Common problem with lots of golfers is this sort of issue with ball striking. And the majority of ball striking stems from not shifting your weight correctly coming in towards the down swing position. So if we take a look at an example of a recent lesson, we can kind of see initially when the sort of student came in, there was a couple of problems. One, sort of moving off the ball a little bit in the back swing position, but the bigger problem was there was a bit of rotation, but there was no real sort of movement towards the left hand side. So this meant as his arms came down, they’re always going to be coming down behind the golf ball. So we sort of worked on a series of exercises, but the majority of the exercises that we sort of worked around on was based upon the premise of you want to be as far left as you possibly can. So there’s a key thing that I would say here first of all is if you are somebody who is going to start working on linear motion, so movement towards the left hand side, you also want to be making sure that is rotationally done. So meaning it’s this is rotation. I’m rotating to the left. Rotating to the left. This is going to be the key thing. So if you were to place an alignment stick down on the ground and divide yourself, divide yourself into symmetry. So don’t necessarily use it for the ball position. So if you normally have the ball further forward, try to divide yourself in symmetry. And the idea is do a couple of rehearsal swings that when you bring it down in towards this impact position. If you watch my pelvis, see the way I’m turning my pelvis towards the left. And you can notice the way my right hip, see, is to the left of the stick. And one of the drills I do with all online students as well is what I class as a Y toy drill. And that just basically means we take it back to sort of hip high. And even from a very short swing, I’m still encouraging students to move through the ball like I’ve demonstrated there. It’s a simple drill. It’s very effective. I’ll see you in the video. Lots of golfers when they reach out for help say that they’ve been watching the videos for a long time and they’ve been trying to implement some of the drills and suggestions and things I talk about, but to be honest with you, they’re often working on the wrong thing. To prevent that from happening, why don’t you head over to the website? You can look to book a in-person lesson or an online lesson to ensure that you are moving in the correct direction. See you soon.

Beautiful drill!!! I have to try it
Hi Russell; My issue with hitting through it, like many others is the hit impulse. When I'm hitting wedges, pitches from different distances, from 30 to 70 yards, my swing is great. Very rhythmical & loose but as soon as I have to fly it 100 yards or more, I swing harder & faster. Nothing like my smooth wedges & it's very frustrating. Is there anything I can do to get rid of the hit impulse? Thanks.
I’m going to beat that all fashion 1 iron and if I can hit that I can everything!
