Welcome to Wednesday! f you’re walking through Downtown Palm Springs and stop by Ben & Jerry’s at 110 South Palm Canyon Dr., you might be interested to know that every waffle cone you buy through Nov. 4 sends $1 directly to Migrant Justice, a farmworker-led organization working to improve labor conditions on the dairy farms that supply the ice cream. It’s part of the company’s Waffle Lot of Good program and a simple way to support workers’ rights while grabbing a scoop.

Golfers protest steep fee increases at Tahquitz Creek courses
More than a dozen golfers packed Monday’s Parks and Recreation Commission meeting to protest fee increases of up to 73% at the city’s Tahquitz Creek golf courses. They also questioned the calculations used to justify the new rates.
Driving the news: The fee increases, already adopted by the City Council, raise weekday green fees at the Resort Course from $58 to $95 during October through December — a 64% increase. Weekend and holiday rates during peak season will jump from $70 to $121, a 73% increase.
The annual resident discount card required to access reduced rates will increase from $39 to $61, a 56% increase.
Why it matters: Golfers say the changes make public play less accessible for residents who cannot afford private country club memberships and pointed to the deals offered by other valley cities.
La Quinta residents, for example, pay $50 annually for a card allowing them to play Desert Willow for $52 and Silver Rock for $49.
Zoom in: One speaker suggested consultants may have incorrectly included debt service in their fee analysis, requesting someone review whether the consultants made calculation errors.
What they’re saying: Golfers warned of economic consequences, with some threatening to take their business elsewhere. One speaker said members of the men’s club were already discussing moving one day of play involving 140 players.
What’s next: The commission chair proposed forming an ad hoc committee to give golfers a voice in future decisions, similar to committees established for pickleball and the dog park. Two commissioners volunteered to serve.

AND FINALLY …

Each week, The Post partners with a local animal shelter to feature one or more of the many animal companions ready for a new home in our community.
Today, we invite you to meet Dusty, an 11-year-old male Lab mix who may have been around the block for a while, but is fairly new to the shelter. Staff say he is a golden-hearted gentleman who loves leisurely walks and tasty treats.
Staff also said he’s friendly with everyone, new and familiar, and great on leash.
If you’re interested: You can visit the shelter at 4575 E. Mesquite Ave. Hours are 11 a.m. until 5 p.m. on all days except for Mondays (open for intake only) and Thursdays (1 p.m. until 7 p.m.).
You can always call the shelter at (760) 416-5718. And make sure to check out all the other pets at the shelter here.
