A large housing and golf course development proposed for Peachland has hit a series of delays and the district council has introduced resolutions in an effort to get the project moving.

On Tuesday, Peachland mayor Patrick Van Minsel read out two resolutions directed at a pair of projects, one of them being the Ponderosa development.

The resolutions were passed at the Oct. 30 closed meeting.

The first resolution is directed at Romspen Group and says council will enforce terms of an existing covenant, the outstanding landscaping issues must be completed and no further extensions will be granted.

It also says council will direct staff to apply a monthly penalty of $100,000 for failure to complete the golf course by Nov. 1, which was included in the original agreement between the municipality and developer.

The Ponderosa development, which is proposed for an area at the base of Pincushion Mountain, received rezoning approval in September 2023 and received an extension last fall.

Romspen Group is proposing 445-units and a nine-hole golf course.

The second resolution is directed to Beech Westgard, who is working on the northern end of the property. It requires that the “North Golf Course Area” must also include a nine-hole golf course.

During a public hearing in August 2023, the developers were very opposed to the idea of building a golf course.
