If you’ve spent any decent amount of time playing golf, you likely won’t be a stranger to the rarefied, distinctly exclusive world of Japanese golf clubs.
A segment of the market that often prioritises exclusivity even over pure performance, Japanese equipment manufacturers have become cult heroes in the east over the decades, with brands like Honma and XXIO gaining notoriety both in Asia and beyond for their premium air and often wild price tags.
Even by their standards, however, Honma’s latest collaboration with West Coast apparel heavyweight Malbon Golf pushes golf equipment into even more luxurious territory.
Comprising apparel, equipment and accessories, the Malbon x Honma collection is, according to the latter brand, “Designed for golfers who appreciate exclusivity and craftsmanship,” and have extremely deep pockets. Headlining the collection is a pair of complete golf package sets. One, the Performance line, is priced at $5,300, while the other ‘Premium’ set is on sale for $20,000. Yes, you read that right.

The collections employ differing colour schemes to best reflect the history and attitude of both brands. The premium set is, in typical Honma fashion, dressed in black and glittering gold (or Sumi and Tonoko if you want to get specific), while the Performance set channels Malbon’s more youthful energy with lashings of dark emerald green (Midori).
A women’s set is also available as part of the collection, decked out in a pretty Sakura pink and gold colour scheme.
All three collections are adorned with a fun fusion of Malbon and Honma’s respective mascots, Buckets the golf ball and Honma’s iconic mole, while the Honma’s trademark logo also gets a twist with the addition of Malbon’s now iconic scrawly ‘M’ monogram.
The collection also naturally draws on Malbon’s prowess in the apparel and accessory space, with ball cases, hats, towels and bags all dressed in premium materials with and presented in a sleek colour pallete of muted green, cream, pink and khaki.
“Partnering with Honma felt like a seamless fit,” said Stephen and Erica Malbon, co-founders of Malbon. “Our shared commitment to precision and compelling design drives this collaboration, reflected in a curated collection of clubs and accessories for our player.”
