I saw Sergio Garcia and a few other liv players attempting this and Sergio (who was never known for his putting ability) was really struggling with it so I decided to give it a try
.
It’s actually not as difficult to set up as you might think but it does take a little longer than your average tee drill
.
Once you have all of the tees in position it does work a treat for practicing your pace control and start line. If just one of those things is even slightly off from perfect then it will hit one of the tees along the way and won’t make it to the hole (unless you get a lucky deflection)
.
This is great practice for learning the perfect putt as some putts that might hit a tee would normally go in so it teaches you to be more precise and like with a lot of training drills and aids it’s about ‘aim small, miss small’
.
It’s actually quite addictive to do which is always a good sign of a drill, one that you want to do over and over because you feel like you get a sense of accomplishment each time that you complete it
.
Things like this are great for people that don’t typically enjoy practicing putting as it gives u a challenge and can make putting fun to do
.
I personally wish there was things like this that I could do on the range but challenges just don’t hit the same for me with any other part of the game other than putting
.
I’ve realised tonight, doing this drill that watching the ball go into the hole I’m sure releases dopamine 😂 has anyone else ever thought that? the same way I suppose some people might get that same hit off hitting 300 + yard drives
.
If you can get that feeling with any type of practice that you do then it will make you want to practice more and makes it more rewarding then just aimlessly putting into a hole or hitting a shot on the range and you’ll soon notice the difference in your game
.
Wasn’t planning on going off on a tangent quite as much as that but there you go 🤣
