FRIPP ISLAND, S.C. – The Gardner-Webb men’s golf team brought home a win in the Fripp Island Intercollegiate/Big South Preview following a team combined score of 861 (+9) while sophomore Reed Burton paced the Runnin’ Bulldogs with a tie for 7th after firing a total score of 215 (+2) over three rounds.
Gardner-Webb opened the tournament with a 1-under, 283 before firing a score of 293 (+9) in round two. The Dawgs concluded the event with a solid team score of 285 (+2).
Burton was stellar for Gardner-Webb, opening play with a 72 (+1) followed by a 75 (+4) in round two. However, his best round came over the final 18 where he fired a low round of 68 (-3).
Freshman Jude Carper continued his great start to his collegiate career after earning a top 10 finish with a three-day total of 216 (+3). Carper began his tournament with a bang, carding a tournament-low 67 (-4) before following that up with rounds of 79 (+8) and 70 (-1).
Senior teammate Bradley Davis Jr. matched Carper with the 3-over, 216 after firing rounds of 75 (+4), 68 (-3), and 73 (+2). This marks the first top 10 finish of the season for Davis Jr.
Senior Jack Boyer put together a consistent 54 holes for Gardner-Webb after shooting even-par, 71 over his first two rounds before concluding the event with a 76 (+5) and tie for 13th place.
Junior Pattrasuth Boonthumrongkit rounded out the top five for GWU, carding a combined total of 227 (+14). Maddox Whittington, Connor Key, and Brandon Heffner also participated in the event as individuals.
The Runnin’ Bulldogs outlasted Charleston Southern who finished runner-up with a team combined score of 863 (+11). Presbyterian’s Jeep Patrick took home individual medalist honors with a 54-hole total of 207 (-6).
The Fripp Island Intercollegiate wraps up the fall portion of the schedule as Gardner-Webb returns to the links on February 16-17, traveling to Hilton Head, S.C. to participate in the Wexford Invitational hosted by East Carolina.
