All [Music] right, welcome into another episode of the News forJs podcast. Jamal Staint Se alongside Justin Barney. Uh Justin, we haven’t done none of these. There wasn’t there wasn’t We’ve been on a by week as well, right? We took a little bit of a of by week on the podcast. Uh, I don’t think anybody wanted to hear us talk about the Rams game anyway. I sure didn’t want to talk Jags after uh the last two weeks. My goodness. Not Not pretty. Not pretty. All right, week off. So, next up is a date with the Raiders. Got to win that game. Come on. If they lose the Raiders game, Yeah, I’m with you. If they lose the Raiders game, the wheels are off, you’re not a buyer anymore. Um, then now now you you sell everything. Yeah, it’s a rebuild. I I’m I’m with you. I don’t from what we’ve seen from this team, you know, the the 4 in one start, the high of that, beating the Chiefs, Monday Night Football, turnovers were flowing like mana from heaven and since then played good teams. The Rams are good. The Rams are good. Seahawks are good. Defensive fronts are really good. Okay, you lose to good teams. I get that. But I think the things that we have said and thought all along are rearing their ugly head and showing that the Jaguars just are not contenders. That’s if you lose this game. So Trevor Lawrence still erratic. Brian Thomas Jr. and the receivers can’t catch. Uh the interior defensive line is bad. There’s no pass rush. Um and when the defense is not forcing takeaways like they were in that ridiculous start, those issues seem to manifest themselves. the offensive line. I They had played so much better up until these past two games. 14 sacks. 14 sacks. My god. So, yeah, if you go to Las Vegas and lose this game or those same issues, drop passes, penalties, inability to sack, Juno Smith, if those issues pop up, then you say, “Okay, we’re we’re a little bit further away.” All right. So, uh Jaguar social media has been been absolutely in shambles. Um, absolutely in shambles. People have been panicking for about two weeks now. So, uh, you you hit on a couple of them, but let let’s start with Brian Thomas since that was the most, I guess, recent thing that sent people over yet. So, uh, Da Rousini, she sends out the report that basically the Jaguars are listening to calls on Brian Thomas. Now, she does put the caveat that they are unlikely to move him. People took that, ran with it, like the Jaguars are shopping Brian Thomas. So just before we even go any further, there’s a difference between hey Justin, you called me. What what what are you thinking for this deal and hey just would you be interested in trading? Like there there’s two different things. Somebody calls you pick up and you say oh this is crazy but what what you thinking just so I can see. And I I think people are like oh well they’ll just hang up. They don’t you don’t shop players. It’s they weren’t shopping them and you do listen and this is what teams do. What do you think James Gladstone’s job is? Yeah. So, Brian Thomas, Liam Cohen straight out came out and said he’s not going anywhere. So, gonna be a Jaguar. Um, they have he said he’s optimistic that BT is going to bounce back. Now, you do need more out of BT, a lot more. Um, but I think the panic over the trade or it was a mixture of panic and excitement. Some people wanted him gone. Um, and some people were kind of in panic mode that they were doing that. I mean, for a guy who had such a good rookie year, I mean, the fact is saw what he could do last year playing with M. Jones the bulk of the time. Most success came with Mack. Yeah. But 17 games, unbelievable rookie season. Um, and so he’s 24 games to his NFL career. You’ve got him under contract for up to five years at a discount. We’ve seen BTJ at his best over 17 game season. Unbelievable. year than comparison with Randy Moss in terms of these stats that you put up in the season you had and he’s in a slump. There’s no doubt about it. He’s had a horrible sophomore season. Um, no can’t lipstick on a pig. This guy has had a bad bad year. He’s top 100 NFL player. Uh, he’s a guy that Liam Cohen said the offense is going to run through BTJ this year. Yep. And it’s run through run through his hands and they’re dropping them because Yeah. He’s been disappointed. He’s been terrible, but he’s a guy who’s young. You’ve seen what he could do at his peak just a season ago. I think it’s really too early to give up on BTJ. Now, if we’re still having these conversations in week 15 and 16, he’s shortarming balls. He’s dropping passes and he he’s been moved over in the pecking order by Travis Hunter, Dami Parker, then I think you can have those conversations. But this point there’s no What do you do? You move on from him and and what do you replace him with? They’ve got nothing. Allow me to just since this is a podcast and I we can get as crazy as we want. If I was going to move him, I got one deal that did come to mind that would actually work out. The Cardinals are kind of frustrated with Marvin Harrison Jr. too for some some of the similar problems that BT’s had. I mean, could the two teams work out some sort of swap? Maybe they get I don’t know. To me, I’m just saying I’m Look, it’s not going to happen. Brian’s here. Marvin Harrison Jr.’s there. But I’m just saying, look, if if you’re one one problem for another, you know, it is. Um, BTJ, I think, from just everything I’ve read uh about Marvin Harrison Jr., BTJ is a little bit easier to work with than Marvin Harrison Jr., so I I don’t know about one problem for another. I I think you got to ride with BTJ. Look, I mean, he he had an unbelievable rookie season, and he’s just for whatever reason, I I think he’s probably hurt. I think he’s probably concealing injury. I think he’s probably a little bit more banged up than he’s let on. To me, he has for a while. He has not looked good since training camp. And there’s a difference between him and last training camp looking slow, lethargic, just kind of not playing and they got on the field, boom, he’s a gamer. This training camp, I was talking about this with you the other day. He went up high for catch one day and camp came down really, really hard, awkward, was very ginger to get up. then a team they’re having a team portion and he got hit and twisted a certain way and he walked off the field and like oh man this is bad. He to me has just looked not healthy, not comfortable, whatever the case may be. But he’s looked that way throughout training camp. There’s been two or three moments that I can think of off dating all the way back to mini camp where that’s happened to him on the field and I just wonder if there’s something there that he’s playing through. I’ve said this for a while. Um, I’m still pretty adamant about it. I think it’s something that we probably won’t find out entirely, whatever it is, until either the end of the season or beginning of next season when he starts playing well. He’s like, “Yeah, y’all didn’t y’all didn’t know I was playing through whatever whatever last year.” Well, you didn’t tell us. You wouldn’t tell us what it is. You know, in the Rams game, he got kind of chipped uh towards the end of that game, pushed at the line of scrimmage, holding his shoulder. You know, maybe it’s uh, you know, labram rotator cuff kind of issue. Um, something collar bone. I mean, he to me, he’s not healthy, and I think that’s probably uh a contributor for what is going on with him this year. He we saw him last year, what he could deliver, fast, good. Um got six drops this year, and I think that’s probably uh a little light on it. Jacksonville’s 25 drops as a team. BTJ’s got six of them. Um and he short armed some other ones and stuff. He I don’t know. Devil’s advocate. I just I think he’s fighting through something that we don’t know about. I’m with you. All right. So, the other thing that Jaguar social media was in uh combustion about it, it it seems like they always are, is Trevor Lawrence. Um, you kind of mentioned it. He’s strugg he hasn’t played well. I don’t care what metric you want to judge him by. I mean, he’s been fine, but the the numbers say he hasn’t been well. Now, the problem I have with it right now is I think if I sit there and look at a board, especially these last two games, and like chart out the Jaguars problems, I don’t think Trevor Lawrence right now, in my opinion, is either even top two or top three. Like, I don’t think he’s been great, but I think the pre-nap penalties, the drop passes, I think those sorts of things to me are higher on the list than where Trevor’s been. But because he’s the quarterback and he’s a $50 million quarterback, uh people are looking at it and saying, “Well, he’s the problem and he’s the reason they’re not winning games.” I don’t think he’s played great. And I think he’d tell you that and I think Liam will tell you that that he has to play better. But I think when you start listing problems, I don’t think it’s Trevor that’s the biggest problem right now. But he’s not as fixable as some of the other things. Yes. So, my issue with Trevor and I’ve said this for years and people skewer me online for it and call call me terrible names and and I’m fine with it and you like it and I’m fine with wearing that. But the fan base, not all of them, certain fans, core of fans have been so such apologists for everything Trevor has done and it makes me sick. This guy is a guy in his 20s, okay? He’s had highprofile recruiting ever since he’s been in high school. Yep. Played at Clemson. He can handle the net. He can handle that the flack. Some of you fans are just a bunch of wusses. And I will say it and and I can’t say what I’m truly saying on here. You guys need to toughen up and hear criticism where it lies and stop looking at things with these teal colored Trevor Lawrence. I love you. He can do no wrong glasses on because he he has not been what he was expected to be. And I I said this to you earlier. You think Drake May came into a perfect situation with the Patriots? Patriots were dog crap. Drake May has come in. He’s played well. Bo Nick Knicks, Bo Knicks has got a good defense behind him, but he has played well. Okay, those guys were not nearly as highly regarded as Trevor. And anytime you say anything negative about 16, there’s a certain, you know, pocket of fans, you’re a hater. you’re this, you’re that. And I know I’ve seen some other guys in media get up get kind of the flak about it uh for saying the same things that I’ve said for years now. It’s stop being such pansies. You know who you are about Trevor Lawrence because he’s a grown man. He can take it and he’s number one pick in the draft making $50 million a year. You’re you’re supposed to be able to hit a swing pass. Shut up. Deal with it. 16 is average. He’s average at this point. And is he the biggest problem for Jacksonville? No, he’s not. But when you’re a $50 million quarterback, you’re in year five, you’ve seen guys like Drake May come in, Bo Nicks come in and succeed with comparable receivers or offensive talent around you. The Patriots are terrible. Terrible. And they have success. Why is Trevor not having success? Why are you trying to grade Trevor on a different metric? He’s not been get he has been average to above average for the bulk of his career and let in and below average the portion of that too. He for one swath of his career the the end of his second season, beginning of his third season, he was top 10 quarterback in the league. That’s one sample size. Everything on the front end and the back end of that has been at best inconsistent. Now, inconsistent is the net because you see him make the throw, the throw, and then you see him miss the easy throw. I’m telling fans, shut up, grow some and deal with it. It’s just what it is. It is what it is. At this point, we’ve seen what Trevor, I mean, he he is an average to above average quarterback, and you can win with that, but not with him air mailing balls over guys on on third and six, and you send it over. Stop. Stop being so rosecolored teal glasses on Trevor. Okay. Would you take That’s my Trevor rant right now. Would you take Sam Darnold over Trevor? Probably. Okay. Probably. Right now, would you take Kyler Murray over Trevor? Probably not. Okay. So, that I think that’s your sweet spot is he’s he’s a little bit below Sam but above Kyler Murray. So, and that that’s not necessarily a great no barometer or place to be, but that’s that’s definitely the lower tier of the league. You and I have talked about it time again. I go back, we were doing our pods upstairs and uh talked about if Trevor could be that top 13 quarterback in the league. You’re talking about I mean a playoff quarterback, you’re talking about a guy who could be above average. He’s not been that. He’s not been that. in. Is it fair to say people stop making excuses for him? He’s fifth year of the league. He’s with a quarterback whisperer now at his head coach. Yes, I know he’s in a new system. Yes, I know he’s had Urban Meyer and Peterson and Balky who were probably conspiring behind his back to do uh to not see him succeed. Whatever. I you got to take the glove and call a spade a spade. Trevor has been average. It is what it is. This is still not Hold. Okay. Well, actually, we can I I’ll ask you. I know my answer, but I think the question for a lot of people going into the season was this a make or break season for Trevor. I still say it’s not. I I know we said going in that it had to be catastrophically bad. I don’t think it’s been good, but I don’t think it’s been catastrophically bad that this off season they’re trying to pull the eject cord. No, absolutely not. I think he gets at least minimum one more year option right now. This is new contract really even kicked in yet. Start till next year. Is it too early to pull the plug on him? Unless he was just Justin Fields kind of bad. Mhm. No, you’re married to Trevor right now. You’re Shod likes Trevor. The fan base likes Trevor. You’re winning games. You’re not losing games like you were early on in the career. There’s still growth for Trevor and he could be a quarterback here for 15 years. But you’re going to have to have consistency. And I think he gets a little bit of a longer leash. Um being Liam’s first year, the coaching staff still believes in him. He’s not losing games. No, he’s not losing games. He’s not throwing turnovers, turning it over every game. He’s not. But again, when you go from the Sam Darnold conversation to the Kyler Murray conversation, we were talking about and Sam Darnold looked really bad for a while. So, the light kind of came on like the fact that that was part of the reason why I went to that name is cuz for whatever reason, all of a sudden, he woke up in Minnesota one day and this isn’t the same Sam Darnold we saw for years, but he’s on his third team. He is on his third team, but he’s playing really good ball for the Seahawks now. He’s playing better ball for the Seahawks than he was playing in Minnesota. So, I feel like he’s showed, and Liam kind of talked about this at one point during the season, that sometimes it’s so much situation and these guys are learning so much. And sometimes it just takes different guys longer for the light to come on. Yeah. That for whatever reason, Sam Darnold, the Jets are a mess. The Jaguars were a mess for a long time. I think Liam is the right leadership. I think Gladstone’s the right general manager. I think you can see the growth that it’s becoming a more organized organization already. Um, that’s going to put Trevor in a better spot or whoever the quarterback is in a better spot. Can he have that epiphany, that career rebirth that Sam Darnold had? Um, it took Sam Darnold switching teams. Actually, he’s not on his third team. He’s on his fourth, ain’t he? Yeah, his fourth team cuz he went from San Francisco. He was in San Francisco. He went from San Francisco to Minnesota to Seattle. So yeah, it he’s on his fourth team before the light finally comes on. Baker Mayfield had to go on his journey across the NFL. I mean, before the light comes on. Can Trevor have that same epiphany just in the same place? I mean, he Trevor has more physical talent than Baker Mayfield. Baker Mayfield got some moxy on him. Like I wish now. Yeah. And I I am totally not out on Trevor. I I just think people need to recognize he is what he is at this point in his career. and stop getting so mad if people criticize the Savior and accept it for what he is. Can he still leave Jacksonville and get him to the playoffs and win a game? Absolutely. But I don’t think he’s ever going to be that generational kind of guy. I just think you know what he is at this point. And at Trevor’s Peak, he was one of the best quarterbacks and he top 10 quarterback in the league. So, you know, he’s got it. But the inconsistency. Now, if we’re having this conversation at the midway point of next year where there’s just been kind of this this plateau where you kind of, you know, maybe maybe at the end of next year, you start having a conversation. Well, is he this guy long term? Do we need to to move on? But I I’m not out on Trevor. I think it’s way still way too early in his career. Oh, the contract, by the way, is a big onus on it. But I I just don’t I don’t think it’s the make or break year. I think this the make or break regime for Trevor. I don’t think it’s a make or break year. Here’s the caveat. When you get those contracts, because they are so restrictive on the salary cap, the expectation is that he’s going to elevate everyone around him to make up for the gaps that now you don’t have to spend money on. When he’s on the rookie deal, you have all this extra money to spend. You can pay guys and do things that elevate the rest of the talent in the league. Once his contract kicks in, you don’t have as much money to throw around at guys to elevate the rest of the team. So, you need the quarterback to elevate. If Trevor’s not doing that or the staff gets to the point where they’re like, “Look at the best he’s a game manager. Like, this is who he is. We don’t know if he can be the guy to elevate, then there might be a tough conversation of, okay, well, how can we The problem is how do you find a quarterback?” I mean, you thought it was you can’t I mean, you thought that was it. You thought that was your guy for 15 years. And when you fell into that draft pick, Mhm. every other quarterback in that class, that was a bad I mean, and as we got further away from that class, it was bad. That was a historically bad quarterback class. Justin Fields bad. M. Jones, not good. Bad. Not Not a good class at all. U But I think you can I think you can win with Trevor as long as he’s not turning the ball over, which he’s done better at this season. Uh he had a great game-winning drive against the Chiefs. You know, it’s in there. But I don’t think I think you can stop putting him in that top five quarterback conversation because he’s not that guy in the top five. Well, after coming off that after coming off that after coming off that playoff year of the Chargers dreams of being top like look, let’s get Trevor in the top 15 like cemented in top 15 and then we’ll we’ll talk. So yeah, little work to do. Not out, but yeah, there’s definitely been a lot of conversations there. All right, last thing and then we’ll wrap up. So trade deadline’s around the corner. Uh, if I was Vegas, I’m putting the line at uh at 1.5 moves for the Jags. You taking the over or the under? I’m gonna probably take uh I’m gonna take the under on that. You’re gonna take the under. So, he’s going for I’ll say one deal. I’ll say one deal. One deal. Uh, all right. So, do you have a position in mind or alive? He said all of them. He said all of them. All right. in ranking of to me the the necessity receiver who can catch, but I think you’re going to be kind of stuck with who you got. I think I I don’t think it’s going to be receiver even though it would be great to go out and get a you know a the home run kind of guy. All right, here Jaylen Wadd somebody like that. Not happening. Let me throw some names out at you and you can just rank them on a let’s You want to do a scale of one to four? Okay, let’s go. Or one one to 10. One to 10. All right, we’ll do scale of one to 10. I’ll just throw some names. All right. Receiver Jacobe Meyers spent He’s been with Edgar Bennett before. He’s requested out of uh out of Vegas. Maybe he just gets on the plan. Maybe come home with them on Yeah, maybe come home some of them Sunday. Sure handed maybe. Um big body. I would say I would say three on Okay, that one doesn’t move you. Rasheed Shahed. Little smaller, dynamic down the field kind of guy. My fantasy team. I would say I would be interested in Shahid. I would say five on Shah. Five on Shahed. Uh, what about Jawan Jennings, San Francisco? Another guy who’s asked for a trade. He has asked for a trade. He’s a little banged up. San Francisco has had some drop issues this year with the injuries. I would say uh I would say a three on him. A three. So my top my three receivers would be Shahed, uh, Jacobe, and then Jennings. Okay. So, two of them have requested trades and, um, kind of want out of their current situation. We’ll see if their teams end up moving them. Shahed. The Saints are kind of in a would you go a over Shahed? Yeah. Okay. The Saints, at least according to the reports, don’t seem like they want to move a lav, but him and Rasheed are both in like similar situations with their contract. One year left. If the deal’s not going to get done, maybe they’ll move on. Um, all right. How about the two long shots at receiver? Uh, obviously you’ll have Jayla Waddle ahead of him. What about AJ Brown? My only thing with him is just how toxic he seems. Give him a little, don’t he? That that to me, good receivers have that though. Yeah. But not I I I don’t want a guy who’s going to come in and be so divisive and just I I would love the talent. I would hate the baggage that it comes with. Guy just signed a freaking extension massive deal with Philadelphia and he’s already bitching about getting Come on. Get out of here, AJ. I I would take No, give me those other guys over AJ. All right. So, those are the receivers that you’d be in. Would you would you call about Mark Andrews, tight end? Still got a little ways before Brenton Strange is back. He’s only missed two games, so he’s got two more. Maybe maybe call on Brent. Maybe maybe call on Andrews. Okay. One is 10. I would say six on him. Six on Mark Andrews. You like that one? Okay. Uh how about Kus Campbell? Three sacks this season. Need defensive tackle, defensive line help. He could help you at both spots and tackle a little bit. Yeah. Give me give me a five on Klay. Middle of the road on him. I don’t know what pass rusher kind of defensive muscle you would be able to land at the deadline. Those guys, that’s the hard thing. I mean, Titans aren’t going to let go of Simmons. Nope. Um, Malik Collins for Cleveland, but how many deals can you possibly do with Cleveland before they’re like, look, I I just I don’t know what what type of upgrade you would get. I mean, everybody’s going to say Trey Hendrickson, something along the lines. I just Trey Hendendrickson, Jaylen Phillips, but you do you need another edge? I don’t I think you need a defensive tackle type unless you’re moving Trayvon inside. So, um I’m trying to think about defensive tackles that are available. And that’s the hard thing. There’s not a whole lot of impact for what you what you’re looking for is a guy who can move uh move the the stack and there’s not a lot of guys out there at this point. You know, those guys don’t grow in trees and Jacksonville would have to to give up quite a bit to get it. Um, to me, I think best case scenario and to address the receiver thing is make Travis. I mean, get him out there and keep giving him 15 targets a game. Uh, let him grow. I mean, you gave up a lot to get him. You need him to to the the expense of what you gave to get him. You got to have that. You got to justify that. And to me, throwing him five balls a game, six balls a game. Well, he is a dynamic guy. You saw what he could do last game. Keep giving him the ball. And at some point you’re going to hope that BTJ can can hang on to the past that the light bulb comes on for Dami. So I think if I mean I would love a a a Rashid Jahi kind of guy come here. I you know if I if I’m picking on my just one trade um I think it’s got a I mean your pass rush is anemic. Yeah anemic. If all I could get is Kas I’d take Kas at this point. I mean I’d try and get something else but you need a boost. Who are you? Over or under the the one and a half? I’m over. Over. Okay. I think I think they’ll have about I think one of them will probably be a smaller kind of deal kind of deal. Yeah, something like that. And then Luke I was I watched Luke Fortnerer play football this weekend. Um yeah, it’ll be a I think I think one will be a deal like that and then I think they’ll get one that’s a little bit more impactful. That That’s just me thinking. We’ll see. Um, I think that’s about it that I can come up with off the top of my head. Um, that would be move the needle kind of deals. Yeah, I to me it’s it’s got to come in the form of somebody who can to me and the weak link on this team is that is that defensive front. The offensive line showed it could could click early in the season last two games. No, you know, you got the pieces there when the guys are healthy. Receivers have potential. You got the number two pick in the draft. You got another first round of BTJ. I mean, the the pieces are there. Um, but do you play Travis Hunter full-time both ways at this point? I think so. I mean, I he he I think he’s better as a corner long term, but I think out of necessity at receiver, I mean, the guy can play. The guy can play, and you gave up so much to get him. You need a spark. Your best player should be out there. Your best player should be out on the field as much as humanly possible. And he’s that he’s on both sides of the ball. I think you get him out there, let him play as many snaps as possible. Don’t kill the guy, but get it. You want your playmakers out there, and he is that. Yeah, I think it’s tough. Um, like you can see, he’s physically talented. I think sometimes the feel at receiver, you see, he’s still growing into and still learning pieces. So, it’s tough to put him out there full-time. He can’t be in every meeting. Yeah. And it’s different. Um, and I just I don’t look at some point I’m I’m where I’m at is he wants to do it. He’s going to be unhappy if he doesn’t get a chance to do it. You need him to do it. I I feel like just let him let him try. I I feel like the coaching staff is just vasillated between, hey, we’re gonna he’s this change the league kind of guy to which he had. I mean, he is playing both ways substantially, but you’ve got to allow you got to take that leash and let it go longer. I mean, stop pulling him out of the games. I mean, let the guy play. Get him out there. You saw what he could do at Colorado. And I know it’s Colorado and not the SEC and this NFL, but the guy’s got an engine. You drafted him number two. You gave up a lot to get him. He was dynamic in college. He’s clearly an elite player. Let him grow. Let him learn and let him play. I You got to have your best players out on the field. He’s better than BTJ at receiver now. Give him the line share of the targets. I mean, he was sure looked better. Best receiver on the field last game. Best receiver on the field for the Jags. All right, last thing. Any players that you’d chip off or that would be worth uh worth? I don’t think there’s anybody on the Jags that I I think teams are calling for right now. Let me see. Eric Armstead, Devon Hamilton, if I had the chance to chip him off that somebody actually wanted to trade for. Um, no. I mean, now that Tyson is gone, I would say h I mean, nothing that I can I mean, unless it’s somebody looking for like a Devon Hamilton type that could give you some meaningful reps come playoff time on the line, but I I don’t think there’s anybody I don’t of I don’t know who somebody would call about. Um if somebody was calling I mean for Deon Lloyd it would h but it has to be higher than probably a third round pick cuz if there so if you let him walk the comp formula and he gets a big contract and they don’t spend money like James Gladstone has zero intention of um then they get a third round pick for this dude. So a team would have to come to you right now and say at the very least they’re giving you a third round pick and something else to make it make sense for them to let to trade Deon now. And I don’t think somebody’s showing up with a second round pick on the table for Devil. Not for him. And he’s had a great season, but just the I mean, maybe Vince Miller, but I don’t think he played well enough last game that somebody’s like, “Uh, I need him.” Um, I don’t think you can afford to trade Foier. I don’t think there’s anybody that I don’t think there’s anybody that’s going to You’re talking I mean, that’s three linebackers right there. I mean, who’s going to make a deal for an offball kind of linebacker guy like that? I mean, Deon Lloyd’s had a great year. I don’t think any team comes Yeah. If Jacksonville was in a fire sail mode or something, I would say maybe they ship him off, but he’s played too strong on defense and um you trade Tyson and look what happens. Could you imagine parting out Devin and and the defense kind of taking a step back again? No. Yeah, I don’t think I don’t think any of their guys are going. So, we’ll see. I mean, they have a ton of draft picks, so they do have capital to go get guys if they need to. A ton of draft picks. Like, quietly, Gladstone’s just been stacking them up. So should be a busy draft. Still four. Had you told me still four and three. Had I said this on the radio earlier, if you would have told Jaguars fans you were going to be four and three coming into the season second half. Yep. You’ll beat the Chiefs on Monday Night Football. I think nine out of 10 Jaguars fans would have said, “Sign me up.” Right. I think people people take or it’s the last two games. It was two that were bad in a row. So people are like, “Oh, the wheels have come off. Here’s the They were bad. They were They weren’t. But it’s still a four and three team going into the second half. The schedule gets much easier. Like Raiders, I think, look, they should they should beat the Raiders back. Jacksonville native. Ashton Genty on the roster. I’m not I’m not even messing with you today. Who’s on my fantasy football team messing with you today? I feel like I know Ashton, man. He’s from here. He’s from He’s a Jacksonville’s favorite son going against We can talk about that Denver week when they play Pat Bryant. I’m not even messing with you today. So, they got four wins already, right? Yeah. They should beat the Raiders. Should beat the Raiders. They should beat the Titans twice. Yes. That’s seven right there. They got the Jets on the schedule. They should beat the Jets. So, your floor just the games you should win is eight games. The Colts haven’t won in Jacksonville in a long time. So, you say, “All right, you get to nine.” Like, let’s let’s say they win nine games, miss the playoffs. This is just forecasting since we’re in the bye-week. Let’s say win nine games, miss the playoffs. Is that a successful first year for Lima? Absolutely. I would think so, too. Heck yeah. You go from uh four wins, which you’re already there, uh how many turnovers you had last year, eight or nine takeaways the entire season. Uh you’ve got 14 right now. I mean, there there have been so many signs of progress and you knew it wasn’t going to be a one season fix because this team had a lot of deficiency, has had this team wasn’t a 4-13 team last year on paper. You had too many big guys. Um you had injuries and all that. I think coaching and and how the roster was assembled was a big part of that. Uh but I don’t think Liam Cohen inherited a four- win team. I think on paper it should have been I mean seven or eight win team coming back with the talent they had coming back. And I but I think if you double your win total um I think I said originally seven and 10 8 n if you don’t get past eight wins this is going to be a disappointing season. I think they can finish nine and eight if they can get to nine. I I still think n is the floor. I think they can get to 10 or 11. Um, but if they get to nine or 10 wins, successful season, if we get to, let’s say they miss the playoffs, even if they get to 10, because the race to that wild card spot is going to be close. Um, if you get to the end of the year, people feel a little bit better about Trevor. You’re I mean, I think we’re already getting there where you’re like, Travis Hunter is really good. Um, possible superstar level. I think we’re I think we’re at least knocking on the door of it. If he can show more at receiver, I think everybody consensus really good corner. Yes. elite corner almost. And then receiver where you feel a little bit better, but if you can see a couple more games like against the Rams, his potential’s there, but there and I can see people being disappointed, too, because he’s Oh, come on. I mean, I guess the expectation was Yeah, expectation. You’re a Heisman winner. You did something prolific in college football that hasn’t been done in generations. He’s an elite corner right now. And but one one touchdown in seven games, no picks. Um, so you know, I think it’s fair. It’s been an underwhelming statistical start for Travis. Hasn’t been targeted a ton. Underwhelming statistical start for Travis, but you could see when you when you you send out a first round pick in a trade, you move up to number two and you get a guy like Travis, you’re you’re hoping for home runs. You are. You are. I don’t think he’s not a home run, but he hasn’t been yet. But he he hasn’t been yet. So, if we can get to the end of the season and say, “Okay, we feel really good about that pick with Travis Hunter.” Um, I think those are your two two biggest things. I mean, you’d like maybe another young player. We’ve seen flashes of tootin. Can we get a chance to see a little more of that? Um, so you you feel a little bit better about a couple of those guys. Brian would be great if he went on a little run to end the season. So, you said, “Okay.” But you’ve seen Strange’s growth already, so he gets healthy. So, I think there’s enough building blocks like the possibility is there that you could win 10 games even if you miss the playoffs and feel really good going into next season. And to me this year was about getting Trevor back on course. Uh fixing the defense um and and getting some wins from your draft class. Free agents uh you know free agency a little underwhelming. I mean Hany has been solid. Uh Jordan Lewis has been really really good. You say free agency was underwhelming. Okay. Who? Justin. Dei Brown. Okay. Bad. Bad. Hy good. Hy good. Hy good. Right. Jordan Lewis good. Jordan Lewis is good. Way overpaid for Jordan Lewis. Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa. Way overpaid for Jordan Lewis. Justin, Justin, Justin Justin. He has been impactful for the defense. He is what you lost when So I was here when Kas was here. My first year Kas is here. Then they trade Kas. Miami literally just did the basically did the same thing. And Mike McDaniel said, “Man, we didn’t realize the leadership we lost when Kus left.” Jordan Lewis was them paying to get the leadership in the building to an extent. They paid a little bit. paid paid a lot, but you’re bidding against yourself in a guy, a 30-y old quarterback who was not paidly paid nearly in that that spectrum in Dallas. So, he’s not even top five for his contract on the roster. Okay, let’s Okay, Jordan Lewis a great great addition. I just think they paid him too much. All right, Hunter Long, Johnny Munt, I mean, for what they were they were they were signed to be backup tight ends and they’re not paid. All right, I’ll say Miss Who else? Eric Murray. Eric Murray’s been banged up, but good. Dennis Gard. Dennis Gardc’s been solid. Okay. Um, who else did they bring in free? That’s pretty much it. ABA miss. Smoot miss. Yeah. Um, yeah, that’s pretty much it. Yeah. So, yeah. I don’t know it. So, you hit on Jordan Lewis, you hit on um who else did they hit on? I mean, Gard Dennis Gard. I think Gard’s a hit. I think Jordan Lewis is a hit. I think Eric Murray is a hit. And hes been sol and I think hes a hit. So I think you hit on four. Keep in mind like all of these dudes except for Jordan Lewis are like nothing contracts. Yeah. Bargain basement like very low like barely above vet minimum for most of them kind of deals. Um now they needed them. They signed them to be starters for at least spot fil duty. But I think you did that. Plus if you look at the draft class you feel pretty good about Travis Hunter at least being really good at corner bare floor. He’s going to be a very good corner for you. You’ve seen flashes of him at receiver. Can he get more consistent there? All right. Uh Wyatt Milm, we really don’t know. But I I still say he was really hurt to start the season. Caleb Ransaw, we have no idea. That’s an injury. But Rayon Lane is I mean, dare I say better than Daniel Thomas right now. So, you saved money and you drafted a replacement that’s younger and on a crosscontrol deal. Check. Laquent Allen very least very good pass blocker. gonna keep him in the league for probably 10 years. Uh, check. So, that Jonah Mannheim at the very least, he’s better than Luke Forner. I watched him again on Sunday. So, check. Upgraded there. Um, so you start looking at, we have no idea about Jack Kaiser at this point. And Tootton, you’ve seen Flatches like he’s a insane athlete. Can he be a 20 carry a game running back? Mloud, we don’t know. And Mloud, we don’t know cuz he’s been banged up, too. So, I mean, the rookie class, I think he hit on some of those day three picks, which is kind of his bag or supposed to be Gladstone’s bag. You do that, plus sprinkle in some of those costly vet or lowcost veteran free agent signings that are going to be his kind of mo. I don’t think the off season was bad. I I don’t I don’t think a bad off season. And you got two undrafted free agents that made the roster and BJ Green’s at least been active. Yeah. Not definitely not a bad off seasonason for a first time everything. Uh GM, head coach, coordinators, not definitely not a bad off seasonason. I think you needed to um what do they say? It’s it’s raising the floor of the team. I think you had to do that. Um you know, even the the Hunter Long signings, two touchdowns, by the way, Johnny Munt, those guys are not you’re doing it to kind of lift the the floor to me. first year coaching regime gets here. They’re trying to redo all the stuff from the past, get their guys in there. So, I get it. Yeah. Year two to me is more more interesting. You’re going to have a lot of dead money though to work. Yes, they have a ton of dead money to work with. I also think they went to ties like Hunter Long had ties to the offense. How many guys can we bring in that’ll help raise the intelligence level for this offense quickly and early? So, I think that played a a little bit of a role for some of the signs, too. I don’t know. We’ll see how it works out. I think the second half of the season should be fun. Does he have as many touchdown catches as Brian Thomas Jr. DTJ got one or two? ETJ has one touchdown catch. Total touchdowns is two. Hun long two TDs. Yeah, that’s right. So, so good signing. So, that tips the scale. There you go. All right. Hunter Long, friend of the podcast. That’s right. That’s right. Hey, he can do the Rubik’s Cube in 10 seconds. He sure can. Sure can. All right. Um, that’ll pretty much do it for this News for Jack’s podcast. We appreciate you guys hanging out with us and we’ll see you next time. Hey, get down. Get down. Get down. Hey, get down.

Sunday is a must win period..
You cant rebuild with a below average QB. Some of the fan base is delusional on Trevor is good.
Nobody touching Christian Wilkins with a 10 foot pole 😂
Darnold is on his 5th team
Jets, Panthers, 49ers, Seahawks, Vikings
If Trevor hasn't lived up to expectations it's because of the organization not the player.
Trevor is def ONE of the problems. He hasn’t shown any real progress in 5 years. He’s been stagnant how is that a franchise QB?
