let’s be honest hitting long irons is tough and for most of you out there there is zero point in having a long iron in your bag so let’s get rid of that and let’s bring in a fairway wood or a hybrid now in my hands here I have a fivewood and this has become my new best friend so let’s start this video off by me hitting a side bys side comparison of a 4 and a fivewood so as you can see the for rine even though it has more Loft than my fivewood flies lower it is a lot harder for me to get that ball Airborne now the reason for this is because the fivewood has a lot of technology in it to where it’s dragged the center of gravity back so you can launch that ball higher basically this club is so much easier to launch higher now if I grab my hybrid it is exactly the same concept the technology in here allows me to launch the ball higher so let’s start off by running through a key concept the first key concept is whenever we are hitting a hybrid or a fairway wood that we must hit down on the golf ball we must have a descending blow and the second key concept that goes hand inh hand with that is we want to strike the Fairway Woods higher in the face exactly the same principle with a hybrid and the reason for this is because of something called Bulan roll technology essentially this is a 18° fivewood it is 18° in the middle of the face because of the Bulan rolls if I hit it higher it’ll actually launch higher because it’s more like 20° of lot and if I hit it lower in the face it’ll launch lower because it’s more like 16 or 15° of Loft so if you think about it this way if I have good impact conditions and I’m hitting down on the golf ball my strike location will be higher and the ball will launch higher so with that in mind now let’s run through the correct setup position to make this easier we’re going to run through four things keep it super short super brief now this is a longer shaft that therefore means it’s going to swing faster around our body so we need a slight wider stance than your conventional iron shot number two because we’re trying to hit down on the ball slightly we want to favor just a little bit more pressure on the lead leg this helps us shift our low Point past the ball number three because my trail hand is lower on the club than my lead hand I need to have a little bit of side Bend away from the target this also promotes a better impact position and number four the most important one of them all ball position now when I say we’re trying to hit down we’re not trying to swing over the top and hit down we are trying to naturally hit down the way we do this is by positioning the ball in the correct spot if the lowest point of my swing is roughly underneath my left armpit or left shoulder joint I need to position the ball back of that in order to catch it on the downward descent easiest place to position it with a fairway wood or a hybrid is underneath your lead ear if you do those two things you’re going to find your strikes are going to become a lot better and from there you’re going to hit better shots let’s see what this looks like absolutely ripped little draw there this is going to make hdden greens on par 3s par fours and Par fivs so much easier but let’s not stop there let’s now give you a simple swing thought to help you be able to hit down on the ball generate that great strike location so you can hit those awesome goal shots now I have two for you they’re both going to achieve the same outcome try both of them see which one you prefer how many times have you been told to sweep your Fairy Woods and hybrids well often when you do this you’ll hit it lower in the face because you’re trying to hit up on the ball what we need to do is Imagine we’re stood in a swimming pool if I was stood in the swimming pool and I wanted to skim my hand across the water I would actually have to move my hand downwards let it connect with the water and when it does that it’s then going to Ricochet across the water it’s the same thing in Gulf but instead of my palm we are using the sole of the club so what I want you to imagine as you come down you’re going to throw the sole of the club down to the ground so it can do what it’s done there it can hit the ground and glide across so you want to be feeling like you can thud the ground with the sole of the club so if I do that on just a couple of little sort of half swings here you can see how I’m able to take a little bit of a diver but really I’m still hitting down on the ball now the other thing that this is going to do is if I’m thudding the ground I’m also going to be releasing my angles down two key benefits to this number one Club head speed it’s going to give you more speed think about releasing a whip I’ve got to get the speed into the club head I’m not just going to hold my angles I need to release it if I’m trying to thud the ground I am releasing my angles downwards that’s a speed move number two is it’s going to help me produce the correct Loft I’m not going to be delofting it too much and my hands are not going to be back because it’s very hard to thud the ground with my hands back so overall it’s going to give you more speed better launch better strike win-win win across the board let me hit a shot see what it looks like right here so this second swing thought is very similar but focusing on a different part of the body so rather than putting our attention on the club head we’re going to be putting our attention on the hands now the number one issue when it comes to strike and I see this every day on the lesson team is when I bring an amiter with a fairywood or a hybrid down too sharp parallel to the ground in the downswing their hands are too high and behind them try and hit down on the ball from here it’s very hard and it’s very awkward to do so now if I said to you right go to the top of your back swing and come down and have your hands low in front of the middle part of your right thigh what would you then feel like oh well it’s going to be super easy to hit down uh develop a tiny bit of sharling and get that that good strike so what I want you to feel like is as you go to the top you come down you get your hands nice and low from there you can then just push on through and you’re going to find you get a great strike great way of doing this is just a little pump drill just while you’re learning it swing to the top come down hands are nice and low little pump and a hit and you can see there but maybe I took a little bit too much of a divot but I’m definitely not coming up and topping it it’s a great way of OV exaggerating the feeling of having that slight downward strike so if I now do that when I’m actually hitting a goal shot my key words phrase that I’m going to say in my head is low hands two words low hands really simple if I hit a shot right now with that thought in my head let’s see what outcome I generate a beautiful high shot right there that is awesome that’s exactly what I want to see again this is going to make your life so much easier in terms of launching that ball nice and high so you have two options when it comes to those swing thoughts but what happens when we’re hitting this off a te well let’s run through it so here’s what I want you to do I want you to grab the ball just like so with your index finger and your middle finger either side of the T now when you press this down into the ground you want to feel like you go all the way to the point where there’s some pressure put on your fingers as it gets wedged in between the ball and the ground this is a good te height it’s slightly off the ground now from here how do we keep this simple do exactly the same swing this is going to allow you to naturally hit the ball higher in the face you’re going to see a higher launch with lower spin because when you hit it higher in the face it spins a little bit less launches a little bit higher you might see a little bit of a jump in terms of distance which is a great thing this is awesome for hitting on a par three or just getting it in the Fairway on a PA for so let me hit this down there for you keep it everything else exactly the same let’s give this one a rip and as you can see a nice draw there super forgiving golf club cuz I hit that slightly out of the toe but overall if you get these clubs in your hands a hybrid of Fairway Wood is going to make life so much easier off the Fairway and off the tea so in my opinion if you’re somebody like a senior golfer or a golfer who just has a slower Club head speed or just struggles to hit long IR then you need to grab a hybrid or a fairway wood get fit for them and it will make a massive difference if you have any questions about today’s video please drop it down in 1. "Low hands" is a great swing thought. It was working working with the fairway woods somewhat, but still some work to be done. But to my surprise when I started hitting wedges with that thought, I hit them higher, farther and crisper than had in years! Thanks!

  2. Your video's are excellent. I'm going to start using both your iron set up and the hybrid set up's to practice. Hopefully this will help me be more consistent on my shots during my rounds. ⛳️😎

  3. Very helpful video. Before watching this, I watched your video on hitting irons, centered around the concept of low point of the swing arc. In that video, the thought is to swing as though the ball is sitting a couple of inches past where it actually is. This seems to work well for me, allowing me to compress the ball much better. Watching your videos about the hybrids and fairway woods, which also require hitting down on, I thought you would have suggested the same swing thought as you did with the irons. Can it not apply to hybrids and fairway woods? Thanks.

  4. Hi, I’ve been watching on YouTube David Leadbetter’s “A” swing. What’s your view on this type of swing? I’m a 77 year old who hasn’t played for 12 years. My best handicap was 4.
    Regards Tim

This is NOT your typical golf school.
No short game. No fluff. Just 2 days of pure full swing transformation — built around one goal: improving your impact and ball flight.

    The real fundamentals?
    ✅ Low point control
    ✅ Clubface control
    ✅ Swing direction control

Master those and your game changes forever.

Developed by myself and Trevor Salzman, this system took over a year to build and it works.

  6. This lesson was one of the best I have seen for hybrids and fairway woods. Your approach is so simple to remember and was incredibly helpful. I used this approach with my hybrids on the golf course yesterday and was hitting them beautifully long and straight. I have struggled with both hybrids and fairway woods for a while now,and was frustrated. I can finally hit them both with confidence. Thank you so much Giles !

  7. Great video tips on woods. I totally lost confidence on my iron swings and distance.. Many times I either duff or slice the shot. I used to be quite good with the irons many years ago but now my irons are pathetic and embarrassing. Please help… .

  8. Low hands works a charm with all clubs. Been using it for years, glad you mentioned it. Great video!

  9. what helps me with my woods is when im going for my backswing i drag the club a little and having my hands lower on my setup. one of my friends showed me this way a couple of years ago and it has helped me hit it consistently 260.

  10. This was very helpful. I'm 72 and my swing speed with my woods is in the high eighties and the hybrids are closer to the mid to low eighties, so these swing thoughts will work very well for me. Thanks

  11. Ball position? Brother they are stuck to my leg 80% of the time.

Also great tutorial, great before a weekend of smacking the dotted ball

  12. i probably need to come back to this video several times to check on the basics, as I find the irons much easier, even the long irons vs hybrids or woods.

  13. I feel like hitting long irons is very similar to how you how you hit hybrids and woods. hybrids/woods are just more forgiving the only difference is the tilt back rather than forward and not having much weight on you front foot.
