On Thursday, it was announced that Francisco Gavilan Fernandez of the Lindenwood men’s golf team was named Ohio Valley Conference Golfer of the Week.
Gavilan finished the Mo State Intercollegiate in first place, shooting eight-under (205) and took the top spot by two strokes. The Spanish native got off to a fast start, carding a seven-under 64 across the opening 18 holes, his lowest round of the season and the second lowest among all OVC golfers so far this year.
Gavilan led the field in par 3 scoring (2.75) and par 4 scoring (3.91), going six-under on such holes. He also tied for first in the field with 14 birdies across the three-round tournament. So far this season, Gavilan ranks sixth amongst all OVC golfers in scoring average at 71.1
The Lions will return to the course at the Austin Peay Intercollegiate on March 23-24 in Dickson, Tenn.
