Today we’re in the tour van testing players irons head-to-head. I’m Drew Mahold, Second Swing Golf, joined by Kevin Craft in the Second Swing Minnotonka Tour Van. New players irons released in the December of 2025. Callaway Apex AI50, kind of the players addition to the Apex AI family. and the new Ping I240, the next, I guess, generation of these these I irons that have been so good over the years. I210, which I played for a long time, fantastic. I230 has been great and now I240 is the next iteration of that iron. So, you’ve got I240 in your hand, Kevin. Tell me about what you see there and if you’ve done any testing with it at all. So, I haven’t done much. I’ve hit a few shots with it. Um, you know, it looks like a ping iron. It feels like a ping iron. What I saw, it performed like a ping iron. Um, I actually really like the the new look of this. I know that there’s been a little bit of discussion about the back badging. I actually like it. I think it’s very sleek, very good. Um, I’ve been a huge fan of the Iirs all through, you know, 210, 230 to now this one. Um, just really, really good irons and I’m I’m glad to see the newest iteration. Yeah, there’s a little bit of something that reminds me of the old S55s with with this iron. just that that color on the back. You’ve got a little bit of red there on the scripting of the I240 logo. So, that kind of brings me back to that, which is I think a 15-year-old iron or something at this point. Been around a while. Yeah. Um, so, but yeah, I I was I like the clean back look of the i230. Now, again, performance is ultimately what matters, and I’m when I get on the golf course, I’m not going to be picky about what the back of the iron looks like. So, really see it. You’re not going to see it. And it looks great from a dress. The Callaway Apex AI50. Now, um, this is a, you know, again, a smaller club head addition to this Apex AI family. Some distance technologies in there, but shaping wise, I know you like it as a players iron. Yeah. Um, it’s, it’s got that thinner top line that the Apex line really needed. Um, so, you know, from a player standpoint, going to be much more appealing. A lot of chrome on this one, right? So, to me, that kind of kicks it back kind of old school. So, I I’m old, so I I kind of like that. Um, one of the ways in which I’m not totally insane is I like that and I like this, too. So, you like them both. I like them both. Yeah. There’s other things you’re picky about, but that’s that’s not that’s not that that finish is not one. So, we’ll test both today and we’ve got the same shaft. This is the modus 105s for Kevin to hit and um we’ll see what Trackman tells us. Cool. So, Kevin Craft, we’re starting with the I240. Mhm. Uh, give me your thoughts on how that looks at a dress. Anything? Um, you know, I mean, you you you said up here at the desk that it looks like a ping iron. Does. So, what does that mean for the for the viewers? Ping’s got a little bit of a unique aesthetic to them and they they kind of always have. Yeah. Um, it just looks like a paying iron and you can identify that pretty much anytime you put one down. So, um, you know, some people might not think it’s a positive. I think it’s really good. I I like the way this iron looks. It’s really clean looking from the top. That top line, beautifully done. You know, they they round them so nicely now that they can have actually what is a little thicker top line and it does not look like it. Yeah, it’s not it’s not crazy disruptive at all. Um, it looks very similar to the the other ones we’re working with. You know, a good thin players profile, right? I think they’ve done a really good job with this the shape and size of that. Yep. That type of iron I210, I230 and I240 where they’re not trying to make it this razor thin muscle back, right? Because it is supposed to have a little bit of help in there. Exactly. But they do it in a way that’s really balanced, I would say, in terms of the size of it. Yeah. And I love the white line on the bottom groove. I I think that’s a you know from a you know setup standpoint it actually does really help you figure out where your golf club is aimed you know that’s a that’s a good thing I played I210 it was the same thing and it’s nice to you get lined up and if you and truly there are a lot of golfers that struggle just with alignment and lining up at the right spot pointing the club face at the target um and this can help with that in a big way can also help identify if you need to clean your golf clubs because if you can’t see the white line then it’s actually it it is nice because um it it kind of forces you to keep your club face as clean. Yeah. Um because if that groove is you can’t see that it’s white, then you probably should clean it off. Probably should. Yeah. Yeah. There’s there’s some benefits to having clean fresh the iron or wedge performs as it should. Yeah. When they’re clean. But okay. Okay. I 240s. Let’s do some swinging here. Yep. Do you have any expectation on where we’ll land in terms of any of these numbers, spin, carry? So, I mean, I’ I’ve only hit this a few times. Um, been very busy. So, um, I expect a little more spin out of this maybe than a couple of the others. Yeah. Than like the Apex. Yeah. It’s been, you know, I would expect mid to upper fives with this club. Okay. Um, and we will have I mean there is more loft on this one than there is. Yeah. 15. So that probably will be part of the the differences we see. Sure. I’m working so hard to not hit that shot. See, you think that I mean you I can tell by just your feedback that that felt awful and super thin, but it’s not that much shorter. Yeah, but this is the shot I’ve been hitting for like the last 15 months and it’s driving me nuts. Hit another one right now. That’s better. You know, I went and got a lesson so that I would I could figure out why I’m just not where I should be. And so, this is what I’m working on is trying not to get it in the heel and see if I can leave the bottom two grooves alone. We got some more speed on that one. So I imagine that was not too far. More solid strike. Yeah, that had to be pretty good. That was okay. High launch angle on that one. Yeah, this is the thing about, you know, working through lessons is, you know, it takes it takes time and it takes reps. I mean, this is what I’m working on is not something that’s particularly fun. We are filming a lot of content today. Yeah. A lot of swings you’re gonna get. Yeah. It’s good. I mean, this this can only help me. We’re seeing a very similar golf shot every time here. That’s good. The average spin at this current moment is exactly 6,000. Oh, that’s now Now I’m under pressure. Now I got to try. If you don’t get exactly 6,000 here, you got problems. Oh, too much spin. Too much. Sorry to destroy our perfect 6,000 there. No, we’re fine. All right. All right. This is good. All right. So, we saw some things from I240 that I think are going to differ itself or differentiate itself quite a bit from the AI50. So, disperse is nice. Look at that. We got a nice little chunk of golf shots out there. I know you like to see the ball turn over a little bit more, but that’s consistency that you can work with, uh, for sure. Now, in terms of the averages here, just over 6,000 spin, 166.7 on the carry, 173 total landing angle at 50. Um, we had a you varied a little bit in terms of the uh, you know, the impact location. We had a couple thin ones like here and here. Um, but everything else was pretty good right towards the center. Maybe a hair under the equator. Yeah. Um, but nonetheless, I like how consistent that all was, right? I mean, even the thin shots only lost a couple of yards of carry versus, you know, five, six, seven, or eight. This might be my iron. Yeah. I mean, you It’s It’s giving you the same golf shot every time. I’m going to continue to live a groove low, you know, not losing more than a couple yards of distance would be helpful. Yeah. I mean, again, this the shortest carry distance was 163.4 four here and the large the the longest was 170 and most of the shots were in there the 167 166 range. So to see that I think is really good where you know you know pretty much regardless of how you hit this club it’s going to go in that 8 yard window of carry distance. If you got an eight yard window of carry distance you’re doing pretty good. Yeah that’s that’s pretty good stuff from the I240 there. So all right 150 do it. Okay. Okay. So, how much different does the A150 look to the I240? So, I mean it looks a it looks a bit different. Um the aesthetic just just in the chrome it looks a little bit different. Um top line looks very thin. Looks solid. Looks good. Nice players club. Not super small. Not not particularly big. Um, you know, shapewise I I maybe defer a little bit more to the ping just because because of me. Um, but yeah, I mean it looks looks good. Yeah. Let’s see uh what the the golf shots tell us here. Again, stronger loft with this one. So, probably more distance and lower spin just because a little more ball speed and a little less spin. Yeah, another fast one. That one was clean. I can say that one was definitely clean. Yeah, that’s just over 5,000 spin there. All right, we’re going to see some pretty stark differences here. Spin is way lower so far. It’s way faster. Could help that I’m actually hitting the center of the golf club with this one. How about that? Rinse and repeat right now with these golf swings. Nice. We just talked about carry yardage, consistency. Yeah. Hello. How’s this club feel? I mean, you’re hitting the same golf shot every time. I mean, it feels good. It feels very responsive. Yeah. I can tell immediately where this ball is coming off the face. Um, most players are going to want that. Yeah. So, you know, some of the some of the clubs these days are designed to just be forgiving all over the face and you don’t maybe get as much feedback. This is not that golf club. This is really this is your players club. You’re going to get a lot of feedback off this. Okay. So that’s what’s fascinating here is we almost have this is almost like hitting a 6 iron and a 7 iron. And the loft difference I think we’ve come up with was is two degrees. Two degrees. The 33 with the i240 31 with the AI150. Would you expect two degrees of loft to make this much a difference? No. No. Okay. I thought that might be the answer. So and again there was a little bit of a jump in club speed about a mile an hour. But what we see is, and I think that’s just because you were hitting the AI150 so good, you’re just like, I did get on a run of good swings with this. So, yeah. So, we’ll talk about that in a second, but a,000 RPM difference. Yeah. In the spin. Super consistent spin rates, too, which is both clubs. Really good. Yeah. Yeah. Um, and the carry was a four. Yeah. We’re talking about a sixiron and a seven iron essentially here. 13 and 12 yards. So you really you’re So realistic head on it is a six versus So realistically this is like you would expect this from maybe a four degree loft difference. Yeah. And not a both two seven irons that are two degrees apart. Yeah. So there’s a lot of speed packed into the AI50 and low speed. So good news though is if we look at landing angle, we’re all the way up 49°, right? I want that landing angle to be as steep as possible. Yeah. So even though you know 5100’s a little on the lower side for a player with that with the trajectory we’re getting 108 feet in the air still getting a good landing angle. Yeah, it it launches about plenty high. Talking about dispersion again, this these are both really really good patterns to I mean, you know, again, and talking about carry distance window, we’ve talked about the I240 with the AI50. Let’s see if we can bring up the map here and we can I mean, we can figure it out, but we had the shortest one was 177, longest one was 180. Well, we got 181.7. So, basically a 5 yard window. That’s That’s really good. Pretty good. That’s really good. Yeah. So, I mean, I don’t know what what else there really is to take away here. Basically, if you need if you’re still looking for distance in this category and maybe need a little bit lower spin rate, maybe you’re the type that kind of cuts across it a little bit, you’re showing a lot of loft, that impact, that thing goes really high and spinny. AI-150 is a players club that can help mitigate a lot of those issues. Whereas I240, if you already hit it plenty far, you generate u not a ton of spin, you maybe compress the ball quite a bit, maybe that can help with a little bit more height and spin. And they’re both really consistent. Yeah, this club is growing on me. Uh that series of swings was was really good. Yeah, I apologize to the Ping for not hitting it quite as well as I hit this one, but um yeah, they’re they’re both excellent golf clubs. Excellent golf club. Yeah. So, go get fit. If you’re in, you know, you’re looking for new irons, these are both going to be awesome. If you are a player that likes a a kind of a compact look, you need some some help and some forgiveness, some distance, both of these are really, really good. So, Kevin, thanks for hitting the shots, giving your insight. This is a really good one. Good. [Music]

You've tested the i240 before …against Titleist T100 and T150.
On the back of your T250 Launch Spec review, I went for fitting expecting to buy that club as my club speed is 70mph and was struggling to launch and stop my Rogue ST Max OSs.
I came out of the fitting having ordered a set of i240s …..it was a little better than the T250* in all departments – steeper launch and descent , more height , more spin , more distance and straighter with less dispersion
Need to test distance vs distance. By that I mean golf isn't a club vs club game. On a par 3 it doesn't say this is a 7i par 3. It'll say it's a 170 par 3. So would be really good to see both clubs hit to the target distance. You'd need an 8i in the apex, so shorter and easier to hit than the Ping. I hate seeing tests where they just say it gos further because its stinger lofted / spins less blah blah blah. The real test is what club you need to hit the distance. I'd rather hit 8i in than a 7i or 6i.
Krafty has a fabulous golf swing.
Not a fair fight one is players club (ping) one is a players distance (Callaway). Compare the i530s and Ai150 and then you have a fair fight.
