Amazon Basics Golf Ball vs Kirkland Costco – SHOCKING RESULTS!
We’ve just seen the release of maybe the best budget golf ball ever. This is the Amazon Basics Coroft golf ball. Now, these do come in at a phenomenal price, but if you buy 24 of these, they’re pretty much the same price as these, the Costco Kirkland Signature Golf Ball. This is a three-piece urethane performance golf ball. And this isn’t. You’ll see that’s now the unhappy smiley face. Guys, today we’re going to put these through their paces and see just how good these Amazon golf balls are. Test them out on the golf course. Test them for numbers both with irons and driver and test them with the man, the myth, Christopher. Chris, how are you? Very good. Yourself? Very good. So Chris, what are your thoughts on these? Because um you’ve coached on tour, carried on tour, coached for some beginner golfers, coached some terrible golfers from Wakefield and Leadeds to be honest. But um what are your thoughts on them? Are would you be in the market for a budget golf ball? Would you be looking at something in particular? Again, I think there’s obviously a price point for everything, whether you go through drivers or into the golf ball market, but this golf ball has done exceptionally well. You know, you are getting basically a Prov1 setup for nearly a pound a ball if you buy two dozen. Again, we’ve tested this recently and I did throw I think it’s the best feeling golf ball. It’s incredibly soft. Incredibly soft, isn’t it? One of the softest feeling golf balls I’ve tested, certainly. But it’s good. But it’s good for a certain golfer. Yeah. Right, guys. Let’s play a couple of holes with these golf balls. We’re going to talk numbers. We’re going to talk chipping around the greens, putting and we’re going to see what’s the best pound-for-pound golf ball when they come in at pretty much the same price. Right, Chris? We’ll have a bit of a match and we’ll have a better ball match. So, we’ll use these golf balls in very similar positions. I’m going to go Amazon ball first, Costco ball second. And I was really impressed with some of the drives that we got with the Amazon ball. The Costco ball we’ve used at length for a number of years now. We know how good that can be, right? Amazon. Straight away. That’s a lovely drive down the center of this par five. A little bit low launching. And when we do come to talk numbers, one of the things you’ll see is just how well how inconsistent this ball potentially could be. But that’s not the end of the world. Kirkland. Let’s try for a similar shot. You can see there straight away much higher launching three-piece urethane ball. Very similar ball flight just down the right hand side. I’ll be interested to see which one is my better ball and which one’s my worst ball with those T-shots. Oh, Chris, what have you got? So, you’ve got some uh got the yellow peril. Both these balls are available in white and in yellow. You’ve got the Kirky in yellow. Yeah. I’m going to go Kirkland first. Should we do this better ball or should we do it worse ball? I’m saying that cuz I hit two good T-shots. We’ll play a better ball. Don’t worry. Panic over. Oh, that’s a phenomenal drive. Look at that, by the way. That’s ridiculously good. Towering draw. Oh, and that I do feel like that’s where the Costco ball can it can be a bit of a a budget hero, can’t it? There was a bad batch that came out of Costco and my golf spy did kind of flag that up and I tested some of that batch and I found them to be quite inconsistent as well. But the latest ones are pretty consistent and pretty good. Yeah, they say seven yards longer and straighter than a Pro V1. Right, this is the Amazon. And that’s another phenomenal drive, albeit lower launching again. You wouldn’t expect it to be lower launching, would you? Well, I wouldn’t. No, but it is, which is interesting. And it’s interesting how I don’t I think this is one of the worst wind balls you could play. I’m going to give you that nugget early on in this video. I agree. Okay, so I’m buzzing with the drives we’ve hit there because they were very, very consistent. For once, me and Chris have both hit some good drives. And you can see just how close together some of these are. Now, Chris’s yellow ball is the Kirkland. I believe that white ball is going to be my Amazon. Am I right? Uh, I ain’t a number two. I think it’s mine. So, you think my Amazon’s all the way up there? I think so. Yeah. I tell you what, I do think I’m a number one. You were number one. That is you, my friend. So, that’s gone miles, hasn’t it? And straight away there, the Amazon performing rather well against the Kirky off the bat. Where did you say my Kirkland is? Just behind. It’s just back there. Back. Oh, it’s all the way back there. My Kirkland. So, you can see there, even though I’m saying it’s not a great wind ball, I’m doing the walk of shame going back to pick up my Kirkland because it just flatted a little bit higher. So, my better ball on the first hole isn’t going to be the Kirkland. It’s going to be the Amazon. So, we’re both going Amazon. Both. Yeah. Amazon has won the strong start. Oh, and I’ve got four iron here. Oh dear. It’s in the golf cart. Luckily, he’s on the te the gentleman. I got a great zoom of it. You just caught something on the way back, didn’t you? I did. Yeah. That felt absolutely fantastic. The Amazon ball. That’s a five iron. That animal mini driver five iron into the par five. Right. The green keeper has moved. Chris is going to go Amazon first here. We’ll test them both around the greens. Really good way of testing balls. This long as you don’t mind taking a few green keepers buggies out. That’s a great shot. Not playing for any spin there. Just kind of punted it forward nicely. Costco launched higher straight away. And that’s a really good shot as well. Two great shots. Costco coming out best that time. My Amazon finished in the bunker. We’ll go one of each. Give a good life for both. Oh, that felt really soft. A light spin, delayed spin, which we did find in the initial review of that ball. Kirkland, much lower launch and less spin again, which we did find initially. So, so far I do think this Amazon’s I’m going standing up more to the Kirkland than what I thought it was going to. Two birdie puts all beit better ball. A really nice thick alignment aid on the Amazon st. I do think I can get used to this softer feel, you know, for distance on putts. Quite like that. Half in pars, right, Chris? Two pars on the opening hole there. If you had to now choose a golf ball for off the tea, having tested both these balls at length realistically, what would you go with so far? That’s your Kirkland. Well, after the last I’m going to go cuz I’m enjoying it. The Amazon. I think it’s really nice to test these for numbers. We will we’re going to talk irons after this T-shot. But I think testing them side by side comparatively seeing the different ball flights. I’m amazed how they actually reacted in that kind of real life scenario. Yeah, I can’t believe how low this is. But again, low compression. Is it because of the club head speed? But so far a delightful feeling golf ball. If anyone cares how the golf ball feels. Nice. Is that the Amazon? That is the Amazon. It’s a nice low draw, isn’t it? Yeah. I’m enjoying that. I’m going to go Amazon as well. See if I can say that. I don’t want to flight it down cuz it’s into the wind, isn’t it? Let it fly. Just a nice normal low one with this ball. That’s really good. Say really good. Good shot. Delightful. Right, guys. Let’s talk some numbers with irons for both these balls and see just how comparable for the exact same price they really are. Okay, so we actually tested these balls for numbers when we did the original test of the Amazon golf ball. So, I’ve thrown the Prov1 numbers in there as well because that’s what we compared it against. And as you can see, it kind of staggers up, doesn’t it? So, the Amazon being the worst ball of the three. Then, of course, the Kirkland, then the Prov1, and that’s the same in all brackets. That’s the same in ball speed, the same in spin rate, the same in carry, and to be honest, the same in those total numbers. The Kirkland for me is always going to be a standout golf ball for the money. And you can see just how really it’s kind of going head-to-head against the Prov1, whilst the Amazon Basics is not really going head-to-head against either of them. Looking at that, what a shot that is, by the way. That could go in. Oh, right. Good drive there with the Amazon. I’m going to go Kirkland and Amazon here and try and fly in a little seven iron. 160 yards down a little bit into the wind. Let’s see how these balls can react. Amazon first. Try and keep it down. That is all over the flag, by the way. Is it the distance? It is. That’s another really good shot. Straight away much higher. It’s all over the flag again. Is that higher ball flight going to mean we’re short? Yes. Two very similar shots. Two very different outcome. Chris has finished just short of the bunker with his proper drive. You can see where both my shots have finished. They’re very similar actually. That’s just leaking to the right. Oh, it’s good though. That’s the Amazonian. Now for the yellow peril, the Kirkland. Can we do any better for the same price? That’s a nice controlled ball flight down the left. Yeah. Flag high and good. So, it’s four greens in reg with these budget golf balls. I think that’s one of the things I’d probably like to say the most here. We’re not testing them against provy ones or callaways. We’re testing them against the peers. Yeah. And performing pretty well. Be very interesting there for my two strikes. We’re a little bit low how the balls will look after that. Right. So, four balls on the green, but uh we have my Amazon here. Your Amazon there. My Kirkland’s a little bit shorter like I thought because it went higher. It has stopped quicker. The Amazon released out a bit. The Kirkland did stop much quicker. Doesn’t really help us to that back flag though. And even when it comes to putting, what what differences do we feel with the much much softer Amazon golf ball? This is the Amazon ball. 40 foot putt. Came off incredibly soft off that face. And the distance control is pretty good there. I’m quite happy with the putt that we’ve hit. Now the Kirkland, which is urethane and should still feel soft. That felt really firm though. It’s a much better line. Have we made it? No, very similar distance control with both putts though there. Tell you what, great effort. You having a go with an Amazon? I’ll have a go with an Amazon because I think with the putter it does feel really soft, doesn’t it? Yeah. I mean, it’s a total different feel to the Kirkland. And that’s why I think you do whatever ball you’re going to use, guys, you have to use something consistent. You can’t just keep kind of willy-nilly chopping and changing because these balls especially feel so different. It does become quite difficult to gauge distance control. Solid. Right guys, let’s talk some driver numbers for both these balls and we’re going to finish this match with a nearest pin on the final hole here at Lindric Golf Club. A rather difficult par three probably playing into the wind like it always does. So once again, we tested these golf balls four numbers when testing the original review of the Amazon with the Prov1’s as well. So I will include the Prov1’s in these numbers. Now what I found really interesting is the difference in launch, the visual launch more than anything. You could really see how both the Kirkland and the Prov1 being the urethane cover were launching nice and high. I was getting a good spin rate. Then we got to the Amazon test and it was like just it just didn’t really want to launch at all. The ball speed was low. The spin rate was, to be fair, pretty high, which I wasn’t anticipating because I was thinking it was just going to dip out of the air, but we had lots and lots of inconsistencies. The Prov1 and the Kirkland were both head-to-head doing really, really well. We’re getting around a kind of 270 carry-ish with the Kirkland, and as you can see, a little bit more with the Prov1, but the Amazon threw out some proper weird numbers. Like, some of them dipped out of the air, some of them spun right up, and some of them just didn’t do what we wanted them to do at all. So, it was a really interesting test and I do wonder about the consistency levels of these mega budget golf balls to be honest. Yeah. Right, Christopher. So, we can see there with the numbers with the drivers, very similar, but also very different. Very similar distances, but different spin rates and peak heights and things like that. So, I don’t think we can say it’s a bad ball this Amazon. No, I think it’s a a good golf ball to be honest. I say good, but I think it’s not bad. I think it’s good for the right golfer. Yeah. Right. this Amazon. Yeah. Wind just off the right 200 yard. Do you have four iron? Yeah, that’s a good shot. Just up the right hand side. Is the wind going to bring that back? Oh, yeah. Right side of the green. Flag high. Good shot. Not bad. Something to beat. I don’t think there’s much saving in that one, Christopher. No. Flag high just to the left. Tough shot. Hey, now I just a awful place to be. I’m going to hit the same club, I think. Right, I’ve got Amazon first. I’m going to hit the same for iron up the right side and hope the wind brings it back. The wind does move this, so if it stays right, I’ll be annoyed. I’ve never seen it, Chris. It’s a bullet on the right edge. Oh, seeing it. Ah, it’s on the dance floor again. It felt fantastic. Extremely low that. Yeah. Yeah, right. Kirkland. That felt good. And that is a higher launcher. Middle of the green. Oh, actually straight at the flag. Tremendous. I think you take it. Kirkland all day. So guys, distance there on this final hole. Both very, very similar. You can see two Amazon golf balls here. Both mine and Chris’s. They’ve stopped pretty well to be fair with long irons and my Kirkland ball which is the closer one and the better line that’s run out that little bit more. Guys, do us a favor. Get in the comments below which golf ball could you see yourself buying. Apart from that, I’ll see you all at the same time tomorrow. Goodbye.

I like how you lads always do more than one video for a new ball release. Gives us a better look at the ball and a good comparison against similar balls
Nice review comparing the new Amazon ball to 2 popular golf balls. I would definitely game the Amazon/Kirkland if those numbers you showed were consistent throughout a box. I wouldn't mind giving up 5 yards off a driver to save $50.00 CAD a box throughout the season.
I'm a 22H, first season playing golf. These Amazon balls could be my go to foy my 2nd season until I outgrow them later on.
Thanks for the review gents. I was surprised that the Driver spin numbers was highest with the Amazon. I’ve been seeing low spin numbers from other reviews, so it makes me wonder about the consistency?
I'll stick to the Kirklands 👍
Screw Amazon. Costco is such a better company. Would much rather support them.
I do love James and he is one of the best YouTubers of testing all aspects of golf products but all the little comments of oh this has gone miles oh I hit 5 iron there and the constant bigging yourself up there’s no need unless your carrying it 320 it’s not miles lool rant over love you James hahaha
Pro V1 user here BUT using Kirkland V3.5’s & Legato LTX3085’s as Winter balls! I’m now 66 and still give the ball a good slap so ProV1 still works for me but given I can get Wilson Triads for £55/24 and TM Tour Responses for £40/24 and they perform almost identically to the Titleist, at £50-ish for 12 according to MyGolfSpy and Golf Monthly, I think I may be changing when I run out!
And just to add can I buy your takomos soon I’m so jealous lol do you think graphite iron shafts are becoming more and more playable
So this is Amazons basic ball, I wonder if Amazon will develop a more premium ball. Perhaps that might compete more closely to a ProV1
If the Kirkland box that you showed in the beginning vs the Amazon box is the same one the balls came out of, it was an older version of the Kirkland ball. The new boxes with version 3.5 has a red stripe down the left side. Might have just been an old graphic, but worth noting as the newest version is much better.
19 handicapper here playing the Kirkland V3 balls. Love them. I also like the Taylor Made Tour Response but at double the money I stick mostly to the Kirkland.
Check your spelling on KIRKLAND on your graphics…..been playing the Yellow Kirkland…you don't think there is any difference between Yellow and White do you?
I've really liked my Callaway supersofts. They seem to be a pretty good ball for the money for my slower swing speed. Also, that's what i always get for Christmas, birthdays etc from wife, kids and grandkids so i have a bunch of them. I could lose a dozen a day for a week and still have supersofts. Lol.
Can't get Kirkland balls in Ireand so might try the Amazon. However, have been using Seed balls (Irish made) which are also.comparable to the Pro Vs also.for the last 6 months and am very pleased with them. If you buy in bulk, you get a great deal also. Have you ever tried the seed, maybe one to test??
I'll keep saying it. I don't get the hate. They're 1/2 price. I'm not playing them but why the hate? You know how popular the Callaway Supersoft is but find it garbage (my ss 112-114) BUT to each their own for slower swing it may be great. The price helps young kids get into golf, keeps retired fixed income playing etc. I'm like James I have a McLaren but that doesn't mean Kia shouldn't make cars! I couldn't afford my car when younger and won't had it when I retire. My point is why the hate? Everyone has a budget or such. As for the price $1 a ball ya can't beat it imo for the price if you need to save $
Kirkland are $1 wash? Thought they were $2 each aka double ?
Good lord that Amazon ball is horrendous
Interesting, but who's the certain golfer Chris
I have been playing golf for a couple of years on the weekend. I currently play with Callaway super soft, but at $1 a bal for Amazon sounds to be good to be true. I ordered 24 balls and will try the out this week. I believe I am the target audience for these balls.
2 years ago I was the only person in league playing the Kirkland ball. I have found that there are now several people playing the Kirkland ball and there isnt a single complaint about it.
I honestly think an inconsistent ball is really bad, because it can leave you wondering if you actually made a bad shot or was it the ball doing something funny. Also it looked like the temperature on the course was on the cold side which will make a low compression golf ball feel way softer than a normal compress ball.
FYI: The current Amazon ball and the Kirkland ball are both manufactured by SM Global, a Chinese company (Qingdao SM Parker). Earlier versions of Kirkland were made in South Korea.
Every other review shows iron length of basic long nit short. Your real life shows this. Wonder if your sim algorithm is odd. Foresight loves low spin yours might hate it?
Can I buy the Amazon at Costco? No? Never mind!
Great head to head video guy’s, I would take the Kirkland out of the two
I played a few holes with the Amazon ball and found it to be very acceptable, it felt good off the clubs and stopped well on the greens. I could see playing it on cold winter mornings and tight courses where lost balls are common. I think if you were to put a Titleist logo on it people's opinions would be very different. It's all perception with a lot of golfers.
the Amazon ball is surlyn for the same price as the urethane covered Kirkland, no brainer. The amazon ball would have to be half the price of the Kirkland to be a good deal.
Interesting comparison. It shows how much consistency and construction matter more than just price.
I bought 24 Kirklands. Really enjoying them. Especially at the end of the season. They are a little firmer and a little less spinney so are proving to be exceptional as the course gets wetter and slows down. Excellent video as ever Gentlemen.
$34.99/24 balls is not $1!!! Not sure how your math is working out
Why dont you do 18 holes with the clubs you review, that would be a great video
I think the Amazon ball actually performed better on the course than the Kirkland ball to be fair I think there both a good ball for the price
I have played the Kirklands, and there's not much notable difference on the course, but the money savings make them a great buy. For the average golfer, saving that kind of money makes sense in a sport where everything is so expensive today.
The only way to truly test golf balls is indoors with a robot machine.
They are made in the same factory (SM Global). Just one is more premium, one is more basic. Amazon basic. Play the Kirkland if you want the Pro V1 clone. Play the Amazon if you want to Callaway Supersoft clone. They are both good, different balls. They aren't really intended to be compared. It's just that simple.
The Kirkland is for higher swing speeds. The Amazon is for newer players and lower swing speed. You'll get around great with both though, just like you would get around great with either a ProV1 or Callaway Supersoft.
Just looking at thumbnail if you tested the silver stripe box Kirkland I’ll roast you so bad
I bought a box of these last week and played them over the weekend. They were AMAZING! I wanted to order more, but I can't find them on Amazon. Have you heard if they are out of stock or in trouble with another ball manufacturer?
Kirkland or kikrland? Im torn
You had the opposite spin numbers of other reviewers off the driver. Just saying, this is odd given 7 iron was the same as other reviewers.
