Royal Burkale 1969. The RDER Cup hung in the balance. After three days of hard-fought matches, it all came down to the final singles pairing. Jack Nicholas for the United States, Tony Jacqueline for Great Britain. The two giants of the game stood on the 18th green. Nicholas had just hold his putt, leaving Jacqueline with a short one to tie the match and tie the Rider Cup. The pressure was immense. miss it and America would take the cup. Make it and history would be written. The first tie in Ryder Cup history. But before Jacqueline could even address his ball, Nicholas stepped forward, reached down, and picked up Jacquine’s marker. He looked him in the eye and said, “I didn’t think you’d miss it, Tony, but I wasn’t going to give you the chance.” With that simple act, Nicholas conceded the put.
