Two things generally for amateurs at the golf course. One is expectation. That starts wrong most of the time. Like they’re going to go out and have a good round. I think that’s just have a fair round. Like have a fair expectation. Like back to that preparation stuff. Like if you’ve been in the office for the last 7 days, don’t get your hopes up too high that you’re going to hit every fairway in green out

  1. My golfing, buddy is often exasperated by the third or fourth hole, I always tell him,
“ lower your expectations, it’s just you and the ball, nobody else out here”
He almost always hits an amazing shot after that.
Usually, his hybrid, because prior to that ,he just hit a 40 yard dribbler off the tee box😂

  2. I generally shoot 85-95. One day my brother messaged me toward the end of my work to see if I wanted to play golf. I showed and threw my bags on the cart. I didn’t even half on a golf shirt. I shot 77 and was a few shots short of even par. Moral of the story…show WITHOUT any expectations and just play.

  3. Kinda like Adam Scott couldn’t come in off the golf course and overcome all the objections of the sale you want to close…

  4. Great advice, played with many who get frustrated. Play once a week and have no time for practice. Enjoy your round. Count them at the end, and you may surprise yourself with score.

  5. I've played once a week for over 25 years. I'm 57 years old, big guy, 10 handicap. What do I have to complain about? Nothing. Greatest day of my weeks.

  6. When I was playing my best about 2-3 years ago, I was a +2.7 index. Since then I’ve had a couple kids and only get out once a month after a long stretch of not playing at all. It took awhile to get realistic about where my game really was and what I should expect to shoot. This is good advice and will help you enjoy the game more.

  7. I have a buddy who is about a 100 pounds over weight, never practises, doesn't warm up, slices his putts, slices his driver, and routinely shoots well over a hundred and he gets more mad then anyone that he doesn't play well. It wasn't so comical I'd never golf with him again.

  8. I was playing 4-5 times a week at the beginning of summer when work was slow now that it’s busy I can only play once a week and I’ve been playing way better 🤷

  9. Say your the guy who hits every fairway and green ..but can't sink a putt lol..any advice for that guy 🤔..and don't say broomstick 😅

  10. Just have fun. Golf is supposed to be fun. If you're not having fun, why are you paying these ridiculous prices to play? Have a beer or 2. Take a toke. Whatever. Calm down and enjoy your day out in the sun(hopefully). I pretty much use the scorecard to see any hazards I'm not aware of, not so much for keeping score. Keeping score can ruin your fun. LOL

  11. I needed to hear this today. Literally today.

Thank you for putting it into perspective for me. Solid advice! Coming from the man I watched win the Master in the rain, live on my TV screen!

  12. I actually play my best golf when I’m out there trying to shoot an honest round for my handicap. I’d prefer to keep a higher handicap, so I don’t mind if I bogey or double. Naturally, I play the best golf of my life. Lol

  13. I’m an incredibly gifted athlete who doesn’t have time for golf every week. My expectation is that I will be a much better golfer when I’m retired and every club in my bag is a hybrid.

  14. I go out to get my money's worth. I'm shooting 110, taking a dozen mulligans, drinking 6 bag beers, and hopefully finding more balls than I lose.

  15. I used to be a six handicap, decades ago. I seldom play anymore, so I have set my goal to get 3 legit pars in 9 holes. Still working on that, but it makes the round more fun when things blow up.

  16. I think it's fine to have a legitimate expectation based on how good you are. If you play very poorly based on a legitimate expectation, then it's ok to be annoyed.

  17. Thats actually terrible advice. Don't ever think about mediocrity in your shots. Envision yourself hitting great shots. Just work on letting it go when you inevitably hit bad shots
