If you want consistent irons pull out your impact bag. These training aids have been around forever. The problem is people hit the impact bag at impact but impact is not the widest point of the arc. The widest point is after impact which is where I would want you placing the bag so you consistently hit the widest point of your swing. Move the bag to where I want it and you widen your arc and fully release the club.

Impact is not the widest point of your swing. When you do your swing at impact, there is an angle between your lead arm and the club shaft. Both arms are not stretched out fully until about 2 feet after contact. With irons, about 3 feet after with the longer clubs. That’s because when we fire our lower body, our upper body tilts backwards. So, we hit the ball from back here. So, if I start here and I hit it here, my arms are not stretched out again until about 2 ft after contact. Also, if you are trying to hit the impact bag at impact, you are trying to hit the ball. That means you’re hitting it with your arms. So, where do we put it? So, if this is, you know, where the ball would be, we’re going to measure off two feet. One, two. And that is where you’re going to put the bag. All right. Now, ball would be here. That’s two feet after. So, right here, I’m going to do practice swings like this and hit the bag there. There. Both arms perfectly stretched out. 2 ft after impact.

What about a divot after the ball? Or is this a drill to extend the arms after impact?
love this one Paul.
Would we also be wanting to hit this bag inside of the target like as the ball would be on the target line?… If you know what i mean
I know this, but this really helped me visualize it. Thanks, Paul.
I think of all the instructors I've seen, Paul does the best job of visualizing what he's explaining.
I understand impact is after, how do I avoid my club face not closing fast enough on my longer clubs. Thats whats killing my long game. Im not consistent with them, its either a straight with a slight draw, which I love to see, or a bad slice, which I really hate.
Your tone is literally that of a parent who’s frustrated at their kid because they suck 😂😂😂 but your videos are very informative.
I just threw my bag out, preparing to move to a new location. I wish I had known this detail with proper placement. I once bent a shaft, hitting the bag too hard due to using it improperly.
Wow, I didn’t realize it should be two feet after the ball!
