bit of shaft lean, your low point in front of the golf ball, striking those irons loads purer. Ball then turf contact. Let’s do another one. That felt so good. I want to do another one. I could stay here all day, I think. Oh, just listen to that strike. Let me know in the comments down below if this simple golf tip helps you transform your iron strikes to stop you fatting and thinning and hitting horrible shots. Let’s start puring them. We talked a little bit about wrist angles in that video. So, if you want more detail about wrist angles, make sure you check out the video on my end screen that will help you dive deeper into some more wrist angles or better wrist angles. Makes sense
Stick it in the cup 😊
I was bit flippy at impact
Had a track man lesson and my swing speed says I should hit 8 iron 168 yards
But my flippy impact I was only getting 140 . It took me about 2 months to understand and get the right feeling of forward shaft lean at impact and getting the dynamic loft right
But now I have it and man what a difference the ball flys off the face and very sexy ball flight 😂 all because I was breaking my wrist somewhere in the swing basically
I have the set it and forget it one piece takeaway swing thought and concentrate on keeping that y shape thru the complete swing
I also talk way to much 🤪😂😂
Thus is a great visual for getting the correct impact position love it 😁 love jolf😁
Very nice, but this is very hard to "diagnose" in a video.
These are issues that require an in-person lesson.
Matty , ive got one of those magnetic spikes, great for hanging your hat on in the buggy 😂 nice vid though janner
Quinta south cracking course remember that par 3 well
