Danny Walker capped off a memorable week with a T3 finish and a record-breaking 515 feet of putts, the most ever at this golf course. “It’s always fun to have a chance to win on Sunday on the back nine,” he said. “I probably had my best ball-striking day this week; just didn’t quite make the putts I did the first few days.”
Despite a few wayward shots, Walker kept perspective: “Not all perfect swings today, but nothing to complain about.” The result vaulted him up to 56th in the FedExCup standings, giving him renewed confidence: “You can just go play to win now — that’s a much nicer feeling than stressing about finishing top 125 or 100.”
Walker also reflected on his historic putting week: “I’m doing the right things mentally and technically… looking forward to making some more putts.”
Danny, how would you kind of uh characterize the day? Um I mean it it was a lot of fun. It’s always fun to have a chance to win on Sunday on the back nine. So, uh I mean played well, hit it well for the most part. Um probably the best ball striking day I had this week. I’ I’d say I just didn’t quite make the putts I did the first few days. Um but yeah, can’t can’t complain. Felt like I handled it well. Um it just you know it’s really hard to win. So I’ll take a I’ll take a T3 after this week. Couple uh squirly threewoods kind of on the on the back n just just just chalk it up the bad swings there on 11 and 14. Yeah the one the one on 11 was a little awkward because of the overhang tree. I probably couldn’t start it as far left as I would have liked. Um just made a bad swing there. Um the one on on 14 I knew bailing right would be pretty easy. So yeah, there wasn’t a good swing, but I missed in the right spot. So, um, yeah, I mean, not all perfect swings today, but nothing to complain about. You obviously are going to you move you ball up pretty high in the in the th like inside the top 60, I think 56. How much freedom does that make give you to play with the rest of the year? And, uh, does it change any goals? Um, freedom wise, it’ll help a lot. Yeah, because I won’t be quite as quite as stressed out. uh hopefully around that 100 number. Um so yeah, I can just go go play to play to win really. So that’ll be a lot nicer feeling than stressing about, you know, finishing top 125 or 100. Will you you obviously think about the that 50 to 60 number to get into the first couple signature events of 2026. Yeah, I mean that’s going to be on the minds. Uh I’m not sure where where I stack on on that now after this week. Um but got another week another event next week in Japan. So hopefully that’s another opportunity to uh yeah move up that list. Ting of disappointment in the things that happened today or like you said you’re pretty happy with the with the finish. But is there I mean yeah a little bit but seeing Stephen get to 24 that would have been that would have taken one hell of a back nine. So, um, like, yeah, I think if id cleaned it up a little bit, I would have maybe got me second, but I I would have had to do something special, I think, to shoot 24. So, yeah, a little bit of disappointment, but more more happy about a solid week. 515 ft of putts for the week. That’s a pretty impressive number. The best around this golf course in history. So, what do you take away with that? Um, just that I’m doing the right things with the with the putting. um as far as what I’m doing technically, mentally, um and and with the putter itself. So, uh yeah, looking forward to hopefully making some more putts. Thanks, D. Appreciate it. Yeah. Thank you.
