“Team USA Needs To Take A Look In The Mirror” | 2025 Ryder Cup

Final score says 15 to13. Does that tell the story of this RDER Cup? No, it doesn’t. Because when we look back at the history, this is just going to say 1513. Yeah, but uh look, I I think ultimately it’s a really good question, Rick, because I I think the the United States needs to take a real look in the mirror and and try to we need to develop a plan going forward. We need to develop a program that can be that that we can, you know, develop on and tweak and improve. Um, we need clearer strategies so that the players know that what they’re doing is right and and we just get outpaced in these team competitions. What you saw today is why this is so concerning to American golf fans. It’s not because we lose, it’s because we’re the better team and lose. And so now you start bringing in questions of effort. Like somebody commented last night in our chat, you can’t make somebody care when we were talking about Scotty Sheoffller, you know, like that is just wrong. It’s wrong. He does care, but he’s 0 and4 and it’s like what gives? So that’s why these things come out because it’s a a better team that should win and it doesn’t win. We’ve lost 11 of the last 15 Ryder Cup, 16 Ryder Cups. You know, it’s it’s not like I hope we don’t look at it like they just made all the putts this week, you know, and that’s what happens. It’s like, no, we need to do things differently and it will be, oh, well, it was it was 1513 and we rallied late and that’s what that’s really what we what we should have done. Uh, you know, that that’s that’s what we should have done all week. Everything is fine. No, no, no. Yeah. burn it down and let’s start over. Um I have a thought on who the next captain should be. Okay, not a great one, but um but before I get to that, I just I wanted to also add that um it’s almost like the worst thing that could have happened losing this way. But I also want to give credit to Keegan Bradley who was hired um I I think in all likelihood because of his emotion, right? And the emotion that we saw on Netflix, which is a crazy thing to say, but I really think that’s why he was hired. Uh because he got snubbed last time, so we make him captain this time. And and the reason is because he loves the Ryder Cup so much. It was clear and his passion and energy u his enthusiasm for it was the reason he got this job. His strategy was based on emotion. I think there’s a lot more to it than that and he probably realizes that as well. But the emotion came through and it worked and his players played great for him. So, you know, we can look at all the data that we want to and we will and we will talk about it, but ultimately what Keegan wanted to do ended up working. The things that he said he was going to do ended up working to a degree. It’s just the problem is that it’s just not enough, right? It’s just not enough. I think the details go overlooked quite a bit. Um but yes, yes, this is I I’m very interested to see how this will get spun uh you know in the next four, five, six months how this will be reflected. But I think this was basically a disaster for the United States and a total disaster. Yes, the score will say they lost by two and the envelope was a half of that point and blah blah blah. This was an utter disaster and they have now so so by the time we get to uh a dare matter, the last time that the United States is going to have led after any session is going to be like six years prior to that because they did not lead after any session this year and they did not lead after any session in a row. Yeah. because things are very wrong. Like this is another stretch where we’re gonna lose three in a row again, right? It happens like it’s like a pattern. Three in a row, we win. Oh, great. We lose three in a row. Like Paul Azinger cracks the code. We got the pod system. He’s never a part of the Ryder Cup again. And we lose the next three. and then we form a task force uh and win and then lose the X3. It’s like it’s just in insanity and we need to level up our game. Who who is the who is the captain? Who is the It’s the only guy I can think of that makes sense. Now there could somebody else could come out. They could make they could announce somebody else and I’d say, “Yeah, that’s great.” But the guy that I would I I think our best chance is Brandt Snedker. I know you’d never see that coming. I did not see that coming. I’m going to need to know why. Um well, I have reasons, but let me do this. Okay. Do you think Tiger Woods will be a Ryder Cup captain? I do. Yeah. Okay. Now, this is the real kicker. Should he be? And like I I think most people would say yes. Oh, Tiger’s got to be a captain. Yeah. My my question to that is why. I don’t know. So So right, you asked me, do I think he will be? Yes. I I don’t know why because that’s because that’s what they’ve always been doing. That’s right. That’s the point. He will be the captain because he’s one of the greatest players to ever live, if not the greatest. uh he’s American and great players end up being captains of the RDER Cup, you know, but that doesn’t do anything to help you win the RDER Cups. So, it it’s like this. We put so much into winning the RDER Cup and if it weren’t for this single session today, Keegan Bradley was going to be like and may still be smeared for decisions and which is so unfair to Keegan, right? And and it’d be unfair to Tiger to to rip him for it. There’s just no continuity. So, how is a rook rookie captain supposed to like figure it all out? Uh, it’s a rare thing. What Paul Lasinger did is like a miracle, you know? It’s not what should happen. It’s not the standard. Europe’s totally different story. So, I Why do I say Bran Senker? He’s a vice captain on this team. Hopefully he learns from some of the very clear mistakes that were made. Hopefully he doesn’t say to himself, I don’t care what he says in the public, but hopefully to himself he’s not saying, “Well, they made all the putts.” Right. Uh and he’s also the next he’s next year’s President’s Cup captain. Yes. Right. So now you have this opportunity to say, “Hey, I’d say I’d tell him right now, Brandt. You’re going to be the RDER Cup captain. Start working on this now. You have a President’s Cup that is like this is not to be taken lightly. you are preparing for the RDER Cup in the President’s Cup and you’re going to go you’re going to take that team, run them out against the internationals somewhere in the US. I don’t know where it is. And then you’re going to go over to Ireland right after the next year. Do you want the job? And we got to use this advantage we have. We have a President’s Cup. We play a very against a a good team in the Internationals every year. And that’s crazy. Yeah. They’re like two separate entities. We do this every year. They only do this every two years and they seem better at it than we are. Yeah. We have better players. Like I was looking Rick at the There’s been so much talk about optimal pairings. I’m looking at them and they we’re we have a lot of opportunity to be the favorites in every match. You know, we gave a couple away and forsomes at least. There’s a couple close ones, but it’s like we we have the opportunity to flip the script if we do things right. Um but you just we we give away too much. We we give away something and then there’s a little bit of fortune there on their side and the two combined turns it into 3-1 where in reality the fortune on their side should make it 2-2 at the end of a at the end of a session. That’s kind of the way that I that I look at these mistakes. The 2026 President’s Cup is at Madina, just to put a bow on that conversation.

The boys are back to talk about the Day 3 Sunday of the Ryder Cup!

  1. Always feels like the US wanna make emotional decisions and “statements” rather than critical, data based decisions. I think the perfect example is everyone saying Bryson was far more suited to tee off on the even holes in Foresomes, but because it got the crowd going to see him go for the green he played the odds both days

  2. The only thing yank golfers want to see in an envelope is cash.America is no longer a country its a business.

  3. 12 higher world ranked individuals does not make a better team. That is what Americans don’t get. Europe is a team. America are 12 individuals

  4. Better team ? Did you see how far the USA left their approaches from the hole………they had much longer putts en masse ……give me a break

  5. The comments on teamwork are spot on. Watch any of the post match interviews with the Euro team and they all talk about the joy of playing with the team( "these guys"). Like may nations the UK armed services know soldiers don't fight for a flag or some national symbol (King and Country) but for the guy next to them. They don't want to let them down. The European golfers want to be part of the team and think about it in the 2 years build up. A look through the history books will identify good players who performed out of their skins when part of the team ( Colin Montgomery?) Then there is the history. I would bet many in the last few days will have thought of how much Sevy loved the Ryder Cup and what he gave for it. The USA had brilliant golfers, the best in the world, but somehow they don't have the same attitude or cultural background and playing together , as in the first two days, seems to make them uncomfortable. ( with notable exceptions).

  6. Colin Morikawa is a cancer. Everything about his body language says he could give a shit about this event or others. Ben Griffin getting benched on Saturday was a head scratcher. Scheffler not showing up. Pairings didn't mesh well and Europe making an insane amount of putts.

  7. Just in from Donald (Trump that is). It's all fake news, America won the cup and all fans were well behaved. Meanwhile in the real world……..Worst crowd at a golf event ever. Absolutely classless behaviour from the American fans and the PGA should be ashamed of how they dealt with it. Team USA should be embarrassed too as none of them actually called the fans out on their appalling behaviour. Truly an embarrassment to the game of golf.

  8. Interesting discussion about Tiger. This happened on the Solheim Cup side – the Euros thought Annika would be a slam dunk captain – turns out she wasn't good at it. She wanted her players to prepare and do what she had done as a player, sounds like she was a bit regimented and the players didn't connect at her. Could Tiger inspire – of course, but would the pressure also be too much – very possibly. Someone suggested Justin Leonard – that seems like another option, someone who can devote the time – and we know he'll be paid by the PGA

  9. The USPGA must take all the blame for this loss. It was a catastrophe from start to finish from captain's appointment to offering to pay players and ultimately the organisation on the ground. Disgraceful!!

  10. What trully global team sports does the US excel in as a team? Baseball, American Football, Basketball and Hockey are really just American sports with some other countries acting as talent development.

  11. They had a plan and blueprint for what works. Ask Paul Azinger. Why on earth wouldn’t the PGA continue to use and fine tune his winning formula? Or even ASK HIM FOR ASSISTANCE?!? Pretty terrible to have abandoned his Navy SEAL POD formula.

  12. US was NOT the better team. Europe plays better team match play (16 of 28 points).

They have a huge institutional edge. When they find a good captain they keep him. Past captains and core players remain involved and give input. Continuity and resulting expertise.

US, by contrast, passes the captaincy around. Each starts from scratch and must reinvent the wheel. New captains make mistakes (predictably), lose and get roasted. We don't learn from those mistakes. Keegan a great example. Had never been a vice captain. Was not aware he was a candidate and was blind sided by the call. Now he will take the blame when he was put in a terrible position.

PGA of America is as much to blame as captains or players. They seem more focused on monetizing the event than on winning.

  13. Keegan was an awful choice made out of regret and he got it badly wrong.
All in all it was a total disaster for the USA.
In two years time, will you come early and practice like the Europeans did last week ? Or will you turn up on the Tuesday beforehand like you did in Italy ?
The USA campaigned for the money but don't want to be professional about it.

  14. "We're the better team and lose". The point is that the American team has some of the greatest players in the world, and still loses.Which means it's not the better team.

  15. What happened in paris ? Only 1 🇺🇸 player could be arsed turning up for french open ! J.T and he faired by far the best 🇺🇸 player ! We do more preparation and have more passion for team sports here especially football which all our players played as kids ! But serously i dont like where ryder is going with the fans that was dreadful behaviour worse than a football match 30 years ago . 👍

  16. Quick takes…

15-13 is in the books butlookig at the games on Sunday 8 of the 11 went down the 18th. So it was that close or it could have been a monumental blowout ….20+ points to Europe

Europe built on the learnings fro Whistling Straits (over 4 years ago…) applied them in Rome (a shellacking) and tweaked them for New York (and in effect won the Cup in two days almost)

Europe parachuted Luke Donal in just over 15 months before Rome (LIV implications)… this time around he did full two years … and whilst he was focused on getting it right, US Captain was busy playing …

Unfortunately now its only Europe where the players and caddies recognise that the Ryder Cup is a pinnacle honour… The US don't – they see the prestige (improved revenue exposure) and as an individual … the team ethos actually eludes them

  17. I have never been happier in my life to see the US team lose…only because of the horrible way the US fans acted….but then again..they are Americans …😊

  18. Mentioned several times that the US players are simply better. by what measure….world rankings? Are those not based on PGA Tour and the Majors (3 of which are in the US). All other tours waaaayyyy underweighted. In match play the measure of a player should be their record in that format surely?

  19. The fact that a country who base their selves on patriotism can't beat a continent of counties that hate each other is scandalous
