Nick Kostos and Trysta Krick debate whether Colts star running back Jonathan Taylor can break the mold and become the first RB to win NFL MVP in more than a DECADE. Do you think Taylor can leapfrog the likes of Patrick Mahomes, Drake Maye and Josh Allen to win the award?

Can Colts runningback Jonathan Taylor win NFL most valuable player? Currently 18 to 1 at BetMGM. I just do not think so. Although I love what he’s doing and he’s been an absolute beast. Multiple three touchdown performances from JT. If Saquon one can’t win it with the year that he had last year with the 2000 yard rushing benchmark, then no one’s winning it because that’s outside the quarterback award. Jonathan Taylor, like Greg Jennings back in the day, putting fantasy teams on his back. Just ridiculous performance after ridiculous performance. When we think about MVP and running backs, right. The reason why Saquon didn’t win last year, and I thought he had a chance to win last year, was just that both Josh Allen and Lamar Jackson both had ridiculous seasons and their teams won a million games. So there is a path for Jonathan Taylor to win. And this is not that we think Jonathan Taylor is not the best football player in the league or not the best running back in the league. We talked about that last week. But what you need for Jonathan Taylor to win MVP, first off, he’s got to have way better stats than Daniel Jones. Daniel Jones, his quarterback, has a shorter price than he does. You need Mahomes to take more losses. Josh Allen to take more losses. Drake Maye and the Patriots take some losses. Matthew Stafford and the Rams. Jordan Love and the Green Bay Packers. Hell, even Baker Mayfield and the Tampa Bay Bucs. Not only do you need Taylor, Trysta, to have a sick season. You need these quarterbacks and those teams to lose to prop Jonathan Taylor up. Yeah, it’s not just about like how good Jonathan Taylor could be this year, or even how he ranks up against other running backs. It’s really how he ranks up against the position that we want to give the award to. It’s literally a quarterback award. So you need to be really better than everybody else at your position, but better than everyone else at the quarterback position as well. Which means these quarterbacks need to be suckier. Does it make you mad that we want to give MVP to quarterback even if the best player is a running back or a non quarterback? Yeah, but I’m kind of just used to it now right. Like Adrian Peterson winning it in 2012. Like kind of just I forget about unless I look it up. Ever since really then I’ve never thought a running back could win it. Maybe Christian McCaffrey a few years ago or a couple years ago, I thought maybe Saquon. But like you’re right I think we just want to give it to the QB. There is a path. Mahomes already has three losses. He’s the favorite. Allen’s got a couple losses already. The Patriots have been awesome. But can they keep this up. If the quarterbacks of the teams that are at the top of the league, if they take losses and Taylor keeps going like this, there is a path. But I think, Trysta, and I both feel like not likely for JT MVP.
