Chris Meers Orlando fly casting lessons how do you decide which side you should put the handle on your fly fishing reel they all come out of the box with the handle designed to be on the left they can all be adjusted by taking the spool off flipping the bearing around putting the line back the other direction you can put it on the right as a right-handed angler if I’m fishing for big fish especially in salt water I prefer to cast with my right hook the fish switch hands turn with my dominant hand because I can keep up pick up a lot more line than I can by turning with my left hand if you’re just simply stripping fish in and you’re rarely having to crank them in on the Reel and when you do you’re not having to turn super fast I’d probably just leave it where it is but if you’re going to fish big fish think about switching it around use your dominant hand
