Patrick Reed recently celebrated Halloween with Paul Casey before he competes in the LINK Hong Kong Open. Although Reed is defending his title at the Hong Kong Golf Club this week, he has not been able to forget what happened in Bethpage Black.

The golfer was not a part of this year’s Ryder Cup, but he kept a close watch of everything that happened in the 45th edition of the biennial golf tournament. Before Reed started playing in the LINK Hong Kong Open, he sat down for an interview with Bunkered. While talking to the reporter, Patrick Reed condemned the actions of the audience at Bethpage.

According to the golfer, as an American, he found the behavior of the NYC crowd “embarrassing”. He further launched a direct jibe at the fans for their actions towards the Team Europe Ryder Cup members. Patrick Reed also labeled golf as a “gentleman’s game” and criticised the heckling that happened at Bethpage. In his statement, Reed said (as quoted by Bunkered):

“The way I heard the fans acted in New York was uncalled for. It’s embarrassing as an American. I mean, you don’t do that. You don’t act the way you did, say the things you say. Stuff like that that needs to be looked at, needs to be checked.”
“It’s supposed to be a gentleman’s game and you go out there and some of the things that people say, it’s just appalling.”

Take a look at the X (previously Twitter) post by NUCLR GOLF about what Reed said in the interview:

🚨🤫🇺🇸 #EMBARASSING — In an exclusive with @bunkeredgolf, Patrick Reed SLAMMED U.S. fans for their behaviour at the Ryder Cup. “The way I heard the fans acted in New York was uncalled for. It’s embarrassing as an American. I mean, you don’t do that. You don’t act the way you

Patrick Reed’s comments on the Bethpage audience came a month since the conclusion of this year’s Ryder Cup. From September 27 to 29, European team members had to battle through yelling, heckles and unruly behavior of the US fans. Robert MacIntyre and Shane Lowry faced heckling, and the latter was even labeled as “Teletubby”. Rory McIlroy had to stop playing due to repeated yelling, and his wife, Erica Stoll, even got hit by a can of beer.

“Would had been a huge asset” – Patrick Reed claims he would have been a good addition to Keegan Bradley’s Ryder Cup team

While talking to Bunkered, Reed also revealed a huge claim regarding himself. The 2018 Masters champ claimed that he would have been a meaningful addition to US Captain Keegan Bradley’s squad. Reed said (as quoted by Bunkered):

“I definitely could have helped out the team. I would had been a huge asset to that team.”

Patrick Reed further revealed having conversations with Bradley, where the latter was very “upfront” with the LIV golfer. The two-time World Golf Championship winner said:

“I had multiple conversations with Keegan, and he was very upfront with me, and I knew it was an uphill battle to make the team, but at the end of the day, he decided to go a different direction. That’s up to the captain…”

For those unaware, Reed has represented the United States in the Ryder Cup thrice till now, including 2016 when the Americans won at Hazeltine National Golf Club. The golfer carded 3.5 points in 5 matches for his team, and secured an overall 3-1-1 score at the end of three days.
