If you’re struggling with poor contact or inconsistent low point, your setup might be to blame.
Standing with your feet and hips aimed left and the ball back in the stance makes it nearly impossible to strike the ball cleanly when you’re chipping.
Instead, stand square, keep your aim neutral, flare the lead foot slightly, and center the ball with weight forward on your lead side.
You’ll strike the ground more consistently and make better contact instantly.

So a lot of golfers will come to us and set up like this where the feet, the hips are actually aiming left and the ball then gets very much back in the stance. This leads to a lot of striking issues. So instead, here’s a very simple way of thinking about it. Let’s get the feet, the knees, and the hips pretty much parallel to our target line. The feet relatively close together. All we’re going to do is flare the lead foot out like this. We’re going to have the ball relatively center in the feet. And from here now, we’re just going to lean 70% of the weight on the front leg. So, when it comes to chipping, don’t over complicate things. Set up pretty neutral and allow that club to brush the ground somewhere near the golf ball.
