[Music] what I did there was really make a pit shot unbelievably simple and reliable the thing is it’s an easy golf shot what we have here the problem is we often try and just do too much it’s just a mini golf swing there’s hardly any adjustments that you need to make to a pitch from a normal iron swing tiny little modifications to the setup yes but we’re not really going to talk about that today I’m going to give you one intention that by doing this specific intention and it’s all about how you’re releasing your hands in the golf club in a way and using the handle is going to give you an unparalleled level of confidence Simplicity and reliability let’s get into it I’m not going to tell you all the things you’re doing wrong I just want to give you something easy to go and use on the course even today with a setup with pitching all I will say is you just want to make sure that you’re balanced you’re standing a bit closer to the ball and a bit more weight on the front side it doesn’t mean your head is way ahead you want about 60% feeling your left foot here nice and sort of braced against it now you might more often than not open yourself up and that is perfectly fine but you do have to ensure that when you pull your left foot back a little bit you’re going to not just open up the shoulders because what happens when you do that it basically causes you to cut across it too much so just practice test out how you strike it what kind of strikes you’re getting when you stand a little bit squarer and almost having a feeling of instead of cutting across it you’re almost going to feel like you’re coming from the inside a little bit more and releasing out that way as if you’re getting a bit of a draw what that is going to do for most of you is help your angle of attack be a bit shallower a bit smoother so it’s going to get you away from chunking into it cuz when we cut across it we get steeper and then it also creates an action where we end up flipping it a bit much which is really what we’re trying to fix today so after we’ve tested out some setup feels we’re going to concentrate on three main things okay three main things to your Technique and I’m going to give you one bonus tip that’s got nothing to do with technique but I guarantee will help you really become consistent even if you’re terrible at pit shots to ensure we’re not over manipulating and doing too much especially with the club head and the wrists I want you to do a little test for me without thinking too much if you want to go and grab a club now fantastic that’ll be even better so pause the video come back grab a sandwich or whatever you’re back good take a your setup and I want you to make a back swing just about arms more or less parallel CU remember even if you go to about parallel momentum will take you a little bit further but here’s the little checkpoint to ensure that you’ve got a good technique that’s going to help your shallow angle of attack we’re going to try and reach the club head without moving my body so if I make my back swing right and I can reach the club head I am too narrow here either here or I have hinged the wrist too much and I can reach so I want to not stretch the arms out I want to form that radius at setup and all I’m doing is maintaining that radius the exactly the same but I’m not hinging my wrist too much and I can’t reach the top of the club that is going to help us with the next two steps because the next two steps are really about delivery and control of the launch so I want you to basically just make a few swings and just see where where you are at there once you start figuring out a bit of awareness of how much less you have to use the the wrists or elbows or whatever you’re trying to do the better you’re going to be now for number two before we continue the lesson I wanted to talk to you about the US Open that’s coming up at Pinehurst it’s going to be an interesting battle it’s a slightly different course that most of them play week in week out so it’s a bit of an open book as far as who’s going to come out on top I have partnered up with DraftKings for a very special offer you can even do DraftKings parlays for an even bigger payout you can combine multiple bets together for the same game as well don’t worry if sports betting is not yet legal in your state you can still join in the fun with this Fantasy games that DraftKings have all you have to do is download the app and you can still win some really fantastic cash prizes all you have to do is download the app today use Code art of simple Golf and place a mini minimum of $5 and you will get these bonus bet advantages and maybe this will be a hole-in-one for you before we continue I want you to let me know if you did grab a club and try that out because I’d be intrigued to see how many of you could in fact actually reach the club head because even if you just did that alone it’s going to help the other facets that we’re going to cover without even talking about them but I want you to know them and apply them as well number two this is about how we move the club back all right A lot of times we are dragging the wrists too much here trying to get spin trying to so hard either to get the ball up in the air and we’re dragging the wrist forward leaning back trying to flip it this way or we are just trying to do long swings for a very short golf shot and all of these create variables in how we’re delivering the club if we’ve got the hands too far ahead the club is going to stay open okay then we’re going to end up flipping it so really step two or tip two really ties into number three that if you get three right number two happens but I’m going to cover number two briefly the feel I want you to have is a lot more that as we’re coming into impact we’re trying to deliver the club more or less this is more or less this is just basic intention we’re trying to deliver the club so the the arm the club head are all in a pretty much a straight line a lot more vertical we’re not allowing the club head to pass the hands but as we make our way down I want us to feel that the we’re actually unhinging the wrist we’re having a little bit ofar deviation boring word but that’s what’s happening so we’re allowing that club just to fall and drop a little bit more and what that’s going to do it’s going to create a much more reliable low Point here and this applies to full swings too yes but it’s actually really going to help your pitching because you’ll notice with the bottom of the club we don’t want to be digging in too much right we want the bounce to be helping us even on Pitch shots yes we want the ball first but we want the bounce on the bottom of these bad boys to Glide off the tur to get that interaction to maximize spin without trying to do too much so the way this will work is you’re going to have your intention of winding back but you’re going to feel the weight of the club just fall you’re just going to allow it to fall into the back of the ball okay I’m not just doing it with my hands I’m doing it with my body but I’m allowing them to just drop but the main thing is I’m not allowing them to pass my hands so just rehearse just that slow movement just to here and we can just even practice on a very short pitch shot but it’s just going to be there right allowing it to just drop through now we get on to the most important part which is number three and it’s all about the release to avoid the flipping action to avoid trying to do too much I just want you to have one very simple intention and the first two pieces are going to help this what I want you to do is feel like it’s thumbs down we’re actually feeling like through impact here our thumbs are going to point down and when the thumbs Point down it should mean that shaft is staying down that it’s not too ahead of us this way we’re not flipping through and we’re not too far that way we’re trying I mean you could say thumbs down but I would actually rather you a little bit more this way but that’s why I said number two is important because we don’t want to drag the hands forward because that’s going to be very inconsistent we won’t allow the number two to happen but from there we’re maintaining that thumb action we’re keeping it straight here and we’re rotating through to feel like we’ve got the thumbs down what this does apart from technicality reasons it’s actually just going to give you a nice confident positive through move because we often get focused on hitting here or worried about what’s going on there or what’s happening back here to have something that in ttention getting through and making sure it’s not just our arms right this is the caveat we don’t just want the arms to go through we want to make sure that the pelvis and the core is going to start facing the target but my thumbs are going to point down the body is almost going to beat the hands in the race it’s not going to be the other way around it’s going to feel like that and yes I’m trying to sort of stop here but momentum will take me up to somewhere here depending on the level of shot so I’m going to try and piece all these together but I’m going to go very slowly so it’s slow there okay we’re just working on that technique and it’s going to use that bounce again and again so let’s try one more with a bit more oomph and before we get to the bonus tip as well which is going to make this even easier so you can refine it so L’s hinge on the way back allow it to fall and collect here and keep the thumbs down but I want the body to stay moving that worked out pretty well bit of a down slope here so I didn’t actually adjust myself to match the slope a little bit I caught it a little bit heavy but it still ended up a good result but let’s remember to keep those thumbs pointing down positively accelerate with positivity now the bonus tip is going to make it all easier no matter what distance you have I want you to try and Club up I’ve got a wedge here which is obviously full swing wise way too much Club but what it’s going to do is teach you the type of strike the type of flight that we want so it’s not going to to go too high and it might even feel like a big chip to you but we’re just chipping in this manner so clubbing up is going to make you forget about trying to hit it too hard it’s just going to help you deliver the club in the right manner with a lot of control it’s going to keep that ball flight down it’s going to make sure that you stay controlled so give clubbing up a big try even wedge 9 100 yard whatever give it a try and let me know how you get on and I’ll see you next time

  1. Nice, I noticed some wrist action there. Care to elaborate a bit more in the next video, please? Thanks in advance.

  2. Great video, I remember 1 of my golf coaches teaching me this technique but with feet open, it's an easy shot to play from 100 yards in and saves me so many shots in a round it's unreal. The accuracy I can get out of a pitch shot against a full shot is so much higher.

  3. So easy to watch. I practice in the afternoon. Today will be fun. Thank you.

  4. Thank you so much. I have a decent game. However, I struggle with the short pitch shot range around 50 to 100 yards. I tend to dig in too much. When I can do a full swing wedge I'm OK. But if it's short range and requires a limited swing I struggle.
This video is awesome! THANK YOU!!!

  5. Oh, he said to grab a sand wedge and come right back. I got a ham sandwich 😂
