Men’s golf placed third in the Florida Atlantic Invitational on Tuesday, Oct. 28. The three-round tournament had to be shortened to two rounds because of wet course conditions, but that didn’t prevent junior Andrew Ferworn from keeping and earning first place in the tournament.
Ferworn finished eight-under-par with a score of 136. He shot six birdies in each of the two rounds, leading with 12 total.
Ferworn also earned the previous Division I era record for two-round tournaments, which he earned at the Cullan Brown Collegiate. He beat that score of 137, replacing it with his 136 at Florida.
His first place finish helped the team finish third overall, holding a collective two-under-par. The Lions came behind Tarleton State’s 18-under-par and South Florida’s two-under-par.
The team finished with a total of 32 birdies across the two rounds, giving them a strong finish.
Senior Xing Luo finished in a tie for sixth at five-under-par for a total of 139, his highest placement of the 2025 season. This is also the third-best finish in the Lions’ Division I era in the individual two round tournament.
Senior Sebastian Bengtsson finished 37th at two-over-par, shooting a total of four-birdies. Freshman Jedd Brady and redshirt freshman Walter Waineby added to the scores. Brady finished nine-over-par to place 72nd, and Waineby finished 22-under-par to place 88th.
Senior Blake Henriques finished 49th at four-over-par and added five birdies in round two.
“We just didn’t play our best this week and the big numbers hurt us,” said Head Coach Austin Phillips. “We need to learn from this quickly because this is what has held us back this season; we are so close and then something just brings it back. This team has the talent, and we have the schedule next semester to move us back up. I hate we didn’t play the last round because I think we would have made a run in those final 18 holes.”
