Lauren Walsh landed the biggest paycheque of her professional career at the weekend but in moving inside the top-10 on the Ladies European Tour Order of Merit she remains on track for another lucrative prize.

Walsh finished 3rd at the Wistron Open in Taiwan to pocket €56,000 and climb from 11th to 10th in the Ladies European Tour Order of Merit.

Walsh had a week to forget at LPGA Qualifying Series a fortnight ago, missing the cut by a distance thus not advancing to Final Qualifying. However, if she can maintain her place in the top-10 on the LET, she will be granted a stay of execution and another bite at the cherry with a spot in LPGA Tour Final Qualifying.

There are just two events remaining in the LET season with the Castlewarden woman set to compet at the Aramco China Championship in Shenzhen next week and the season-ending Race to Mallorca event in Andalucia in late November.

Walsh could also secure crucial spots in two of next year’s major championships with her position in the order of merit putting her within reach of the AIG Women’s Open and Evian Championship.

November is usually seen as a grim month. Golf courses are wet, the clocks are back and the temperatures have dropped. But Walsh has a huge opportunity over the next few weeks as she bids to join Leona Maguire across the Atlantic.

Maguire herself is looking for a rankings boost to end a disappointing season on a high.

After a week off, the Cavan woman’s attention turns to the CME Globe standings. Ranked 53rd ahead of this week’s Maybank Championship in Kuala Lumpur she needs to avoid any hiccups to maintain her top-60 place through to the season-ending Tour Championship in Florida where there is a prize purse of $11m.
