A golf course green in Newton Aycliffe which has repeatedly been a target for “deliberate” vandalism has been hit again.

Staff members at Oakleaf Golf Complex have renewed their plea for course users and residents to be vigilant after areas on and off the green, particularly near the school and community centre were damaged.

The Northern Echo previously reported on a spate of vandalism earlier this month, and while the acts of vandalism seemed to improve temporarily, sadly the green has been targeted yet again.

A recent social media post said: “Following our previous post regarding damage on the course, it was hoped that we had seen the last of it, and for a while it appeared that this was the case.

“Unfortunately, our greens staff are regularly finding and repairing, deliberate damage on the greens.

“Again, we are asking course users to be vigilant and report any damage they see on the course.”

Despite the acts of vandalism continuing, staff members have still not identified who is responsible.

No reports or sightings of the vandalism have been made by regular golf users during daylight hours, which suggests the vandalism is happening around dusk when the course is quieter.

A spokesperson from Oakleaf Golf Complex said: “Damage has continued to occur over the recent month, with damage across the course.

“Our greenkeeping staff have been vigilant and repair the damage early in the morning before most golfers have encountered the problems, when possible.
