I hit a good drive to start my round only to walk up to this. I'm wondering 1) what the rule is here—can I move my ball to the left to get a better angle? and 2) if I hit the backhoe, who pays for the damage?

I was by myself and no I'm not a serious golfer but I just hit it and prayed to the 60° gods, but now I'm curious what my options were.

    Swing away and don’t worry

Aim for the excavator and you’ll never hit it.

I’m not super up on the rules of golf, but I’m pretty sure it’s mobile and not part of the course.

Thus you’re allowed to hop in and move it so that it’s not in the way of your shot.

    🙂

Let’s be honest after a drive like that you’re just going to chili dip that 60 like the rest of us and it won’t matter 😆

Wait a minute – I’m new at this, but is there an expectation that if someone leaves a backhoe on the course right near the hole and you hit it, you’re on the hook for damages?

Seems to me that if I’m paying to play a round of golf and someone leaves potentially sensitive property in the line of fire, that would be on them, but I’m not familiar with the etiquette/rules here.

As always… Swing hard in case you hit it.

You know what to do my son. Blade and she’ll ricochet right down onto the green

Bounce it off the roof of the excavator onto the green, easy peasy.

Aim at the second large pine tree/middle of the green with a cut. Easy peezy.

  13. The rules would allow you to move your ball 1 club length (at a time) no closer to the hole until the object is not in your path.

Free soda pop if you get it in the bucket.

what sadistic greenskeeper put the flag behind the excavator that morning?

Blade one at the excavator…let the shattering glass slow the ball down, and let it nuzzle up to the cup. Tap in bird!

Live every young boys dream and try and move dirt form the sand trap to another location lol

You’re not going to hurt that backhoe without a howitzer. I can also guarantee it’s not parked on the green, so in no way will it impede a decent shot. Play just left of the bunker and settle far par if you have to, but in no way are you allowed a drop, or to improve you lie.

I’d have just taken my shot like it wasn’t there… if I hit it like I intended, it would have cleared it and landed on the green behind the Deere. If I came up short, it’s coming in at a downward angle, and the glass is all safe anyway. You’re not hurting the roof with a golf ball, and the hood is just gonna make a lot of noise – it’ll be fine.

    So…how’d you play it?

High shot over the shovel. Easy peasy.
