This year, there have been a number of rumors surrounding LIV Golf and its enrollment of star players. Those rumors being, who will stay and who will go? The first wave of players are seeing their contracts on the verge of expiring, and with LIV Golf’s standing in the world, fans are wondering if there is going to be an exodus of players. However, there are a few who have confirmed that they will be staying, and that includes Patrick Reed.
Patrick Reed’s Time On LIV
Reed was a part of that first wave of LIV sign-ups back when the league was making its debut in 2022. He is also on Dustin Johnson’s team, the 4Aces, and he also confirmed that he was staying with LIV recently. Reed hasn’t entirely stuck to LIV Golf. Like other players, he earns points in the DP World Tour and the Asian Tour. This helps keep him in the OWGR top 50, as well as maintaining his presence in the majors.
Reed On Staying With LIV
The news emerged during what feels like a transitional period for LIV. As stated before, a lot of contracts are due to expire and need to be re-signed to keep the players on. This subject emerged during an interview Patrick Reed had with Bunkered. A larger part of the interview happened to be about US fan behavior during the Ryder Cup. When asked about his LIV contract, Reed gave the following answer.
“Right now, we’re in the process of working with them and re-signing,” Reed said. “I really enjoy being on LIV. I feel like it’s a great place to play, and it’s an awesome new format. I love having that team aspect of it. It’s a place I feel like I’d love to stay, and my whole dream has always been to be a worldwide player, try to grow the game worldwide, and the only way you’re going to do that is by playing worldwide. I feel like being a part of LIV definitely allows me to have that type of schedule to be able to play around the world and touch different parts of basically every edge of the earth. It’s fun.”
Reed was asked if there was a path for him to play on the PGA Tour again, and he responded by saying that they should just let the golfers play and battle it out. That’s the path he sees for the reunification of the sport. He also says that everyone needs to “let their ego down.” Reed does have some confidence in the new CEO’s of both leagues, believing that they could work together to make things more amicable between the leagues.
LIV Golf And New Contracts
Patrick Reed is not alone in his contract renewal. Most of the star players on LIV Golf have confirmed that they will be renewing their contracts. Much to the dismay of many fans, the dissolution of LIV Golf won’t be from a mass resignation of players. At least not in the near future. Players like Reed are happy where they are, and they plan on staying for a bit longer.
