In January 2024, Adrien Moranc was crowned the DP World Tour Player of the Year, capping off a breakout season that saw the towering pole claim three victories and cement his place among Europe’s elite. But as 2026 approaches, Moron’s long-standing association with the DP World Tour is set to end, and not by choice. Now a member of the LIIV Golf League, Moranc is one of several players awaiting the outcome of an appeal against fines imposed by the DP World Tour for competing in LIIV events without official releases. Based on precedent, however, the odds are stacked against them. In 2023, an independent arbitration panel upheld the tour’s right to fine and suspend players who breach participation rules, setting a clear standard that now looms over stars like John Rom, and TL Hatton. Like Rahm and Hatton, fulfilled the minimum four event requirement to retain his DP World Tour membership for another year. Others like Sergio Garcia did not, meaning Garcia will once again lose his card despite a determined effort to return and stake a claim for the 2025 RDER Cup. The situation could become even more complicated in 2026 as LIIV Saudi backers plan to stop covering players fines. This means that anyone wishing to maintain dual eligibility will have to pay out of their own pockets. Speaking to Bunkered C OUK at the Hong Kong Open, admitted that his time as a DP World Tour member is nearly up. My membership ends basically in two weeks this year, so I’m not going to resign, he said. I guess I’m only going to play off invites if I get any. It’s a bit strange to be honest. It’s a weird feeling. I just have to kind of accept it. added that he has not been closely following the appeal process and is unaware of when hearing might take place. He also confirmed that he won’t be paying his fines in advance of the ruling. For now, I’ll just see how the situation works out with the tours, he explained. But I’ll focus on LIIV and the International Series as well. I knew what consequences might come when I signed with LIIV. I’m okay with that, but I just think it would be better for everyone if both sides came to peace and work together. It would benefit everyone, myself included. Although he will no longer be a full member, Moranc hopes to remain part of the DP World Tour landscape by playing at least three events next season through sponsor invitations. His clicks GC teammate Richard Bland has opted for a different approach, confirming that he will settle his fines before Eliv stops assisting players at the end of 2025. Meanwhile, team captain Martin Kair has made it clear he won’t rejoin the tour until a Ryder Cup opportunity arises. I’m not going to pick up my European Tour car next year. Kare said hopefully in 2027 a Ryder Cup year. If I feel like I have a chance to make the team, then I’ll rejoin. Otherwise, I’ll stick with LIIV. I still have exemptions for 6 to 8 years from past successes. So, I’ll wait until I feel ready to compete at that level again. Kare Moranc and Bland are among 29 LIIV golf players competing this week at the Hong Kong Open where the winner will pocket $360,000 and earn coveted spots in both the Masters and the Open Championship. For the transition marks the end of a defining chapter, but perhaps not the final one. The 2024 player of the year may be leaving the DP World Tour behind, but his ambition to compete on the world’s biggest stages remains very much alive.
