BELLEAIR, Florida — Kai Trump, the 18‑year‑old granddaughter of President Donald Trump, has been awarded a sponsor exemption to compete in the upcoming The Annika tournament on the LPGA Tour, scheduled Nov. 13‑16 at Pelican Golf Club in Belleair, Florida.
According to the Associated Press, the high‑school senior from Palm Beach County, Florida, has committed to play collegiate golf on the Miami Hurricanes women’s golf team next year and currently competes in junior events through the American Junior Golf Association (AJGA). She holds a ranking of No. 461 in the AJGA girls standings this year.
The Daily Beast reported that in announcing the exemption, the LPGA said that sponsor invitations are a key tool for spotlighting rising talent and drawing in new audiences and noted Kai’s sizable social media following as one factor in the decision.
“Sponsor invitations are an important way to spotlight emerging talent and bring new attention to our tournaments and the LPGA,” Ricki Lasky, the chief tour business and operations officer at the LPGA told AP. “Kai’s broad following and reach are helping introduce golf to new audiences, especially among younger fans. We’re excited to see her take this next step in her journey.”
People reported Kai calling the opportunity a “dream” and said she looks forward to “meeting and competing against so many of my heroes and mentors in golf as I make my LPGA Tour debut.”
