The North Course at Moss Creek Hilton Head in South Carolina has reopened after a renovation by architect John Fought to the layout originally designed by Tom Fazio. Along with the George Fazio-designed South Course, the North is one of two layouts at the private golf community.

Fought, a former PGA Tour player and 1977 U.S. Amateur Champion, rebuilt all the tees and greens to USGA specifications. The greens are new TifEagle Bermuda, zoysia grass was used on shaded tees and Celebration Bermuda is the main fairway grass. A new irrigation system and drainage also were installed in the eight-month renovation. Eight previous bunkers were removed, and three new bunkers were added for strategic and aesthetic value.

“The renovation project of the North Course at Moss Creek honors the Fazio design legacy while also ensuring this wonderful property was utilized to the maximum,” Fought said in a media release announcing completion of the project. “The North Course offers members an all-new experience. The widened fairways may be deceiving, but strategic decisions must be made to score well.”
