Dominic Foos won the SJM Macao Open today to become the first German to win on the Asian Tour since his illustrious compatriot Bernhard Langer 29 years ago.

He defeated Chinese-Taipei’s Wang Wei-hsuan on the second hole of a sudden-death play-off on the iconic par-five 18th at Macau Golf & Country Club.

Foos drained a 10-foot birdie putt to win after Wang missed his attempt for a four – in what was sixth play-off in the history of the event.

The pair had finished tied on 17 under, with Foos – who started the day six behind overnight leader Sarit Suwannarut from Thailand – shooting a seven-under-par 63, while Wang closed with a 62.

China’s Wenyi Ding carded a 67 to finish solo third, one stroke back, with Sarit shooting a disappointing 73 to finish alone in fourth, four short of the play-off.

Over the closing couple of holes of the Macau Golf and Country Club, it’s still anyone’s game. It’s a past 70 this week, just a touch over 6,700 yds. And the Greens have been rolling beautifully all week long. They’re stimping at 10′ 10. It’s a warm one as it has been all week. Temperatures in the low30s. Pretty humid as well. And what breeze there is is coming out of the northeast. And for Dominic Fouse, it was a turbulent day yesterday. Five bogeies in his round of two under par. Much smoother sailing today. No bogeies on the card and finds his second birdie of the round to move to 12 under par. Hasn’t quite been smooth sailing for Thailand’s situ. The short little par three fourth. And unfortunately, the news wouldn’t get much better. the twotime international series champion. Poor shot from the fairway, leaving him well short of the green pitch up to here. The part that never had a chance. So, backto back bogeies for the tie. Remember those dozen players I mentioned within six? Well, how about two dozen within six right now’s closest pursuer. Good front nines from Chinese Taipe’s We Shan Wang and Dominic Fouse. leave them sharing third with Australian Brett Rankin. So out to the golf course we go and here is Dominic Fouse trying to get within one. The putter is heating up nicely. Backto- back birdies for the German and Wanguan benefiting by the stumble from the overnight leader. Three under par on his round. Make that four under. Right in the thick of things. It’s a course that looks innocuous, but you play it and it’s not. When the conditions get a little unpredictable, makes it even tougher. Combine that with Sunday pressure and that’s what you see in pro golf. Just a little 55 yd pitch. Grabbed a little quicker than Sedanat wanted out to the back nine and the hard charging. Wayan Wang player with a lot to play for. Last week’s winner on the Asian Development Tour, Sarat Vong Chaisit. He’s not in the field for next week’s tournament in the Philippines. A top five finish will do the job here. And that is a vital birdie for Vong Chisit. So to get to 14 under bar we Shan Wang. Yes indeed. He could very well be leading by himself in a couple moments time. Now back to Sarat for a big bogey on seven. Yeah, you don’t see a fist bump with many bogeies. You’ll see one here if he makes it. This would be huge for his mental state right now. Just like that, the tie tumbles to 12 under par. Well, with all sorts of changes up the top of the leaderboard, any number of players can feel like they can prevail today. This is one of them. Jack Thompson. Nicely controlled from the Australian and Irvin Chang as well having a beautiful day just to get to five under par which it does. your clairvoyant Kang great playing from the Malaysian former Came gold medalist to the 10th and Dominic Fouse uh he won’t be able to see where that ball has ended up but he’ll be pleasantly surprised once he gets on the green. Just a little cleanup left for Thompson to take it to 12 under. Fortunately, he’s on the better side of the hole. So, a little bit uphill all the way. But just because of this long distance, just getting that putting speed gauge, that’s the hardest part. Oh, it was tracking. It was looking so good for Wei Sean. Foos playing some great golf today. hitting nice iron shots, giving himself birdie attempts of this length and successful this time. Dominic Foo is making a move to a share of the lead goes the German to 12 and Hong Kong’s Taiichi who finds himself two under for the final round. A birdie look here. Yep. Well done, Sichi. It was a similar shot that he played on the seventh hole. Really opting for the roll out as opposed to getting that high lofted club with a check. A basic routine shot, one that when you’re practicing your short game, you’ll hit a bucket of balls from here. It’s just all about feel. releasing. Keep releasing. Pretty good. And more importantly, keeps it underneath the hole. Sean Ramos to get to within three of the lead. Oh, Shawn Ramos just gets in at the last row. Brilliant birdie. He’s birdied every par three so far today. Look at that. Third shot into the 12 for Dominic Fouse. Unlike we Shen Wang should be able to get some spin on this coming from the short stuff. Beautifully controlled there from the German. Brett Ranken trying to save par to remain one back. That turned right on him. He was not expecting that. There, Dominic Fouse sizing up this Sidewinder for the outright lead at 12. And he’s got it. We Shan Wang on 13. Sizable amount of slope. He’s going to spit this ball to the left. Oh, glorious touch there from the 26y old. Now just off the back left edge on the par 31 14th is where we find Taiichi Co. That one racing on a pretty good line. Great putt for Tahichi Co. with that friendly goal location as Anthony described. You get your T-ball in play on 13, you’re thinking birdie at worst. Dominic Fouse just trying to hit a hard cut off the bunker. Oh dear. My goodness. Has that ended up down the cliff side. Sichi Co in a little spot of bother on 15 through the fairway. And that was always going to be the danger off that severe downhill lie. Oh, you are kidding. Oh, it finishes round the back of the cup and Sonora is going to drop another shot. Now back to 11 and one ding. That’s a really good stroke. He recoiled quickly so I thought he might have missed his line but that was a good stroke. Now playing his third Dominic Fouse after that one quickly started on a good line trying to chase it up the front just skirts the green side trap and he’s given himself a chance to escape unscathed. This is a pretty simple shot generally uphill all the way to the hole. Back to the 13th to check in on Dominic Fouse with his fourth. Little heavyhanded there from the German Fouse. A par on 13. Bravely holds from Dom. Stays tied at the top with Wei Shan Wang. Nothing other than execution to keep this from being real close. Just got a little ahead of it. Good plan there. And he pulled it off. Is that the spark that Wi Ding needs to challenge for the crown. That leaderboard is going to read one ye ding at 14 underpar. Thompson. Oh, well done. Good. Two putt birdie. to get his nose out in front. We Shen Wang for birdie on 15. He’s got another one. Chinese Taipei’s Wei Shan Wang leads by one. He’s putting from the good side of the hole. A little bit of an uphill putt from where he is, although there’s a a decent amount of break from his left. Well rolled by him. That’s pretty good. Yeah. Craftily done from the Queenslander. Now our championship leader with Shan Wang on 16. Definitely played big part for Sar Vonget. Remember, he’s trying to get inside the top five to earn a place in the field next week in Manila. This is for Birdie. And it goes. That moves him into a share of fourth. Brilliant playing from the tie who It’s all about getting the yardage to the front edge of the green. Hopefully, you make a solid contact and you just wait for a decent result. Oh, that qualifies as a decent result. What a time to pull that one out of the bag for Fouse. I being informed by our crack social media team that that is We Shan Wang’s lucky shirt. Will it bring him good fortune here in Macau? Asking for that to turn. Oh boy, what a shot from We Shan Wang on the 72nd hole. He will have that for Eagle to hang 18 under bar in the clubhouse. Just got to make sure he lands the ball just about 4 ft short of the hole. Well done by S. He’s still fighting tooth and nail that he might need something spectacular to catch that man. Well, two birdies and an eagle at 18 would get him to 17. It can be done. And Dominic Booze making the challenge and the clubhouse lead at 18 under the hole. What a brave effort. Neil do no better than 17. Still that is the low round of the week. Started the day seven shots behind Sarit Suanarat. A 62 for Way Shan Wang. Now he can just sit and watch. Wow, that was really impressive sound and an even better looking high just left of the hole. Might need to sit. just finds its way onto the back edge of the green but given the circumstances brilliantly executed shot from Fouse. Now when Ying trying to keep his title charge alive this for birdie on 16 his dad is one of the most animated caddies you will ever see. Brilliant birdie birdie finish for Dominic Fouse. A 63 joins Wei Shan Wang at 17 under par. He has to get this to the hole. No reason in the world to hit it with die speed. Just got to make it. He gave it a run. A mighty fine effort for Wii Ding, but he will have no further part to play in this year’s SJMau Open. Third shot on the second playoff hole. Uh Dominic Fouse. Oh, this is good. Oh my goodness. That would have been a roof raiser for Fouse. As Jerry and Anthony described, that was not the easiest shot in the world. Played it to perfection. And the door is a jar. Dominic Fouse five is the best. We Shan Wang can musters second time of asking in this playoff. Fantastic from Dominic Fouse. A terrific birdie from the bunker on the second extra hole. Dominic Fouse, the champion at the SJM Macau Open. Dominic Fouse had such predigious talent. He still does possess that, you know, youngest ever winner on the challenge to a great success early, but then you go through the struggles as many players do in this maddening game of golf. But hard work pays off and you saw the embodiment of that today. Thanks for watching the Asian Tour on YouTube. Don’t forget to like and subscribe.
